The angry people all went to the pub, and the rest just got tired of reading the same things posted over and over again?

Its the question the hardliners can never answer. When will socialising be acceptable to them? Jab 4? 5?

That along with this bizarre notion that its the one's socialising who are being selfish, not the restrictors. Everyone is acting in their own self-interest.

You should see that ilk on Twitter, especially that Deepti yoke and her cult followers . Claiming you can get Omicron over and over and over and over again and claiming that we’ll never get immunity built up with this virus etc. They clearly want society shut down permanently. Sad pathetic ***ks.

I’d rather take my chances with this virus rather than having just an existence of a life, i’m triple jabbed ffs.. If you’re scared of Covid well stay home and bolt your doors up and make a hatch so food can be passed through.

It's very difficult and when I can't just move out as a solution to it, then what is the easy option? Ok yes I could just ignore them to an extent and socialize and be done with it, and thats likely the solution, but it turns into a battle everytime I want to go and do something. They are just at that age when they are turning into old people, sadly. I've told them many times that with Omicron on the down we are as safe as we are going to be, until the inevitable panic when the next variant causes a global panic and travel restrictions whether it is dangerous or not. And they accept that, until the reality comes that I want to go out and mix with people. And in a nightclub of all places!!! "People don't NEED nightclubs, we didn't have them in our day". And there follows a story of them digging the allotment on a Saturday afternoon when they were teenagers.

I put the blame for this pretty much squarely at RTE, they have panicked them half to death with their constant extreme fear mongering. And I'm sure plenty of old people are the same. It's just that I have to live with mine!!! Yes I am nearly 40 and unmarried with 0 prospects there, but that's where life has brought me and I'm being steered inexorably into a caring role so at least have to keep them in mind.

Good point, "how did they exist before covid"? That's a question I ask myself when I see the terror (even following triple vaccination) in not just my parents but friends (healthy, mid 40s). Do they plan to fear the outside world forever; do they think we can sterilise every surface, shop, and even person?

As mentioned on this thread, the relentless bombardment of shock and awe by the primary sources of news (TV and radio) over a two year period, this psychological assault, relentless and unbalanced, has led to such fear.

    In the papers today:

RTE are applying for the "JTI" journalism trust initiative "mark".

Jon Willimans managing director of news and current affairs at RTE, said "I couldn't have been prouder of what RTE has done during the pandemic, and the way to showcase that is to get someone independent to take a look".

With their fair and unhysterial coverage of Covid, sure they will be a breeze in.

I own a thermometer but before covid it was only really used at times of illness or sickness or colds or when I or my family didn't feel well. So about once or twice a year.

Due to the covid pandemic, my work had my checking my temperature several times a day from the spring of 2020. All just to minimise covid in the workplace. I found something due to the constant temperature monitoring that I probably would have missed if it wasn't for the covid measures. I began to experience unexplained fevers over 38 from the summer of 2020. It happened about once every month or two. Because of covid I always had to isolate and test. The fever wound respond well to over the counter medicine and it would drop again to normal which was about 36.6 to 37.5. It was only last year when I went to the GP because I knew something was wrong but I didn't know what. Fevers spiking out of the blue. I had other vague symptoms but I put it down to period pains. My GP was on the ball and referred me for some tests. I was diagnosed with a disease that will be managed going forward. I feel somewhat lucky because I don't think this would be found if it wasn't for the covid measures. I would be walking around unaware and mistaking pains for PMS. Unmanaged and this would have landed me into hospital in an emergency situation at some stage.

Good to hear something positive came out of all this! Hope it can be managed easily.

Has a whiff of whistling in the dark to me. Get your retaliation in first kinda thing. Cos you know questions will be asked and soon enough too.

Maybe thats just wishful thinking on my part but I don think so.

  • Registered Users Posts: 474 ✭✭glitterIsland

It's mad. I never would have found it if it wasn't for the daily temp checks and it would have thrown me into some deep shlt in A+E some day.

I'm sure in a month or two when it's been clear for a while that the current variant of covid isn't a concern - as opposed to immediately upon reopening due to swathes of the workforce being infected - they'll feel more comfortable.

And I know you've been saying throughout (when nothing was known, when there were no vaccines, and when the variants were more dangerous) that someone going to a gig is worth slightly increasing someone else's risk of dying, but not everyone is as progressive or invulnerable as you.

For all but the die hards on here, clinging on to their outrage for dear life.

I've had a quick glance through the thread and I sorta keep up with it.... I don't really see "die hards" left here for ages.

There's loopers like Olive (80 post engagagements on twitter on a Sunday whilst parenting 2 kids!) or the other fnckwit Architect bint going nuts.

But on the whole, Boards.ie has been reasonable. No?

So who are these die hards on this thread ? I find this thread pretty reasonable to be fair

How is your own level of risk these days Ficheall? Are you glad that society has reopened?

"Another 5,109 PCR test-confirmed cases of coronavirus were reported in the Republic of Ireland on Friday,

Another 4,482 antigen test-confirmed cases of coronavirus were reported in the Republic of Ireland on Friday,

There were 649 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals in the Republic of Ireland on Friday,

There were 66 patients with Covid-19 in hospital intensive care units "

that's right lads it`s over,..... nothing to see here, move along....

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,651 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

Its clear to anyone paying attention that it isn't a concern. What more do you expect us to know in a month or two? Even our super conservative NPHET recognise it. This is where you lose people, there is no logic to what you are saying. You have added on an arbitrary month or two with no basis whatsoever

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭Ficheall

How is it ever "illogical" in such a situation to suggest more data leads to a more informed decision?

As the oft-repeated mantra on here goes, the data so far suggests it is a disease of the elderly and unwell - you can forgive the elderly and unwell for being more cautious than those who weren't in much danger before and are in even less danger now..

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,651 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

I never said it would lead to a less informed decision. However, despite some seemingly thinking otherwise, there is a cost to waiting, to wanting others to wait with you. This is all fine in a vacuum, but these people clearly want others restricted due to their concerns. How long should we pander to that?

The data on Omicron is abundantly clear, what is going to change to inform their decision in the next two months? They certainly won't be any more vaccinated.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭Ficheall

So the prevailing boards wisdom is no longer for the elderly/vulnerable/afraid to cocoon themselves at home, so that everyone else can get on with their lives unencumbered? Is that now acknowledged as unfeasible?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,631 ✭✭✭CalamariFritti

I don't know the answer to that, but I'm defo not spokesperson for the prevailing boards opinion. Also not sure I'm reading the question right.

Elderly who still wish to cocoon can still do so?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,651 ✭✭✭✭AdamD

Apparently because I posted 3 times I now represent the prevailing boards opinion, as it suits his argument.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,034 ✭✭✭Ficheall

Don't let your head get too big there, Adam. Many posters have said throughout that the elderly/unwell/concerned should mind their own business and let others go about their business as usual.

Is Delta still around? Our whole house tested positive in October besides our teenage daughter. She has now tested positive since Wednesday but we are all still negative even on PCR. Is it possible she has Delta because we were all around her loads in the days before/ of the positive test? Just want to see if we might be out of the woods. Thanks
