About saunas

Would you happen too know any Dublin based saunas or steam rooms ?? I used too use one at a gym and along came covid so the gym has taken them out.

I only joined the gym for sauna & steam rooms.

any ideas ??? As I’d love too get using them again.

there is some lovely facilities about but with covid it seems too have messed things up big time.

castleknock hotel has great facilities but has since go too hotel guests only so has ruled that out.

it’s mainly hotel based now as a lot of gym cannot or do not want too cater for such a small number of clientele.

there is the mobile sauna (we had used it out at sandycove) which is handy but is very hit and miss with bookings.

Scientific evidence around the proposed benefits of sauna is.. shaky at best. It can make people feel good and relaxed, so there's that.

If you're going to do that, make a note of people moving down to the lower levels if it gets too hot.

Any Irish saunas I've been to have had the capacity for it, but other than throwing another scoop of water onto it, no one's ever actually done it.

The general rule is nudity only, but wrap a towel around your waist or breasts (you can make this mandatory or optional depending on the sensitivities of your audeince). You'll need it to sit on, anyway.

@Princess Consuela Bananahammock If I was female, I think I’d find being covered from chest to thigh’s with a towel in a sauna pretty uncomfortable for more than a couple of minutes

And yet all the women that I share the sauna or see going into the sauna in the health club I’m a member wear a one piece, usually straight after stepping out of the pool, the lads are the same with their togs , bringing a towel in, I’d say less than 30% do that, just sit in the wet swimwear, bit of a bugbear of mine

Yep. The German saunas are more relaxed with no hang ups and people don’t stare.

I suspect it’s going to take a long time for a decent number, never mind the majority of Irish to change their view that non sexual social nudity is not completely strange

we stay in hotels in the Canaries that have spas & wellness centres where the websites would say or have signs that say saunas / steam rooms / massage treatments are nude or clothing optional but they do get a lot of German, Dutch, French & Scandinavian visitors and the naturist euro is important to the local economy, some of the hotels have their own separate naturist pools & sunbathing areas, so there is a demand or they wouldn’t bother. Some have separate nude & textile saunas to I suppose keep everyone happy

I do see the odd hotel review on tripadvisor usually by a British reviewer saying , we went to the spa but we kept our swim wear on, or we popped into the spa just for a giggle but plenty of brits are happy to get their kits off too

One would hope so.

If that is the case then the OP should ask for a new etiquette list….

Are they that common?

Hard to believe. Very narrow minded by these venues.
