    I'm glad I stayed up

Should have just squibbed the kickoff and they'd be walking off the field winners now. The touchback was such a stupid thing to do.

Have to feel sorry for Allen if that's it.

**** way to lose it for the Bills

We just watched the two best teams in the playoffs.

Moral....never give mahomes and the chiefs a single second more than you absolutely have to.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,434 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

This is the long and short of it. You'd be sick if you were Allen and their whole offense really after that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,978 ✭✭✭standardg60

Bills thought they had it won, kicking the restart dead was a huge error.

    What a game though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Mahomes to Kelce is money. What a comeback and win! A fourth successive AFC Championship game at Arrowhead.

(And yes, the OT rules suck)

I thought they would have changed the OT rules for the playoffs after the Pats Chiefs.. They surely have to now. Allen should've had the chance there.

Some game tho.. I think that was genuinely one of the best games of sport I've ever seen.. Absolutely outrageous.

The QB stat lines for the game are insane, a shame they can never meet in the Super Bowl.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,778 ✭✭✭Big Pussy Bonpensiero

We just witnessed a QB battle for the ages.. 8 TD's, no picks, both lead their team in rushing and both came up with clutch TD's with the game on the line. Take a bow.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Mahomes threw for 177 yards after the two-minute warning 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,149 ✭✭✭amacca

There was a regular season rams vs chiefs or maybe 49ers game a couple of years back (pre covid when rams were in colliseum and goff was qb that was great craic too....chiefs had a couple of superbly entertaining high scoring games that year too

But as good as they were not quite as good as that......can only imagine the atmosphere if you were in that stadium

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,434 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

Ruined a bit by the overtime rule. Mahomes is as much a lock in that situation as there can be. They're saying on Sky to play out the period. Maybe reduce it to 10 or even 5 but one TD and go home is a bit bonkers tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,397 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

I believe that is 119 more than Aaron Rodgers threw in the entire 2nd half last night when he choked the game away.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,381 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

Shuda been a Chiefs vs Packers super bowl. Go Pack go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Rodgers should've done more of his own research on the 49ers defense.

Still on a high after winning from this position

It's unbelievable, my heart goes out to the Bills fans and what they went through.

    What a weekend for games.

I had picked the Titans, Packers and Chiefs to win, thought the Rams/Buccs was too close to call.

Cant think of another year where all 4 came down to last-play victories.

I think the Chiefs will definitely beat the Bengals, another high scoring game but not as close as the Bills came.

Rams/9ers will be interesting, Rams look the most complete team but the 9ers offence is built to slow down the pass rush of the Rams...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,221 ✭✭✭McFly85

Shame I couldn’t stay up to watch that! Watching the highlights this morning, it’s an instant classic. One of those games where you don’t want either team to lose.

Feels very harsh to be critical of anything but I’ll never understand why they didn’t squib at the end. Both games today felt like teams had it won with seconds left on the clock and strategy went out the window.

I wonder too if they’ll have another look at the OT format. I think it needs a game like today where it feels like an even harsher way to lose because it was so high quality. 5 min OT might be the way to go.

Anyway I think it’ll be a KC-niners SB with Mahomes picking up his second ring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

The interesting thing will be how the Chiefs weakened secondary handles Chase. Burrow showed in the last game that you can sack him multiple and he'll still beat you with the deep ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,012 ✭✭✭BizzyC

Yeah, I think there'll still be plenty of points there for Burrow, but I don't think the Bengals D will be able to contain the Chiefs as well and they'll be able to control the game more.

I'm not projecting a blowout by any means, I'm thinking around a 35-28 scoreline without any need for last minute theatrics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,381 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

Exactly as I predicted last night before the game, I said it was the Super Bowl and it certainly was. Only the Packers could have had a chance to beat the winners of Chiefs/Bills. Go Pack Go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,518 ✭✭✭✭ArmaniJeanss

The fear for the NFL is if both teams get a possession, both get a touchdown, then we are potentially into never-ending OT.

How about if Team A scores a touchdown in 2 min 12 seconds, that Team B gets the ball with 2.11 on the clock? If Team B score a touchdown they win, otherwise Team A wins. Kinda like 'quickest touchdown wins' with a 1 second advantage for Team A to avoid the chance of a tie, though Team B has the advantage of knowing exactly what they have to do. The same timing to apply if Team A has to settle for a field-goal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

The OT rule comes up all the time. The Chiefs (Clark Hunt) pushed for it to be changed when they lost the AFC Championship game to the Patriots three years ago. The motion was voted down by the other owners, what a shame now!

I was thinking along the lines of essentially TD sudden death but teams have to go for a 2 point conversion if they score.

But you’re probably closer to the solution, I assume a priority is to have the game settled as quickly as possible otherwise it would be havoc for the networks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,434 ✭✭✭✭Liam O

Very American idea to only give one team a chance to decide a game I guess.

