It's not significant as it's a once off payment. So much joy for such a small amount. Think of poor - for them it's just some bonus but there is no long term solution with it. This amount of money could have been used to pay for poor people only. That could have been a few times larger amount, let say, 100 Euro for 4-5 continues months! The fact nobody was opposing shows it's a populist decision. Populists don't like to oppose the ideas which are already in public and would be popular. This is exactly what being populist is - irrational, short term, often throwing the money without an actual advantage. It's a quick way to show 'they care' without a strategy and medium or long term result. This isn't even a short term result as it's just a once off payment. No use of it. Image to invest this money to health, education. There are so many things to improve in Ireland what they should focus to.

A large number of people here are incapable of having an adult conversation- says the fella who's previous post said someone will be along to blame the immigrants for inflation!

Paddy votes for whoever promises them the most free stuff! No matter if they end up skyping their kids in Oz, etc as a result.

I thought governments were meant to cut spending when the economy begins to overheat, that's not possible in Ireland as there's always an election to be bought!

You can't stop booms and busts. It's just the nature of economics.

Next bust is gonna be a big one because it's been propped up by money printing and low interest rates for too long.

Inflation is caused by rising costs energy prices supply chain issues shortage of products these are all out of government control there's nothing they can do. Company's increase prices as costs rise. Taxs pay for schools hospitals civil servants wages I d ont think there's any point in reducing taxs Ireland is a small country we can't reduce inflation we depend on exports and tourism.

There's not much that we can do with energy inflation, it's mostly imported. What the ECB could do is to stop Quantative Easing and start giving a positive return on savings. That might help with asset (House) price inflation.

I agree this next one has potential to be devastating as we are still in a pandemic and if a new strain is to emerge that evades vaccines and the world has to go into lockdown again, how will governments pay PUP when broke?

These are unprecedented times with alot of moving parts here but the federal reserve are raising Interest rates this year and it will be more than once they reckon so the squeeze has started no question just how it unfolds will be incredibly hard to predict.
