Hi. A person is trying to open a current account. Their passport is expired. Their driver's licence expiry date has been extended due to Covid and they can't renew until end of April. So the driver's licence is out of date. Can you please advise what can be done? Would a letter from NDLS suffice? Thanks for any help

I applied for a passport online and it arrived within four days. I have heard about other people getting them even quicker. That's the easiest solution.

    Hi

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

    Please see below.

Online Applications: All online applications for a Personal Current Account require a valid passport book for photo ID.

Branch Applications: Valid passport book, passport card, ROI Diving License Card (Full or Provisional), UK Driving License Card (Full), National ID card.

A proof of address dated within the last 6 months such as a utility bill will also be required.

    Thanks,

    Declan

Surely, if their driving licence expiry date has been extended to the end of April, it is currently valid?

    Hi there

Yes, this is correct if the driver's license date is valid until the end of April but if it's out of date then this can't be accepted.

    Thanks,

    Declan

Just to clarify, if the driver's licence would have originally been valid up to 31st August 2021 but its validity period is extended to 30th June 2022 because of CoViD, would that licence be accepted as a valid form of photo ID up to 30th June 2022?

Thanks for the replies. The date has been extended but the person in the bank said that they can't accept as it as the date is showing as expired on the licence itself.

That makes sense. A driver's licence expiry date is extended within the NDLS prerogative for driver's permission, insurance and road tax purposes, but for ID verification purpose it's out of date. I'm not sure if they do, but banks should accept a PPS card. The easiest and quickest way is to simply renew a passport, as mentioned above.
