This thread topic was inspired by a YouTuber who uploaded a range of videos about special editions of the nintedo gamecuve and microsoft x box 1 among others.

I owned a Nintendo DS 3D XL Final Fantasy edition in 2013. Sorry, no pictures, I gave it away.

Relevant Consoles were made by SONY, Microsoft, Nintendo.

I'd a few special edition Zelda 3DS XL's, the Windwaker Gamecube (which was just a platinum one really), a God of War white PS3....i used to enjoy having them but the novelty of special edition consoles wore off me. Nowadays I enjoy the look of a minty clean stock console more than any other.

    Does this count?

Don't think I've had any really. Think I have a few special 360s knocking around somewhere is all.

I've a few special edition or weird variants of consoles. But the most recent (and I still enjoy looking at it) is the Sakura Edition Japanese PS2.

I actually don't think I own a single special edition console at all come to think of it, was never really into them. Have owned loads of weird and wonderful consoles but they've all been in their stock standard form.

Saying that, those Sakura PS2s are gorgeous!

I’ve a princess peach 3DS I won off Club Nintendo , think they only made a few hundred of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,865 ✭✭✭geotrig

same as o1s1n never was interested in any "special edition" consoles 3ds doesnt count as there probably wasn't even a std edition one !😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 745 ✭✭✭barryribs

I've got the Windwaker WiiU, the Ocarina 3DS and the SNES 3DS XL.

Like some others have said, I prefer a good stock looking console now.

The Snes 3DSXL was always on my list, always thought that was very tastefully done.

I also at one point had a Famicom GBA Micro that I was very fond of, totally forgot about that. Really regret selling it now, was such a great little console to just fling in your bag with a flash cart.

  • Registered Users Posts: 701 ✭✭✭Confused11811

Not a special edition but I've an Original Xbox with full xecuter mod not unlike the the one pictured. I've a 3TB drive (2.2 TB can be used) and adapters ready to install in it. Have it stored away a few years now waiting for a day when I can get it fully restored and running.

I've about 1O OG Xboxs including a rare green crystal edition and 4 green crystal edition controllers. All with mod chips (some of the chips are very rare now) or TSOP bios flashed or both. Each with 500GB IDE hard drives which where new old stock hard drive which I got my hands on a few years back.

I've a boxed Tribal SP actually, bought from new by me in Smyths. Forgot about that. Also a crystal Xbox, also bought from new by me....both very common however.

I had an even rarer GB Micro, it was also modelled after the Famicom but its faceplate was to look like controller II.

Also, it was not branded Nintendo, but iQue, so it was made for the Chinese market.

I sold it onto Monkeyfudge, formerly of this parish.

These special edition consoles come out so late and I'm usually an early adopter that I'm too early to get them. I do have a crystal xbox but pretty sure they are hardly rare.

Its the colour of the buttons more so than than anything else. It looks great but I still find it too small.

I had a yellow Pokemon Gameboy back in the day...not sure if it was that limited tbh...

  • Registered Users Posts: 321 ✭✭Mucashinto

This is legendary, hard to take your eyes off it. I wish I had the commitment to do something like this when I was younger instead of keeping it clean as possible for resale value like a coward.

Football sticker is not needed though - not a comment on the team, just no need for the outside partisanship when the rest is such a pure & true love of all things SEGA.

Kudos to "Ger", think he's figured this whole life game out tbh.

Might start using 'Friend of Sonic' as a cryptic euphemism...

I had stickers all over my PS1 back in the day, which I very quickly removed when I got into collecting old consoles - kind of wish I'd left them on now!

I tippexed the Megadrive in the house thinking it'd look banging in white. Wasn't left to my own devices much after that, funny enough.

I took the man U sticker off actually. The rest stays where it is.

A friend of sonic is definitely one to put on the cv

    SHARPER THAN A CYBER-RAZOR CUT!

Not sure what that means but I love it.

Some Megadrive fan you are. Do you not remember the Sega advert with that slogan? Pretty sure it featured a load of images of garbage in ROM form Greendog.

    Edit: Found it

Unfortunately the shock of the Sega forum closing lead me to down a dark road - at my lowest point, the depths of my depravity, I even ended up collecting games for the Jaguar and 3DO.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

I am very very disappointed. If the Sega forum was still here you'd really be in for it!

Funny fact, the guy in those ads was in the Highlander series for years as a pretty main cast member

The other guy is Steven O'Donnell, aka Spudgun in Bottom

    I've a Pokemon Stadium Battle Set N64.

