So Galway are not allowed to use it for home games?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,863 ✭✭✭Happyilylost

They could. Galway could nominate Timbuktu as their home venue. But you know... convenience for fans... support for local business.... preparation for players... and you know.... IT'S IN MAYO!

Can't believe that your being serious about playing our league games in the dome. Great facility but it's a glorified basketball court and matches played there will do nothing in preparing us for Connacht championship Ina few months which will more than likely be played in the wind and rain as it's been for last 5 years. Not to mention the limitation of numbers of fans that can attend. Sure as hell Galway fans don't want to travel to ballyhaunis or bekan or wherever in mayo it is to play our home games.

It's ok for a pre season warm up game like fbd where there's nothing at stake but this is league football you talking about. Look at the conditions in Sligo last Sunday for mayo Donegal game and every other match played last Sunday. The weather for horrific and I was at the match and cam gladly say that there was great shelter in the stand which had lot more than 3,000 people in it. You would want to be in tuam stadium at 11 in the morning to get a seat in the shed for shelter so no point harping on about there until you get proper covered seating for 5,000 + which I hear is in the pipeline

But does it matter what county it is in if its the Connacht GAA base? convenience for fans would be live streaming it, not many fans went to the game and many complain about salthill. Support local business? local salthill businesses owned by the salthill people? who always object to stuff like lights in the stadium? preparation for provincial maybe but the dome is better preparation for Croke park

It prepared Galway better then Meath who played outdoor before hand. Galway fans dont want to travel to salthill going by the numbers who went to the game, dont be acting like Galway travel in huge numbers many would prefer if it was live streamed.

If there is so much act stake wouldnt Galway have a advantage over teams if they played in the Dome? Other teams have no experience. Galway train outdoor and played all their lives outdoors they wouldnt just collapse if the played 3 games in the dome.

I must be missing all these sellout games in Tuam stadium so in the last few years.

  • Registered Users Posts: 595 ✭✭✭jimdemp

If tuam want league games they should invest in a 3g pitch and offer something different

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,151 ✭✭✭threeball

If Tuam want games they should abandon their plans to keep the stadium capacity at 25k and instead aim for a very good quality 7k stadium. Upgrade the pitch and they'll get a few league games, constant club games in both codes including finals and possibly some small IC games. A damn sight better prospect than holding out for a connaught championship game every 15yrs.

It's not our home, Pearse Stadium is, so its not worth talking about.

I wouldn't be fucked driving up to the backarse of Mayo anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 595 ✭✭✭jimdemp

Its south mayo just over the galway border youd think it was in belmullet lol

10mins playing with a gale and only one score.

    1-0 to 0-1.

They could lose this unless they start to build a lead up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,464 ✭✭✭✭cson

**** me there'd be more intensity in an U-12 challenge game than this!

8 point lead, 8 scores... Must have had at least 10 wides so they've left then in the game here.

Down to 4 already.. all those as misses and the lack of scoring in the first 10mins is going to cost them. Down are one of the worst teams in the division as well.

Down messed up a kickout which left an easy score for Gallagher(tbh he should have been called for overcarrying and it was needless) and they got their first score of the half after twenty mins.

    Was the turning point.

    Thanks Down.

    Handy enough in the end.

You'd like them to be more clinical on the couple of goal opportunities.

Good to get out there with a win on dirty night, wouldn't read too much into the performance.

Impressed with galway... Think we have the makings of a decent team this year.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,151 ✭✭✭threeball

Two wins and defence looks better than normal but we're playing division 2 so it should look better. Way to lateral when we get held up by the opposition defence. No runners off the shoulder on far too many occasions. And we're still hitting and hoping on our kickouts. No plan there still.

Better than they've been up to now under Joyce but miles short of whats required to contend in the championship. If they only focused on improving the attack when it hits a wall and putting a kickout strategy together then they could take a huge leap forward. The personnel are as good as any other county.

Gallagher is a great addition imv, needs a bit of polishing, puts me in mind of Sean Og at times

Break next week hopefully put a pep back in the step. Felt the Sigerson lads were very leggy today. Couple of the younger lads could do with been taken out of the firing line altogether. PJ might be trying to develop them but may do more harm than good confidence wise.

Overall need more options at midfield PC been excellent first two games but I don't think he should be midfield. Too much donkey work and after Mayo last year not sure the legs have it. He's a natural scorer and link man. Trying the same thing and expecting different results never works.

Couple of out and out scorers light too. (Starting and lads to make a difference off the bench)

Impressed with Cian O Neil so far. Been close to him in the stand for both games and he's constantly barking instructions.

Pressing opposition kickouts much improved. Our own needs to develop and I hope they don't knock the natural instincts out of Flaherty to find a man rather than lump it long.

  • Registered Users Posts: 595 ✭✭✭jimdemp

Galway never changed the game plan at half time for playing against the wind. They left the full back line exposed and paid

  • Registered Users Posts: 595 ✭✭✭jimdemp

Ya Cian O Neil has made a huge difference to the team. They look very organized compared to last year

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭Heraldoffreeent

You think that wouldnt a happened if they played in the dome in Balla-howness?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,863 ✭✭✭Happyilylost

Not sure that's the case. After the early run of scores by O Hagan Galway dropped either McDaid or Daly in front of the two man full back line to stop the quick ball coming in when Down transitioned. Down ran out of ideas after that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 595 ✭✭✭jimdemp

Thats what im saying. I just find it strange it took them til then to make changes for playing against the wind and not at half time. Maybe they didnt rate the Down full forward line?

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,464 ✭✭✭✭cson

Maybe the GAA should just play every single Championship game this season in the dome and be done with it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,444 ✭✭✭MfMan

Not so easy make a change on the basis of something that *might* happen. Plan for it alright, which is what transpired subsequently.

Good win on the road, with some positives to be gleaned, not the least the progress of Gallagher and promising debutant McGrath. Bit more scoring power would be nice.

to be fair the FBD final showed how entertaining football actually is without any sort of elements in the way , my idea of covering every county ground in the country with a duffys circus type tent dose'nt look so foolish after all😂
