I just logged in to my AIB account, cancelled the EIR direct debit authoristaion and logged out. They were unable to get payment for the router, hence having to raise a debt and ask for payment.

You seem to be going out of your way to exagerate how difficult it is to stop payments, when it's literally a few clicks and very easy.

Eir might be lousy on the accounting side, but the technical excellence of their product and service is unmatched. I would cancel my current provider and sign up with Eir again in a flash if they would just cop on about the long term price.

First of all, I literally stated that some banks make it easy. Secondly, you haven't stopped Eir from taking money from your account - you've cancelled a single mandate.

If Eir chose (whether deliberately or accidentally) to submit a debit request under a new mandate, the money would come out of your account. The only way for you to prevent that in advance is to blacklist Eir completely (for AIB, that requires posting in a written form, you can't do it online).

Have a similar issue with Eir. I've been charge double my previous bill after cancelling

(all the equipment was handed back and everything)

Just wondering how are you contacting them?

If I go through the phone line and type in my account number it tells me that account doesnt exist and hangs up on me

Assuming it's a direct debit, reverse it with your bank. If it's within 8 weeks of the transaction, your bank is required to facilitate this, no questions asked. Then blacklist Eir from your account to ensure they can't take any more debits (again, your bank is required to provide this facility).

It's much easier to get in contact with a company when they believe you have some of their money, compared to when you're trying to retrieve money from them.

This is all assuming you've done your due diligence to make sure you're correct: are you sure you weren't paying a month in arrears, and now the account is closed they've taken the final month's payment? For example, you may have paid a bill on Dec 31st, but that was covering the period Nov 1st-30th. You then end your contract on Jan 1st, so they immediately take for the period Dec 1st-31st, rather than waiting to the end of the month. I'm not saying that is what happened, just make sure you're in the right

In case it helps anyone else, I completely forgot they have physical shops. Dropped into the one in Dundrum

Guy in the shop sorted my account so it shows a credit and I've to fill out the refund form.

Best we can do in 2022 🙈

My account is in a closed state, I've returned everything, confirmed with them in the shop I'm fully settled..... and I just got a bill for 60 euro for Febuary

Just in case anyone was thinking of joining Eir, save yourself the hassle
