Hi not sure if right section, please move if incorrect.!

I bought a car from a second hand dealer in Oct and he said he would transfer the details to myself.

I have contacted him a number of times and he said he just forgot to do it and will get to it today. I'm still waiting.

Motor tax is now out of date since November end and I'm struggling to find out how I can do this myself.

I keep getting cut of ringing the dept of transport and emails are being ignored.

Anyone now the actual process that I can take to fix the issue.

I think the only person who can get the duplicate is the registered owner... send them a message that you were caught for speeding and that he may be getting a letter...

Have a look on motortax.ie to see transaction history of the vehicle and when sale was notified and new certificate issued.

I think if a person with the car went to the Gardai to have the replacement form signed there may be action... i also think if the seller knew this was about to happen they may find the form and process...

I looked at the site but it only goes back 3 months so limited info....

Thanks all looks like the only solution I have is to go to the garda station and see what they can do.

Out of curiosity, how this story has ended?

Still not sorted, I got it taxed, but it's not registered in my name. Still waiting on dealer to sort out their end.

How did you get it taxed... is it taxed in your name.... if yes give your local office a call and they will advise...

The dealer made a call to Shannon, they gave the pin code to allow it to be taxed.

I have paid the tax but it is still not in my name,

We need the original VRC to be able to transfer it into dealers name and then mine, there is an address error on previous owner which they need to fix. The previous owner never had the VRC due to this issue also

Sounds like you need to take matters into your own hands at this stage.... That whole address thing from the previous owner sounds like malarkey to me, how did they ever tax it before you came to own the car? Also, if you paid the tax on the car, did the tax office send you the disc? Taxing the car online would have revealed the address to which the car is currently registered surely.

In any case, there is a process involving a Commissioner for Oaths and filling in a form to be sent off to Shannon declaring you are the new owner of the vehicle. You will need to talk to the Motor Tax office to get this form apparently. Here is a link I found: How to change the ownership of a vehicle (mayo.ie) Check the "Procedures to follow where documents to complete a change of ownership are not available" FAQ for details.

This is strange as it is certainly registered... go to https://www.ncts.ie/ ... type in your number and see... i know its nct but if its there you have a good starting point..

    something funny me thinks...

Thanks Miscreant, that mayo link is exactly what I need, I will get onto Shannon in the morning
