Hi,has anyone ever had or heard issues with the dipped lights on an Avensis.

Beams are ok but dipped headlights are very poor both range and brightness. I have checked and the switch for moving the beam up and down is working. Just wondering is there an issue with the certain make.

    Grateful for any help.

If they are halogen bulbs then that's probably why. Depending what bulbs it uses you could upgrade them to the likes of osram nightbreakers

I rang a lad this evening who works at my car and he told me to take a run over Monday afternoon and he will take a look what bulbs they are.

Hopefully different bulbs will sort it, I was just wondering if the type of car or design of light could have anything to do with it.

They're brutal, the 142 car I drive occasionally is horrible to drive at night, a 6V beetle has better lights. Seemingly the reflective coating in the dip housing wears away reducing light output, the only effective fix is to replace the lights themselves.

That's worse news. It's the wife's car and I never really took much notice till she made me Head out one evening. If this is the case with these cars it's a serious and dangerous fault that should of really been addressed. Going to my garage man tomorrow to see if he can fit different Or stronger bulbs. Hopefully some difference.

A quick Google on Avensis lights seems to flag an issue okay. More with the reflector in the housing more than the bulbs.

Maybe the bulbs will make a difference, try a breakers for a set of lights in better condition than what you have. Make sure they're genuine Toyota not spurious rubbish.

I will try the bulbs and see how they do first. Coincidentally when I googled someone mentioned a breakers but the feeling was there a good chance that the reflectors could be well worn in these so possibly back to square one.

That's where you need to be careful, some cars suffer terribly and others don't, unusual for Toyota. You could be lucky with just a change of bulbs.

Ordered the new bulbs today, should be in for Wednesday so post the outcome good or bad

Out of curiosity who did you order the bulbs from? powerbulbs in the UK were my favourite but they don't post outside the UK since brexit.

Luckily they're easy enough to change, being an avensis you'll get plenty of practice😋. I've never seen a car like them to blow bulbs!!!

Local suppliers I would think, it was the garage man who ordered them when I was there.

Ok. Any particular brand? Love the osram night breakers myself. Prefer the LEDs I have now even more😎

Anyhow replaced the bulbs with Osram night breakers but to no significant signs of improvement. Garage man even commented on how dangerous the dips were. Anyhow wife decided to change vehicle and the difference is unreal.

Change the whole light? Or just the bulbs.

I put osram night breakers in 2 of our cars and the difference is unreal.

I have videos before and after

I changed the bulbs only. No massive difference. After doing a bit of enquiring I think it's a common problem with some avensis

It is, replacement light units are the only solution as the silver wears off the reflector.

What car did she get? The best car I've driven with halogen lights is the facelift mk2 Octavia.
