Does that mean that anyone who meets the eligibility criteria and sits the aptitude test is put forward for interview ? Or is it possible to score too low in the testing and not get an interview ?

Applicants need to pass the aptitude test to be called forward to the next stage.

I know last year it was the application form, then aptitude, then interivew and then panel placement.

I would assume if you score too low on the aptitude you will not progress.

I found career services very good for practicing for the aptitude but not great for interivew prep.

Hi guys, any tips for preparation before the next recruitment drive ? I have the C1 and meet education requirements atm just want to make sure I give myself the best chance !

If you have the C1 and minimum education and have completed the application correctly you will be called to do an aptitude test.

I would recommend getting some aptitude test prep done; if you fail this step you don't get called for interview!

  • Registered Users Posts: 133 ✭✭Shau_98

Did everyone else get the Garda vetting? Haven't recieved mine yet. My medical isn't tilll next Thursday so I've no clue @Medt123

Blood test, tetnus shot if you haven't had one in the past 10 years, height/ weight measurements. Standard health questionnaire, hearing and vision test and I think they make you do a step test if your BMI is over a certain level.

That's what I had to do at medmark in Dublin anyway.

Student paramedic campaign for 2022 is being advertised on publicjobs.ie...

Half thinking of applying for it...

  • Registered Users Posts: 7 Shannrnsss

Hi, so I'm pretty lete to the game with the current recruitment campaign. I know it ends in the next week. I have a couple of q's and I'm hoping someone can help :)

First does anyone know how frequent student paramedic recruitment campaigns are? After this 1 closes how soon till one runs again?

I am currently a grade 4 and on year 2 of the salary scale for my grade. If I was accepted as a student paramedic would I go back to the bottom of the student paramedic scale? Or would my current standing on the salary scale stand to me, I know if you go up a grade you will never go to a salary lower then what u are currently on. So would I got to half way on the student paramedic scale?

Also how does shift allowance work? Fo you get for example, €50 per shift you work? Or and extra €3 an hour?

Last question I promise. Are you placed in the same station for the 2 years of placement? Could the be in Dublin, or do the Dublin fire brigade not recruit from the Nás? As firefighters are also trained as paramedics?

Any help would be much appreciated!!

In the job 6 years, hope I can be of some help.

At present, you may know we are extremely short of staff. There will be rolling recruitment campaigns regularly for the foreseeable future. There are approximately 90 people on a panel at present waiting to start. There were plans to take in approximately 90 students in January in Ballinasloe, Tallaght, and the new college in Tullamore. Only 19 people expressed an interest in starting. As a result, they tried to consolidate the 3 classes into Tullamore and only 7 have now expressed an interest - out of a planned 90. The Dubs don't like leaving the Pale 😉

The average take-home pay at the start when in the college is about €860 a fortnight. When you are on placement in your first year (hospital or ambulance placement) there is a tax-free training allowance of €235 per week paid on top of your regular wage. You will start getting your shift allowance in year 2 when you start your internship. That's about €220 a fortnight (taxed). An average starting take-home pay in year 1 (if single) is about €1,200 (including shift, not including Sundays). Obviously, it increases if you get Sundays (often rare on internship depending where you are as staff often don't take Sundays off) and there are endless opportunities to do OT. Anyone in my class who was already in the HSE went to the bottom of the pay scale but you could try and make a case if and when you qualified.

As for station placement, in year 1 as a third person, you are generally kept fairly close to your home address unless you ask for elsewhere. However, for the internship, you can initially be deployed anywhere in the country for some time. Often not coming back closer to home until a new class leaves the college for their internship. Most areas now have "hubs" so for Kildare/Wicklow you could rotate between Naas, Athy, Baltinglass, etc. The longer you are in the more structure but permanent rostered lines can be difficult to get. For example, the average waiting time for a permanent rostered line in Cork City is about 11 years, whereas Castletownbere has traditionally been quite quick.

Have a good think about the job, it can be very rewarding but the distances travelling to calls and waiting in the ED can be tough on the mind and body. If you are quite happy knowing all this, I wish you the very best of luck 😊

  • Registered Users Posts: 7 Shannrnsss

    Thank you for writing back.

