Does the programing go all pear shaped when the overall majority of people on a thread aren't 'pro' Americans. And are just... Pro humanity and call out crap from wherever it comes from?.. I'd say it goes bananas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 858 ✭✭✭jolivmmx

I am scared about the people reading the forum who will believe the clear propaganda. And then decent posters, like Yurt, who are clearly well versed in their subject are kicked off the thread

Yes Russia have done a great job with its hybrid warfare and disinformation campaigns in Georgia,Ukraine and Crimea.

Some people would give an arm and leg to be able to bash US instead of actually looking at the facts and Russias involvement.

And some simply live in denial no matter what you represent to them

  • Registered Users Posts: 858 ✭✭✭jolivmmx

That person is head and neck into all the conspiracies, YouTube, etc. He is convinced of all this New World Order stuff. He also believes that people will be forced into re-education camps to receive the right opinion. He is Irish. He deplores Ireland with a passion and its “socialist” policies (yet, he damn well benefits from it). In his Narrative, the West is rotten, controlled by the hands of a few depraved individuals. Russia and the extreme Republicans. You couldn’t make it up.

Sounds like he needs a trip to Russia and China

Why can't you just comment on the post, why do you insist in personalizing the debate and insulting the poster? Can't handle that some people hold a different opinion?

  • Registered Users Posts: 515 ✭✭✭TheTruth89

Stupid moves like attacking the Ukraine while having a piss poor economy isn't going to aid them in the quest of challenging the us as world leader now is it ?

Probably because no matter what you are represented, you will always have an excuse to put to the blame on someone else

The game of the warmongering Putinist propagandists (as is the case for pro-Trump propagandists and anti-vaxxers) is to continually degrade and derail discussion by continually throwing in utter nonsense that everybody knows is nonsense, in order to make reasonable people angry, resulting in the increased likelihood of reasonable, intelligent posters getting understandably frustrated with this nonsense and saying something that gets them banned. You cannot debate with fascist propaganda and on the internet fascist propagandists can just sit there for hours typing utter nonsense and get away with it, be it a useful idiot in his parents' box room in Strokestown or a paid troll in an office in St. Petersburg. If they get banned they just re-register.

In the past, dictators enforced censorship by silencing people. Now they do it by ideological subversion through and constant repetition and flooding everywhere with bullshit.

Have you read the post he responded to...

These are all tactics. Very easily spotted.

Anyway back to Putins aggression on a neighbouring country which he is actively doing right now.

That stuff. You know the subject of the thread and the attacks he's launched on European countries systems notibly and recently our own. A neutral nation who's health system was taken down for weeks during a pandemic by your poster man Putin 'the strong'. That particular attack even knocked out your local GPs system. Such class. A classy man, if you will

But how come the moderators are playing along and agreeing to ban Yurt et Al. Surely, the benefits of having a well-reasoned point from a highly informed poster outweighs the harm of him calling somebody a tinfoil loon?

  • Registered Users Posts: 858 ✭✭✭jolivmmx

I agree! But he is completely indoctrinated. He has this air of superiority of knowing the truth. The truth is that all his propaganda is making him bitter with life. He sees negative in everything.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,356 ✭✭✭BluePlanet

So you believe that the Russian Federation, (what under Putin orders?) cyber attacked the HSE and Dept of Health here?

That sounds like a conspiracy theory since Ireland barely registers on Russia's radar.

  • Registered Users Posts: 858 ✭✭✭jolivmmx

Health details are worth far more than credit card details on the black-web

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,892 ✭✭✭✭listermint

The Russian based conti ransom ware group were behind it.

And whats amusing is you think these groups operate in silos as opposed to the reality that they operate on behalf of Russian security forces.

Its really funny that a foreign attack that actual harms you personally. Your physical local GP or health clinic is brushed off with such ease.

Its almost like.. It doesn't actually impact you locally at all?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,356 ✭✭✭BluePlanet

Fact is that Crimea is Russian, ethnically, linguistically and culturally. The people there don't want to be part of Ukraine and that's been expressed democratically.

Do posters here think it's reasonable to try and compel the 1.5m Russians living there to either what, be ethnically cleansed by Ukrainian/NATO militaries, and to live in a state that they feel doesn't represent them?

News for you, Crimea is Russian and will so remain. Sooner you get used to it the better for everybody.

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,892 ✭✭✭✭listermint

News for you, Ireland is Ireland and has a very slim number of Russians living here. Lovely people BTW I know various ones.

Which is why it's important to hold Putin and his security services to account for attacking our island during a pandemic.

He's an absolute off the wall dictator scumbag. But here we are. He attacks neutral countries as he sees fit. Using his criminal organisation to do so. Because they are just gangsters.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,356 ✭✭✭BluePlanet

Plenty of cyber attacks occur from Russia but that doesn't mean those criminals operate with the support of the government there.

