Talk of the Limerick Empire are proving to be premature.

A very well coached and drilled team but they haven't a team of superstars.

Having said that I also don't see us as second favourites for the AI. More one of 6/7 teams.

If I was a manager I'd target Hegarty every game as he's easy to rile up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

2nd game of the league. Thought it was a good game and both teams played well. Hegarty deserved his red. I note some posters on here delighted. It's a tad premature. Hes a fantastic player and gets plenty of punishment himself. He ll be fine. Galway have it all to prove but are going on the right direction. Over all both managers must be pleased enough.

Anyone that bets against Limerick in the Championship are still wishful thinking.

This bull about limericks reserves being the second best team in Ireland has been debunked, they won't have it as easy this year having to play more matches, last time that happened they shat the bed against the cats.

Very sporting remark regards Hegarty. Maybe that is exactly whats happening to him .

Limerick are undercooked. They were on a team holiday in January. They have trained very little collectively. Fitness levels are still an issue. They have had little hurling over the winter months. Other teams have been training away since November. AIs aren't won in February. Limerick will be a different team when the ground is hard and the ball plays faster during the Summer. I bet John Kielys isn't worried about 2 league losses on the trot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,065 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Galway were impressive but as said Limerick may not be at full fitness yet and are effectively out of the running to get a semi final place now

Hard to make full judgment til tomorrow night really but Galway could win this league but then again it's hard to know as teams may be keeping the powder dry with the early championship start

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

You're rude Mantis and that's not nice. That Kilkenny game in 2019 was barely won ..Limerick didnt start until the 20min.. They then spanked ireland for the last 2 years as retribution. No need to be nasty.

Limerick lost the first two games last year aswell. They ll be grand . Kiely was looking for a performance and he got it. Galway made the extra man count. It wouldnt be unusual for Galway to do well in the league. For as long as Iv been watching hurling Galway have been a good league team. Its the Championship where they sometimes underperform. Like I said it was a good game.

I wouldn't think he's delighted either. Limerick do need some new players to come in and challenge.

I don't follow the Fitzgibbon closely but Galway must be missing a lot of players to that too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,995 ✭✭✭billyhead

He won't be happy because Kielys a winner and winnings a good habit but he won't be too disheartened either. If Limerick peak in June and July that's all that matters. Lynch is a big loss and although young Cathal O'Neill played well Lynches influence on Limericks running short passing game is huge.

What happened. I was the other end of the stadium and didn't see ?

He got a shoulder into the chest off the field.. usual kind of crap that goes on. He kinda struck the stomach first(was hard to see that), then kinda half clotheslined/forearmed Cooney into the neck... He struck 2/3/4 times but the one to the neck/chin is what the red would have been for.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,869 ✭✭✭Happyilylost

Seriously? Google Hegarty sent off.... I was in the opposite stand but was able to find the incident within a few minutes.

    Donal Og comments.......

It wouldn't take you long to go back and five other incidents like that. You can't use that hurley like that.

We've all spoken very highly of him and Limerick over the last few years, but he has a fierce habit of flicking back with the hurley. You can't do it.

He has been very lucky over the last few years. I'd actually say that when John Kiely sits down and looks at that, he will nearly feel relieved in some ways that it happened to him out here.

Limerick were lucky that it didn't happen in a big game last year and it could have had a bigger impact on the outcome in the Munster final.

This was coming to Hegarty and they were lucky that it happened to them tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,292 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Thanks. I saw a video of the start of the fight but it didn't show what Hegarty had done to make him stand out for a red as that was off camera. At the time I thought it was fouls on Hayes started the fight and had assumed Hegarty done something as 3rd man in but Hayes wasn't fouled in the end.

Galway to win the league. Dublin, Wexford and Kilkenny to qualify out of Leinster.

  • Registered Users Posts: 715 ✭✭✭Mac_Lad71

I don't think John Kiely will be unduly worried about last night's defeat but this was a massive win for Galway and Shefflin.

To come to the home of the AI champions and match them physically and win the game is a huge boost.

The sending off was justified and undoubtedly affected the final score.

Limerick's discipline is an issue and I agree with everything Donal Óg said after the game.

My God Offaly are simply rubbish so far. Didnt think they were that poor.

    15 gone and Cork lead 0-03 v 3-06

Cork should just take their points at this stage already. We could get double figures for goals at this rate.

What's truly laughable is the idea that hoofing long ball all the time is still an option in the 2020s

Kilkenny doing the majority of the hurling here but losing. Some woeful shooting from them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

Tipp look very lightweight. Kilkenny should be up 3 or 4. The shooting is so bad. Guys on their own and blazing it wide. Walsh caught a fantastic ball then took a rash shot even he could have taken a few secs.. The diagonal ball is all well and good but if its too far and long then it's a terrible ball

Tip v Kilkenny - as enjoyable a game of hurling as you are likely to see in the month of February.