Aside from the money I guess the wait time for a permanent placement is worrying. 11 years is madness, so you could be constantly replaced in that time? Crazy if you are looking to buy a house..

Are paramedics placed in Dublin or is that solely the DFB?

Disappointing numbers with the recruitment campaign. What do you think needs to improve to attract more?

Also would taking medication for your mental health be "frowned upon"?

    Hello all

Can anyone shed light on leaving during or just after training if it isn't for you? Lots of info in this threads and previous. Obviously you can research and research but you wont know 'til you go. Have heard with new degree programme you're 'on the hook' for longer and owe more years service. Can anyone comment on the possibility of leaving during training or the chance of a big bill if leaving shortly after training completion? I can't imagine it's a job you'll be able to stay in if you're not happy there, cheers!

Hi all, has anyone heard back about dates of assessment for the current recruitment ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

No not yet should be in the coming week from 10th of January

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

How did the aptitude testing go for everyone ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7 e2410

Just finished mine - really unsure of how it went. Didn’t get much more than half of the reading one done. What did everyone else think ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

Same , just over half in the verbal reasoning also found the patterns in the analytical reasoning to be very tricky just over half done too , hopefully enough for an interview

  • Registered Users Posts: 7 e2410

Agreed. The analytical had a one or two in it alright towards the end that I just hadn’t a clue of ! It’s surely not common to finish the verbal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 792 ✭✭✭rustynutz

How do you apply to do the aptitude test?

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

Definitely not uncommon don’t know of anyone that has finished it

Should have a link sent to you through email from HBS recruitment

Has anyone had any luck with NDLS getting the statement of entitlement ?

what was that method of success if you did ?😂

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

You will need to contact NDLS at 0818 700 800 or email info@ndls.ie. You must provide your full name, driver number, PPSN, date of birth and whether you would like to receive your document by post or email.

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 Comot73

Did all that in November, and again at start of January. Ignored twice bar an automated email. Had to ring RSA to get it done yesterday

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

Will you have it back in time for the eligibility sift ? I just got confirmation today my documents were received

  • Registered Users Posts: 7 e2410

I’m the same got mine in today before they change their mind !!

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 Comot73

They said 3 working days early on Monday morning, and ring back today if I didn’t get it. From 11 till 5pm today the phone line wouldn’t accept calls because it was too busy, got in the queue at 5oclock today , waited 50 mins on the phone and the line went dead 🙈😂

This is after emails being ignored in November and January 🤣

Tomorrow is D day it looks like

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

Have you spoken to HBS recruitment about this ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 32 Comot73

Yeh had to spill the beans today…..they said they can take a note of it and see when I get it. It was emailed out by ndls at 11:17 today and didn’t land in My inbox until 15:40 😂

just got it in next day delivery by the skin of my teeth

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

Anybody any idea how many people are up for interviews ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 MichaelTheMon

Hey everyone. Passed my aptitude test and awaiting word back from document sift. does this step generally take long? closing date was Friday Jan. 28th 2022. any help would be great!

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

Honestly no idea I’m in the same boat as yourself but I’d imagine it would have to be soon enough interviews are scheduled for the first week of March provisionally so they’d want to get in gear to be prepared for that

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

Anyone hear anything about interviews yet ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 Burges95

Got an email yesterday about interviews should be starting from 28th February 👌

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

Likewise , anyone any idea how many are up for interview ? Can’t imagine it can be many there’s were only 450 that applied for this campaign and the aptitude testing surely knocked off a few

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 MichaelTheMon

Hey everyone! Just wondering did you's all have your interviews yet? Had mines on Tuesday past there. Hopefully be soon when we get word of results etc.

  • Registered Users Posts: 34 Fiatlegend

Ya had my interview on Monday ! They were very nice just no idea how I did , heard the wait time is about 10 days and results are issued by post

  • Registered Users Posts: 14 MichaelTheMon

Ah great stuff. I'm sure you did well. Hopefully we won't be waiting too long!

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 Burges95
