I'm on the handicap treble of South Africa, Argentina and the All Blacks.

It's a long time to be keeping money tied up for but I can't get my head around racing only being -3 against stade in the first leg of the last 16 ties. Understand that home advantage is big deal with this format but that line is 6/7 points wrong imo.

Montpellier -3 against quins is the other spread that looks short to me but they are far too Jekyll and Hyde for my liking

do not under estimate the strength of the Parisienne rivalry between Stade and Racing.

Stade at home will die with their boots on here

England to beat Italy by 1 to 12 points @ 4/1 seems good value?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,921 ✭✭✭✭Loafing Oaf

I'd be surprised if the margin is that narrow but the Telegraph are predicting 31-17, just a shade above, https://www.theweek.co.uk/news/sport/rugby-union/955458/six-nations-2022-guide-fixtures-squads-predictionsso maybe it's worth a nibble at those odds...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,067 ✭✭✭✭fryup

well that was close wasn't it😕

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I think it all turned on that penalty fir holding on where one of the Italians caught the ball in the air and got knocked down. No review of the incident where imo one English player made a genuine attempt to go fur the ball but the second didn't and was partly responsible for knocking the player sideways. I thought that should have been a penalty for Italy but it ended up a penalty for England and led to the second try. I felt things changed after that second try with England more willing to take risks and that worked out fir them.

    Bets for today

    Ireland -16 @10/11 (nap)

    Munster +1 @10/11

Ireland, wales and England to win @3/1

    England win @23/10

    Ireland to win championship @9/2

    @10/10

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,458 ✭✭✭kuang1

Brave bets in the main Syd. Although definitely agree with your nap.

In the second half especially today, I think we'll see Scottish heads drop. A manifestation onfield of the estrangement in the camp.

More points scored in second half than first, might be worth looking at the handicap price at half time for Ireland too.

Ireland and England both to win now 9/2 with PP.

Okay for me to cheer for a French grand slam in the circumstances? I suppose I can say I want the English to lose...

France win; France win most lineouts; England concede most penalties - 3/1

does anyone know what the odds on Italy to win in Cardiff were??

Would Ireland women really be expected to beat Wales by 16 today?

Wouldn't have thought there was that much betwen them.

Won’t be backing it but hard to understand Leinster -11 v Connacht this week. Connacht on horrific run of form despite eeking out win against far from full strength Treviso at weekend. Leinster isn’t far off being the Irish team currently, comfortably beat Munster in Thomond by 17, could have won by more.

Bookies seem to be factoring in hope/expectation that Connacht will raise their game for occasion but if you like backing on form, clearly only one side to be on.

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,915 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

they are -12 at the moment with PP. I took them at -10 after the last round.

all the logical money would say that even -12 is about 5 points too short at least, but this game is basically all connacht have to play for this year. I wouldn't discount the level of impact a returning bundee Aki would have as well. he can be a game changer himself, and a leader by action on the field.

i think the best value is the double connacht 1st half - leinster 2nd half @5/1

i can see connacht coming out of the blocks at 110% and if carty is on form behind a pack going forward he can create openings where connacht can score from. However its inevitable that leinster just keep turning the screw and thats why loads of team wilt against then with 30 minutes ot go

That seems a reasonable bet too. Only concern I would have is if there is strong wind (haven’t checked forecast) & Leinster play with it in first half, you’re basically dead before ko.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I'd love if Connacht had a great game but just can't see it at the moment. Confidence has to be low after two heavy defeats and that Leinster defeat was to a mixture of second and third team players.

You have to think Leinster will have the firsts out for this game and they'll want a big win after what the seconds did.

  • Registered Users Posts: 94 ✭✭Bitconfused

It doesn't seem that there is much interest in rugby betting on this site but this is the only thread I can find on the topic.

Ireland have Romania first up and are currently 53 point favs for that game. I'm thinking that Ireland will be playing some second choice players for this game and the number might be in the 30s come kick off so worth a bet now. Even if its a 5 month wait.

Any thoughts on what team is likely to play? I think the 53 is on the basis of the two full strength teams playing each other.

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,915 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

Irelands seconds could easily put 70 points on Romania. Romania only qualified straight for the RWC due to Spain being docked points, which meant they didn't have to go through the last qualifier tournament.

The only reason that a 50+ point difference wouldn't be achieved is down to weather, if it's torrential then that would drag the spread down.

Personally I wouldn't be going near that bet until I had a good idea of the coming weather. On a dry track Ireland seconds could easily pass that 53 point spread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,186 ✭✭✭Lost Ormond

Ireland will be playing a lot of their wider squad but 50 points now isnt too much even for them and i wouldnt see it as worth a bet now. not going to make so much more money now then waiting until closer to game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,599 ✭✭✭✭CIARAN_BOYLE

The other thing worth noting is that Ireland are going to this world cup with just 2 warmup games.

I'm guessing that was arranged so that Ireland can run reasonably strong teams against Romania and Tonga as a warmup. This will mean its not likely to be a complete 2nd string team.

Its worth noting that Romania lost to Portugal this year in the Rugby European championship this year and Spain last year.

In last years AIs they lost to Tonga, Samoa and Uruguay (beating Chile).

We have a third. playing Samoa in France August 26th afaik.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,458 ✭✭✭kuang1

What do people think about this... I'm no longer a betting man, and won't be betting on the RWC.

But Ireland's price is just... Wrong!

I'm not declaring that Ireland will win the World Cup, but 4th favourites at 9/2?

    Thats a value bet imo.

    I think we're more like a 3/1 or 7/2 shot.

Edit: these prices are live as I post btw. So SA hammered NZ last night, and this is the current state of play.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,458 ✭✭✭kuang1

And if I could, I'd lay England all day long at 11/1

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,915 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

    England are god awful.

Your have more value in someone like Fiji coming out of that side.

Even aussies at 10/1 are better value

Anyone any fancies for the first weekend round of matches? Very much a casual fan so wouldn't feel too confident in picking any selections myself! Cheers.

Have gone big on this Sky request-a-bet

Either Will Jordan, Damian Penaud, Cheslin Kolbe or James Lowe to be outright top tryscorer @ 7/4

Also a few more mosty tryscorer-themed ones

Mateo Carreras @ 28/1 Top Tournament Tryscorer

France win World Cup, Thomas Ramos outright top points scorer, Fiji to reach quarter-finals @ 22/1

South Africa to win World Cup & Canan Moodie outright top tryscorer @ 80/1

New Zealand to Win the Tournament & Mark Telea Top Tournament Tryscorer @ 33/1

And a couple of top team tryscorer doubles: Arendse/Villiere and Bielle-Biarey/Tabutsadze (try saying that after a few scoops😝)

Plus a couple more ludicrous longshot request-a-bets that I'll post if they're looking remotely likely to come off...

I took a punt on Ireland to score a try in the first ten mins. of each half tonight @13/2. Fingers crossed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,026 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

England have looked good in this tournament. Don't mind the last result, it's clear the whole squad was given a weeks rest.

They looked awful in the six nations but you have to remember that Borthwick only got the job in December so hadn't much time with them before then.

They go into the QF fresher than any other team in the competition. If they get an easy game there then they are serious opponent in the SF.

  • Subscribers Posts: 41,915 ✭✭✭✭sydthebeat

We'll I'm already in profit for picking Fiji to get out of their pool (12/5) so a few quid on Fiji to win @ 13/5 isn't going to break the bank
