What is this white stuff growing on indoor wall?

Hi

Looking to renovate a room that has damp issues that's not being used. This white stuff is growing on parts of the wall, does anyone know what it is and how to treat it.

This is obviously dangerous because it's close to an electrical socket? The gutter is on the opposite side of this wall

You need to be opening windows. Has the room any vent?

Yeah it does but a very old style one with poor ventilation, another thing on the list to do.

Do you have any idea what that white stuff is, maybe efflorescence?

looks like efflorescence which would indicate that there is moisture traveling through the wall. hard to tell from picture how high up wall it is. but you say gutter is on opposite side of wall so i would be checking gutters and roof for leaks

I would guess mould. Efflorescence dissolves in water if you want to try that and see.

Diluted Vinegar neutralises efflorescence, you buy it in spray bottles in the 2euro shop.

Yes, it's efflorescence. This is caused by salts from moisture in the plaster or wall structure. If you stop the moisture penetration, give it a good brushing and then a rub down of vinegar/lemon juice it will be fine.
