Contactless abroad and conversion offer

I can't find the answer to this anywhere.

When I used my card abroad using pin, it asks the usual local currency Vs poor euro conversion. Naturally I always pick local currency.

What happens if I pay contactless? Does the machine give a conversion option? Do I need to tell the sales person I want to pay in whatever the currency is?

Contactless will default to local currency each time unless changed by salesperson.

Excellent, thanks. When you say changed, do they have to press the local currency like pin or they have to find a setting to change it to euro?

Yes some manual change at their terminal. I suppose if you were chatting with them pre the sale they might suggest it but you can decline, you should only see the local currency price when paying same as if you are a local, Euro amount should not be displayed prior to taping to complete the sale.