Hard to pick out the winner of the league

The final will only be 2 weeks out from the championship

  • Registered Users Posts: 95 ✭✭nklc

A lot of teams find out the hard way that the killinan end is very difficult on a windy day . Some shocking wides hit in this years county final in to that end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,940 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

I was looking at the Div1 B table there makes nice viewing from a Dublin perspective.

I am not sure how seriously Tipp took the match in Thurles. The impression I got was they seemed to take Dublin for granted.

Dublin host the Cats in Parnell and go away to Laois in the last match. Dublin are great in Parnell. And since Laois shocked Dublin in the championship - Dublin won't be taking them lightly again for a while.

Dublin are a real confidence team. If they get momentum they can be very dangerous. A league final going into the championship would be lovely. Great progress.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 39,065 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

That draw between Dublin and Waterford in Round 1 could come in very handy as potentially both could end up getting through to the semi finals next weekend

Tbh Waterford need to get over Antrim today first before thinking about that

If I remember Dublin had a hard fight to get the 2 points off Antrim. They are playing well it seems but not getting the results.

    Yeah top 2 in each group (1st 1A vs 2nd 1B, 1st 1B vs 2nd 1A)

Big weekend in 1B next weekend, Dublin vs Kilkenny Saturday and Waterford vs Tipperary on Sunday. Wins for Dublin and Waterford will mean both are through but anything other than that makes things very interesting going into the last round on the 20th March

The dirt of Limerick is unreal. The same nonsense went on in the Munster final last year. At least, it's getting copped on to now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,186 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

Sorry I don't see Limerick being overly physical at all. Its a well contested game..Tipperary would prefer if hurling was 'non touch'. No power in them. I'm not a Limerick man by the way. Both reds were justified but Kingstons was especially dangerous.

The knockout stages in the league could be exciting and it's anyone's really. Wexford more or less through as they travel to Offaly next weekend with Cork vs Galway and Clare vs Limerick (which is possibly a dead rubber at this stage ?)

As siad earlier next weekend in 1B is going to be great

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

    It's three reds.

Two for Limerick. Three in two games. But no problem with discipline...

Why would you bring up Tipp in a game between Cork and Limerick?

I know why 🤣 And it's... well, you know yourself.

And you're not a Limerick man? Who cares where you're from? Why bring it up?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

All well and good performing in the league, but will Cork be able to perform like this against Limerick in championship?

You obviously don't watch much hurling. Limerick are a physical side, as for your comment on Tipperary, complete and utter bitter nonsense.

  • Registered Users Posts: 847 ✭✭✭Denny61

Limericks confidence will be at an all time low going in to championship..they have been found out..how many all stars for 2022 now ??? One possibly two

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,995 ✭✭✭billyhead

They will be a different animal in the championship.

While Limerick are certainly no angels the Cork players tendency to go down cltuching the head in the hope of getting players sent off is shameful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,164 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Think the refs are finally starting to clamp down on the limerick filth, getting away with that craic for far too long.

Still though that's only have a limerick team they're keeping plenty in reserve still though nice to see their fans heading for the exit with 5 minutes to go.

I think a few posters here haven't read what I wrote. Limerick aren't overly physical . They play the game as it should be played. I'm fact the ref today should have sent off 23 for Cork but didn't because Hannon didn't go to ground. Weak reffing.

I shouldn't have brought up Tipp. But I do think it's in Tipps best interests to highlight Limerick because Tipp can't compete when the game gets really physical. They just don't have the size. So there is an agenda from some of the posters on here.

Cork were outstanding I thought. All that's good in Cork hurling, measured ,clever ,good shooting. Limerick will be different come championship but it was still important for Cork not to lose again

Talking about All Stars in February based on 3 league games. Absolutely laughable stuff altogether 😂 I remember similar talk going on last May when LImerick drew with Tipp in the league opener and then lost two games in a row to Galway and Waterford. We all know how the championship ended up going. People writing off Limerick already is ridiculous.

Delighted with how Wexford are going. Really hope we can keep this going into the championship

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

"But I do think it's in Tipps best interests to highlight Limerick because Tipp can't compete when the game gets really physical. They just don't have the size. So there is an agenda from some of the posters on here."

    Hahaha wow. An agenda... wow.

You can't "find out" a team with 3 All Irelands in 4 years.

They are playing crap and teams have adapted to their tactics but "found out" implies they are chancers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,292 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Gonna be a real interesting year if league form holds. Dublin look strong enough to make it a 4 way battle to advance in Leinster and Antrim could pull of a big surprise win.
