Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    So bloody poor

Surely miles forward even if held onto there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,544 ✭✭✭dublinman1990

I thought it looked like game over for us but Sheehan might be our saviour. If the ref allowed France to intententionally cheat to have the ball forward to create the try. Our lads in green would have been furious to see it be allowed to go through.

  • Registered Users Posts: 719 ✭✭✭flatface

The breakdown has been a total mess. Diving off feet, no releasing, hands on the ground. Then the first penalty at a ruck is against Ryan 🙄

  • Registered Users Posts: 762 ✭✭✭starkid

    we're such a stupid team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,026 ✭✭✭Euphoriasean

Kicking the ball with 30 seconds left. Ffs

Stupid decision to kick, Sexton badly missed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,500 ✭✭✭✭fullstop

That’s it, kick the ball in the air with 30 seconds left. Braindead stuff.

needy Johnny's game management that last minute

    What was that kick!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,168 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

That must be it. Terrible handling. Didn't need to force it so much with the pass.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,038 ✭✭✭TomsOnTheRoof

    What a moron

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,924 ✭✭✭KH25

Very well held up, credit to Sheehan.

Far too many mistakes otherwise. Really disappointing to see so many handling errors and reverting to the box kick in the last few minutes. Some of the decision making was absolutely terrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,834 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Poor execution of skills, firstly the restart that was about 8 meters from an Irish player being able to complete then a pass two meters forward, last attack of the game.

last 15 we looked very leggy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,225 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

That pass was a mile forward from Carty too.

Ultimately we made the wrong decisions at crucial moments and we paid for it.

    a mile forward.

    Carty and Keenan, good grief.

    Shat the bed.

Also that call to go for 3 at the end, appalling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,517 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

What in the name of God was Keenan doing with a kick chase with 30 seconds left. And then straight up in the air. Jesus.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,139 ✭✭✭Augme

Not sure what was a worse decision. The french fly half kicking the ball away with 30 seconds on the clock or us kicking it straight back to them.

So many really sloppy errors from Ireland - disappointing.

need england now to do us a favour

  • Registered Users Posts: 762 ✭✭✭starkid

Can we stop with the overhyping of Keenan now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,984 ✭✭✭Soups123

Onfield decisions so poor at times today, taking the 3 points when 6 down was a poor call. Carty overplaying that pass, kicking it away with less than 30 seconds left…

We gave a good account of ourselves here against a good French team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,817 ✭✭✭✭bilston

Ah Jack, not the moment he wanted.

That game went by in a flash. The second half was a marked improvement. Easily the best two sides in the tournament. A LBP isn't a terrible outcome in the fight for the Championship.

But the first half was a wake up call as well and that will be no bad thing.

    Braindead stuff.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,140 ✭✭✭fitz

That game was there for the winning. We made mistakes, sure, but honestly, I'm livid with the some of the crap Gardner didn't penalise France for. Got away with murder that kept them in the game in the second half.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,870 ✭✭✭✭mfceiling

Our maul off the lineout was great.

    Mental call.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,738 ✭✭✭Shehal

Taking those 3 point was a terrible decision, we needed to take the risk and go for the try, even if he scored the 3 we would need a try to win the game. Ultimately we made too many errors to deserve to win that match, at 5 minutes before half time where we totally shat the bed was the difference in the end. Getting the LBP could be crucial though as if France slip up in an away game then we can slither in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 203 ✭✭ljsulster

That is why Jack carty should be nowhere remotely near an Ireland duty, brainless decision and awful execution.

France then with a brain fart and kick it back giving us another chance at possession,

only for Keenan to have a brain fart and kick it right back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,225 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

It was big test for Joey and he made the passing grade. Didn't make any big errors and tried to keep things ticking over.

It's not enough to dislodge Sexton in the short term as Johnny is just better. But if that's the level of performance we can expect from Carbery in the post Sexton era then that's probably enough.

    Ballax

We got a LBP and let's hope France are caught

  • Registered Users Posts: 923 ✭✭✭ujjjjjjjjj

Call for three with 7/8 mins to go hard to understand in anyway shape or form....

Bizarre call to bring Carty on with a few seconds left and expect him to do something....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,834 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

    Horgan’s summary is spot on…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,174 ✭✭✭Xander10

I'll take that if it's part of a learning curve for the WC

  • Administrators Posts: 54,110 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Why the fcuking fcuk would you take a shot at the posts at the end.

This makes no sense. No sense.

That's probably the first mistake he's made in international rugby, **** off.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,229 ✭✭✭A-Train

Ireland look so many levels below without Sexton. Terrible decision making all day.

France the better team on the day but they got most of the calls all day. Ireland still had no answers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,817 ✭✭✭✭bilston

Aye it was an interesting call. I said at the time I'd have gone to the corner, but to be fair it's hero or zero stuff. No right or wrong answer really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,159 ✭✭✭Cypher_sounds

Error after error. Poor stuff from Ireland.

We need to stop box kicking. It is just pure stupidity now.

Carberry did well. Not up to Sextons level yet but he needs a run in the team to get that. I'd start him in each remaining game.

Gibson Park is not at the level needed. Murray is getting on. Scrum half is now the biggest problem area in the team. They need to look at other options now. Gibson Park can't be the starting Scrum half in the world cup.

In the future when Ireland are playing against big packs eg France, South Africa etc it's wise to play Henderson and Ryan in the row with Beirne at blindside, gives us more physicality.

  • Registered Users Posts: 481 ✭✭CptMonkey

What was the end of that about. Why kick the ball away.

so much aimless kicking. Go to the line for a line out and go for the win not 3 points. Frustrating.

Reffing was poor at the breakdown. France got away with not releasing and going off their feet

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,078 ✭✭✭joseywhales

    Keenan was outstanding.

Also 4-1 in Paris, not the end of the world, we might take this championship on bonus points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,295 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Very disappointing to go to France and score three tries and come away with just the losing bonus point ,

Even more disappointing to have thrown it away with some unforced errors.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,233 ✭✭✭ClanofLams

Depends on your outlook I guess. Would be pretty sure you reduce chance to win and obviously increase chance to draw.

We would have been deep in their 22 against a team on the back foot the few minutes before that. We never got back there again.

Play to win for me and stick it in corner all day long

Might have been the game Ireland needed tbh. Considering how much went wrong they were still there to win it in the last 10 min but for a whole bag of stupid decisions they can now learn from.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,444 ✭✭✭PokeHerKing

The only reason you should be kicking 3 there is if were 5 or 8 behind. Being 6 behind means it's auto corner. Not even close imo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,225 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

9 is an issue. JGP struggled a lot when the ball wasn't served up to him quickly. Took his try well, but wasn't brilliant.

Murray kicked far too much and that pass to nobody when we were in the French half was a killer. We lost 50 metres from that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,865 ✭✭✭BENDYBINN

Sexton was really missed today.... No leadership on the field.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,706 ✭✭✭clsmooth

Excellent game. And huge credit to Ireland for that second half performance as we were blown away in the first 40.

Porter struggled in the scrum in the first half and was very solid second. Ryan was immense. We got unlucky with injuries as POM lasted 10 mins and Kelleher 25 mins. Sheehan came of age out there.

Our lack of protection at the ruck lost that for us. JGP and Murray struggled. I though Carbery was very good. Don’t think Sexton would have made too much difference which is all we could have asked for beforehand!
