Was fairly even for 20 mins or so but they went 35 - 7 up with 10 to go.

They all played really well. Few mistakes across the board but loads of potential for sure. McCormick went off at HT but looked good until then. McKay was 6/6 conversions. McNabney finished a nice try and carried well. Lamont never takes a backward step.

Any noticeable absences? Postlethwaite wasn't with the sevens either so I assume he's injured. Carson is another Ulster academy player who missed out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

    Carson and Postlethwaite from Ulster.

Edwin Edogbo(Lock) from Munster - injury.

    Dylan Murphy(Munster/Hooker), Ben Popplewell(Leinster/LH Prop), Karl Martin(Montpellier/Centre)

A munster center you don't see thay to often good stuff. Two jack o sullivans for munster will be co fusing if he makes it

Of the backs I know by reputation they seem fairly exciting how is the pack likely to hold up vs presumably big english/french packs again?

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

I dunno about the pack.. 1st choice is strong, depth is a worry.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,323 ✭✭✭✭phog

No Ulster back in squad - not a criticism just an observation

    Devine ahead of Coughlin? Interesting!

Morrissey is very light for a 2nd row. He was listed at 92 kgs last year, hopefully there's a little more meat on him this year.

I've seen Campbell with Munster. He looked quality. I suppose he will make the Munster academy. Are there any real standout players in this group?

  • Registered Users Posts: 116 ✭✭Juventu4

What size is Conor O'Tighearnaigh? As Morrissey looked a little light last year when we faced the typical big English and French packs.

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

not sure exact stats but he is at least 6'6, 110.

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭alanb92

From what I have seen, Jack Boyle is a huge prospect. I can see him being fast tracked for Leinster & Ireland over the next 2-3 years given the dearth of loosehead talent at the minute. Tector was brilliant at schools level - really good running game and a quality pass off both sides. ROG name checked him on OTB last year when discussing up and coming 10's in the country, so it says a lot that he was on his radar when only at u19 level.

King also looks promising from what I have seen, bit of a unit of a winger for his age. I liked what I saw of Crothers when he featured for the 20's last summer as well, seemingly an old school 7 in style.

  • Registered Users Posts: 69 ✭✭alanb92

I should also mention McNabney. From what I heard, he was really impressive in the interpros. Seems to be a big ball carrier.

McNabney and Crothers the exciting prospects amongst the BR?

    James McNabney (Ballymena RFC/Ulster) - u19

    Jack O’Sullivan (UCC RFC/Munster)

    Reuben Crothers (Ballynahinch RFC/Ulster)(Captain)

    James Culhane (UCD RFC/Leinster)

    Conor Moloney (Young Munster RFC/Munster)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,106 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Great to see the Ennis 3 involved. They were part of a real class Ennis side all through the age groups

Shame Dylan Murphy not picked. must have been close to final selection for squad

Shane Mallon will be class act this level having seen him play a lot at schools level

If anybody hasn’t seen James McNabney, just watch the first few seconds of this to see what he’s all about.
