Thanks for such a prompt reply. Perhaps you can say when this unit came to be? Is it within the past 10 years?

My friend quoted an instance where somebody he knows from the town who suffered a heart attack in 2010 and was

carted off to Dublin by ambulance in the middle of the night.

Many heart patients are still carted off to Cork/Limerick so there must be more high tech units there than the Tralee one.

It's a small unit so capacity can be an issue, in any CCU, not just Tralee if all the beds are occupied by patients who cannot be safely transferred to a general medical ward and you need specialised cardiac treatment and care you will be taken to the nearest available bed. The Bon's does not have 24hr cardiology cover, maybe that's where the person who thought there was no CCU in Tralee got their wires crossed.

Any truth to the rumour that the Burger Shack is under new management?

Heard they sold it in December. I think the previous owners now own the new cafe in Rock st, northsouth.

They have only 4 beds in it as far as I remember I could be wrong I wasn't the best when was in there. They take you to cork as well for stints to get put in

might be off topic - has Lidl in Tralee a bad rep for clamping people. happened Mrs Bellview today, she did shop there but she did drop down town for 30 mins.. car was parked over the hour and she was clamped when she returned. the clamper lad was really nice guy but could not do anything... the guy on phone in clamper office was not as nice ... and the Lidl store didn't care at all..surprised that lidl have clampers operating in their car park...lesson learned Mrs Bellview will be using Aldi in future

There are a lot of notices in the car park, there is a multi story next door, train station has parking 50 meters away. I don't think the lesson here is to shop at aldi...

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,340 ✭✭✭phormium

There are signs up there about the parking, it used to 2 hours, thought it was gone down to 90 minutes, is it only 1 hour now?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,678 ✭✭✭Bellview

yes one hour. i also know of a lady last week who for whatever reason spent over an hour in the shop and was clamped

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,678 ✭✭✭Bellview

maybe not, but in fairness she did shop there and was slightly over on time and clamped... so Aldi/Dunnes/Tesco are all better options might save 120 euro every now & again. is it this the only supermarket that clamps in Tralee?

Not sure about clamping but Dunnes NCR definitely tickets offending vehicles. Not sure how the penalty charges would be enforced without clamping though...

Thought that the multi story next store had been closed, when did it re-open.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Regional South Moderators Posts: 9,367 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ciarrai76

Its still closed, hasn't been open since before the first lockdown. I heard it has been sold, but no plans to reopen apparently (can't quite remember the reason why). I noticed that one of the shutters was damaged by the storm last week, ripped half of it off! It only has a temporary railing up at the moment, so I'd say it will attract a bit of anti-social issues if its not fixed soon.

Lidl have got strict on the clamping. They seem to be getting a lot of people. If someone is just over the hour its a little unfair, but I guess they were having issues with people parking there and going into town. I heard a woman complain to the guy the other day that she was shopping in there for the hour, not sure how she managed to spend an hour in there though!? There are very clear signs up all around the carpark though, so the customer should be aware of the 60 minutes!

Dunnes don't clamp, but they do put fines on the car, but I have been told its quite hard to enforce those fines.

I can understand why they placed a time limit on parking but 60 minutes is a little tight. My wife & I drive to Tralee about every three or four weeks to do a large shop so we often spend quite a bit of time in the shop. Ninety minutes would have been fairer.

If we thought we had to watch our time then we wouldn't bother & would go to Aldi instead. Other people might feel the same.

  • Moderators, Regional South Moderators Posts: 5,784 Mod ✭✭✭✭Quackster

Well there's always the other Lidl in town that doesn't have a time limit on parking.

Its only the Lidl in Edward street that does this, not the one out the Castlemaine road. The town centre one has issue with people parking for free and going into town for long periods or leaving cars there while they go to work, so I can understand why they have to do it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 808 ✭✭✭amdaley28

I didn't realise it was only the Edward Street branch. That explains a lot.

Wouldn't affect us as we seldom go into Tralee itself. 👍

60 minutes does seem rather tight but I think the vast majority of Lidl customers probably get their shop done in 30 to 40 minutes (the store seems less designed for lingering than say a large Tesco or Dunnes) so if 90 minute or more parking was allowed, it would encourage shoppers to do errands around town or even get a lunch in after their Lidl shop and prevent other shoppers from getting parking if the carpark is consistently full unnecessarily.

Yes you'll hear people say they'll never shop there again but the cost to Lidl of losing that minority of customers is probably far less than the loss of customers who frequently can't park there due to the carpark being occupied by "Lidl shoppers" having their lunch in Benners or The Grand or nipping into Penneys.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,340 ✭✭✭phormium

In fairness I have never seen that Lidl carpark even remotely full except maybe Christmas week!

There are quite a few pizza take away somewhere on Castle street of late! The Indian take away is now a pizza place, and Sammys\mcdoner is now called Lighthouse Pizza. There’s also Pizza King! Pizza seem st be the new kebab shop!

Whats the taxi situation like in Tralee on Saturday nights? Staying a few miles out of town on Saturday night for the Mayo match and jus wondering will it be hassle trying to get a taxi out at around midnight

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Regional South Moderators Posts: 9,367 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ciarrai76

You should be ok at that time. There are usually quite a few taxis on the rank in the main street (The Mall area). Gets a bit busier when the later pubs close.

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,903 ✭✭✭Coillte_Bhoy

Ya i was hoping we might be ok if we head back to hotel before midnight and the chaos of closing time, thanks