I also have a Pokemon Pickachu N64 Ltd edition, a funtastic Grape Purple N64, a funtastic Fire Orange N64, a funtastic Ice Blue N64 and a White Red N64 console. There are still 12 Limited variations that I'm hunting for.

I just see the dude from Stargate SG-1, Tanit or something like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

I didn't even cop that. Didn't recognize him at all.

That's him too. I never watched SG-1. I was still young when it was on and seeing a big budget film now on a 90s TV budget was a big no no for me!

Plus Kurt Russel was and still is my favourite actor having him not in it really made me hate it on sight 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,905 ✭✭✭Steve X2

Ah, SG-1 was prime watching for me at like 11pm-12am in the late 90's(97/98) on RTE 2, or probably called Network 2 at the time. I'd be just home from working in the local hotel(part time while at school, so only 30-40 hours a week 🙂) and it'd be on. Good times indeed.

Is it just me or was there always scifi on TV somewhere in the 90s? I remember watching TNG daily on Sky 1 at about 6 or 7pm, either before or after The Simpsons.

I think Quantum Leap was on before The Simpsons at one point too. Fairly sure SG1 was on in similar daily rotation.

  • Uh a few.. haha.

Pikachu N64, Pikachu Gameboy Colour, Pikachu 3DS, Pikachu n Eevee Switch (that’s the Mrs)

Red PS3 (and soon white), MGSV PS4

    Crystal Xbox

Same here, there was a set of shows on Network 2 at the time, I'd watch the likes of this, Earth: Final Conflict and Nowhere Man, I think a reboot of The Twilight Zone might have been on at that time too.

I think that might have been a reboot of The Outer Limits? Really loved that.

Do you remember a short lived show called Earth 2?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

Watched all them myself , SG1 is a great show one of my favourites. Earth two I think only lasted a season. I think Sky used to show say Quantum leap at 5 in the evening then the same ep again at 11 at night. They would do this for the entire run of a sci-fi show like that then switch to SG1 or the next gen and do the same thing showing the same ep twice a day for its full run. V at one stage as well i think.

The outer limits was brilliant too. I remember watching other shows then on Sundays like “The pretender “ or Earth final conflict , which was brutal but there wasn’t much choice back then !

I seem to remember RTE running two episodes of TNG together as we were so far behind the US

Spookily weird. I refered to Denise Crosbireb in one of my comments on Facebook today - Tasha Yar in startrek TNG

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

The new twilight zone was on then too. I used to watch it about 11pm on my 14 inch tv, when I was still in school, with the volume low so wouldn't wake up the rest of the house. Forest Whitaker was the presenter I'm pretty sure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,803 ✭✭✭Inviere

He was, I remember it well. It may even be sitting on my Emby server too actually, along with many other 90s greats. SG1 was (still is) an epic show. It got the 1080p treatment there relatively recently, looks great.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 34,665 CMod ✭✭✭✭CiDeRmAn

I was thinking of that one myself!

As with you, I would watch this stuff with the volume low, in my case so I wouldn't wake my wife!

It was like a secret little treasure, no one else I knew was watching these shows and, as they were on late, it was just me, the tv and snacks.

Dark Skies was another one, pretty great show, kind of X-Files vibe and set in the 60's, with a great cast.

I have the odd shaped Pikachu N64 with two matching controllers boxed with Pokemon Stadium. Not mega rare but not something you see every day, a completely different shaped console not just a colour change.

Have quite a few SNES boxed variants too, green allstars, yellow allstars, Mario world (two types), super soccer, FIFA variant, a few hole in the box variant, Scope variant, starwing variant, street fighter 2 turbo variant, a few double paks, a few with just the console and a few super Famicom variants I can't remember what was bundled. All complete in boxes, definitely leaving some out.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 5,393 Mod ✭✭✭✭Optimus Prime

1080p Stargate? Now i have to watch it all again. No choice.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,773 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Are you talking about the Pokemon Battle Set?

    Or the Pickachu edition?

Because the Battle Set is the normal shaped N64 and I haven't heard of any Pickachu edition coming with Pokemon Stadium. Is it not a PAL console by any chance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,542 ✭✭✭✭MEGA BRO WOLF 5000

I had to check there. It's the second one you posted, it's just got a sticker on it saying stadium is included, probably a smyths toys or toys r us thing. I've the separate box for stadium with some memory pak included.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,803 ✭✭✭Inviere

    Enjoy....

Edit - it could be a 720p upscale, can't remember exactly....but it blows the previous dvd quality away regardless.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,773 ✭✭✭✭machiavellianme

Phew, I was worried that there was another variant that I need to track down.