The executive summary of the cyber attack indicates it was a simple attack, i think a malicious excel file? Such attacks are common on the world wide web and don't require the resources of a national government to mount.

I think the big problem was that the HSE were using vulnerable, unpatched systems and was the zero computer not running anti virus?

So refreshing to see a post like this that doesn’t involve ranting and raving hate speech like the majority of posts here.

To make a long story short, Khrushchev was involved in a power struggle after Stalin’s death and he decided that handing Crimea to Ukraine would be a good publicity stunt and gain support from Ukrainian party members, it worked.

This cynical and illegal act by Khrushchev is now considered “international law” 🤣

And what happens to the people who doesnt want to be part of Russia you think?

Or the ones that was forced to join?

The rules on forums like this tend to centre around a bogus form of so called "civility". It's easy for a troll or a disinformation agent to be superficially "civil" when the while thing is just one big joke to them. The strategy is to be "fun" or "friendly" or "lighthearted" while they interminably repeat their vacuous disinformation and warmongering propaganda. Whereas quite understandably, reasonable posters are genuinely horrified at the prospect of Putin unleashing a grotesque war on an independent country which has done nothing to deserve it.

In reality a discussion like this cannot be policed without mods who are on the thread all day and have an intimate knowledge of the subject matter, and that will never happen. Broadcast journalism moderators and hosts need to be exceptionally well briefed and have a particular no bullshit style, in order to call out bullshit. The international far right (and the tankies on the left) have a concerted strategy of firing out all sorts of nonsense at a very high rate of knots to confuse people. Sadly it's a highly effective strategy. In terms of information, real journalism costs money to produce. Of the major news sites, only the Guardian is free, and even there you have to sign up for an account. Fake news propaganda bullshit as used by Putinists, Trumpists, anti-vaxxers, racists, climate crisis deniers etc. is always free and it's always everywhere.

Additionally the cyberattack is believed to be the work of a cyber crime group Wizard Spider.

They allegedly operate from Russia and Ukraine.

Wizard Spider profile: Suspected gang behind HSE attack is part of world’s first cyber-cartel

Health service attack regarded as a for-profit crime rather than any proxy attack by Russia

Its interesting you are hear daily to defend a known thug and gangster. Rigardless of the subject at hand. What is it you expect to gain? Is it to me more antiwoke than anyone else? Is it to be contrary?

If Putin was a ceo of an American company doing exactly what he does now. Murdering competition, taking over people's businesses at will and disappearing its owners and lining his own pockets you'd be up in arms. But because he is not operating in a world you despise and he does the same things he's a hero.

Il say it again. There is a detailed thesis in this. What leads people down the path of swallowing so much propaganda that they will literally defend a murdering gangster. Not the middle road not taking a look at all sides. Literally defend a murdering gangster to the hilt.

He and his security services attacked ireland's health system just as he has launched attacks on various countries systems and companies globally. He's a scumbag. He's a billionaire scumbag to boot.

    He won't hug you.

Presumably Putin has spoken with China about the aftermath of an invasion and we'll see a turn by them to greater trade in their south.

Sanctions From Europe will not be long lasting, able to be worked around and fought all the way by Berlin and others.

Russia exports 10% of the world's oil, globally dominant in Fertilizer production, lots of minerals and a major wheat producer. It will probably take the West of the Ukraine, a globally significant grain basket.

His contention probably is that Western Europe won't do much bar talk, a far presumption, that Berlin, Vienna, The Hague won't make workable Sanctions, that the loss of Russian fertilizer, grain and oil will Knock Europe very hard. The Euro zone has been kept going by insane levels of stimulus and flooding it with magic money. It's still only given bare growth over the last decade and debt remains an existential issue. To a lesser degree America. There is enough of the world to work around.

He is looking at the end of the post WW2 consensus. Hell, probably even an end to Russia looking West and the primacy of Europe as a global centre.

Not a Putin bot, could care less if he was shot in the morning, hope that they don't invade and hope that Ukraine bloodies them if they do...

But there are reasons he would go and consider it worthwhile.

  • Yes, the the far left person that considers Putin to be a dictatorial menace is on his payroll.

    Very good.

There was a Tucker Carlson segment where there were actual Americans ringing in, wondering why the US was not backing Russia.

Then maybe you can be so kind to explain what the terrible west have to do with Russias invasion of Chechnya 1999,Georgia 2008,Eastern Ukraine 2013 and Crimea 2014

The Russian bear don't need to attack Ukraine to win anything. All the gain's it will make will be done with the threat of the so called invasion. Which seems only the USA and its new Polish lapdog know about.

Russia should deal with Germany to see Nord Stream 2 over the line on the condition it will make a deal with Ukraine.

NS2 is the only battle Russia need's to win as Ukraine will be worthless without the transit fees.

France is due to construct up to 14 nuclear reactors by 2050. They have always pushed nuclear. Basically, these reactors are up and running, we will be far less dependent on energy from outside the EU. It will change the political landscape