Unsure about havoc to the networks. Big drop off for them as soon as a game ends. Make it only for playoff games too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,714 ✭✭✭Nermal

Couldn't the decision about who takes possession first in OT be made dependent on the initial coin toss? Then at least you'd know coming up to the end of regular time, and might adjust your strategy. Feels like it would take away some of the unfairness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

The college football overtime system is way better. Each team gets the ball at the 25 yard line. If they both score the same then it goes to a second overtime where you must attempt a two point conversion if you score a touchdown. If both teams score the same in that period then it goes to two point conversions only, just one play to get it.

That keeps going until one team scores and one team doesn't.

Do we really want a team that puts up 10 points in a huge playoff game in the superbowl?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

They weren't in a huge playoff game, it was the divisional round.

Or couldn't it be based on some metric from the actual game with the criteria known in advance?

How is the divisional round not a huge playoff game?

  • Registered Users Posts: 157 ✭✭Optimus Caesar

Only 2-2 this weekend but I don't care. Rams move on.

    8-2 for playoffs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,384 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

Stop me if you’ve heard this one but I stayed up and kept watching past when I said I wasn’t. I got to the sometime in the fourth quarter before I fell asleep. Some bloody game it was and you’d have to feel for the bills. The NFL must be over the moon with how the games went, even if the niners and packers wasn’t as good as the other three.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,722 ✭✭✭✭Weepsie

I would be very much a casual fan, don't have a team, tend to root for the underdog or the team I dislike least. Recorded the second game and watch it skipping ads and such. Condense those final few mins and show it to people and they'll all be watching

WOW what a weekend of games, and they saved the best until last, incredible stuff. An Offensive & in particular a QB masterclass by Mahomes & Allen, I think the Chiefs have just that bit more fire-power with Mahomes\Hill & Kelse.

I think it'll be a Chiefs/Rams SB, & wouldn't be surprised if the Rams came out on top, I think they are a better more complete team, offence & Defence.

Having said that it'll take some effort to beat Mahomes & Co. in their current form.

The college system is flawed as well - I have seen OT games go on in college for 10+ possessions until you get a winner and the way the scoring was going last night neither defense was stopping anyone late on.

At the end of a 17 game season to ask Pro Players to go out and do this would be a hard ask. The winner would be in no fit shape to play a game the next week let alone a conference championship against a team who might have an extra days rest.

I don't think there is a better way to decide OT - Its a team game , the Bills Defense had a chance to close out the game with 13 seconds left and didn't take it so you are left to the lottery of the OT coin toss. I feel sorry for them but the same happened to the chiefs and they rebounded to win a super bowl - I hope that we are able to say the same for the Bills next year as they are one of the top teams in the AFC and well built to carry that on.

In what is supposed to be a very fair game, what with the way the draft system works and a different winner pretty much every year, it does seem strange they go with a coin toss and if you score that's it.

Try something different. Start at the halfway. Only 3 downs, fewer players on field.

Can't really complain about the outcome, but it would've been a great advert for a fresh approach to overtime the way they were playing.

They've added an extra game to a season, I think if it meant a chance of a superbowl, then a player would say yeah, I'll do it.

0-4 which isn’t great at all. So 5-5 for the playoffs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,156 ✭✭✭✭Foxtrol

2-2 this week so 8-2 in the playoffs.

By far the best weekend of playoff football I can remember - it had it all

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,381 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

As great as last nights game was, it didn’t top super bowl from few years ago when Brady led a Pats comeback vs the Falcons. That display from Brady was one of the greatest sporting performances I have ever seen.

  • Registered Users Posts: 320 ✭✭collybyrne

0-4 takes me to 4-6 for the playoffs. Doesn't get much more wrong than that!

Disappointing but not surprising to see the Packers go out like that. Really taints Rodgers legacy to see this happening so often. Titans Bengals was pretty old school in the way the defences dominated and was one of those games where you really couldn't pick between them but someone had to win. Glad to see Burrow make it to a Championship game though and hope they can at least put in a good showing. Don't give them a hope against the Chiefs though.

The NFC game should be closer based on previous results but the Rams really looked to be hitting some form before the meltdown at the end of the game. That pass rush is out of this world and OBJ is just starting to do enough to take some of the heat off Kupp who was lethal anyway.

Like everyone else I think it'll be Rams Chiefs in the big one and I can't call it. Rams D vs Chiefs O and right now it's a toin coss for me.

I predicted I'd go 0-4 and I was right :D. No shame in it considering the winning margins were edge of a razor.

Gotta feel for the Bills. Play any other team of the weekend and they blow them away but the Chiefs and Mahomes just will not go away. Hard to see them stopped on that form. Bengals certainly won't. Rams have the best chance as they're more rounded than the 49ers but they could very well lose to the 49ers next week.

I dont know whether I was more impressed with Allen or Mahomes but they've brought QB play to s level not seen before. Insane versatility in both their games.

Did you read what I wrote?

I'm thinking by your comments that you are talking about the old playoff system. They changed it last year and it's much better.
