The majority certainly don’t have that opinion, but I haven’t as yet made myself a spokesperson for the majority. I can only really offer my own opinion on things until such time as I’m given the job.

So why did they need to bring in Lancaster if everything was going so well? Cullen was on the way out until Lancaster came in a turned things around.

  • Registered Users Posts: 726 ✭✭✭durthacht

Why did they need to hire a good coach? Why would they not?

Every elite club has a team of coaches and Leinster had a vacancy, so they hired Lancaster to replace McQuilkin. To infer that reflects badly on Cullen seems irrational.

To say Cullen was on his way out seems just empty speculation.

You can't reasonably isolate that as the only relevant factor. From memory, the O'Connor team performed poorly in the league and were reaching the end of their cycle so the dip in 16 was the start of a new team that was becoming more settled in 17 when performance improved again - so that could be part of the reason for performance variations.

Team performance is influenced by multiple factors, and it doesn't make sense to assume a single one is the only causal factor.

The balance of the current coaching team is successful, so I don't see how it makes sense to criticise the head coach who has led this transformation since 15.

This weekend is a must win! All weekends are, but it's concerning that Leinster are struggling to put away average sides.

While I really rate the coaching team, I think they've gone of the boil a little.

We really should be capable of going to Benetton and getting the bonus points!

You obviously are a new Leinster fan who doesn't remember pre Lancaster.

Coaches move around all the time for a variety of reasons.

    McQuilkin left, replaced by Lancaster

Dempsey left for Bath a few years ago and was replaced by Felipe

Cullen was bot on his way out, 3 weeks into the season, when Lancaster arrived

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,952 ✭✭✭TRC10

You must be new around here

We generally don't reply to Jimdemps

The guy has never made a good point or coherent argument in this forum

  • Registered Users Posts: 595 ✭✭✭jimdemp

McQuilkin was just a defence coach so if you think Lancaster is leinsters defence coach im wasting my time lol

  • Registered Users Posts: 726 ✭✭✭durthacht

Lancaster was originally hired to cover the defence brief, and it was later expanded.

And nope, I'm not a new Leinster fan as I bought my first season ticket over ten years ago.

Thanks for the advice. Time to step away I think.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,790 ✭✭✭✭Burkie1203

And? So Leinster hired a replacement for an outgoing coach and re-jigged their coaching responsibilities over time.

I also never said Lancaster was hired as defence coach, but he was hired when McQuilkin left.

Great to see you accept Cullen wasn't on his way out too.

Please stop quoting him as I have him blocked but he shows up when quoted! It’s torture 😁

Assuming Harry wont feature this weekend although he wasn't mentioned in the injury update.

Positive to get JOB, Molony and Larmour back this week

Team relatively picks itself with the exception of one or 2 spaces:

    Dooley, Tracy, Ala'alatoa

    Molony, McCarthy

    Ruddock, Deegan, Penny

    McGrath, R Byrne

    ROL, Osborne

    Larmour, JOB, TOB

Cronin, E Byrne, Vakh, Toner, Leavy, McCarthy, Hawkshaw, A Byrne

I think Penny had a super game when he came on at the weekend and he's having a very strong season. Harsh to drop Dan but I'm preferring Penny at 7 at the moment and no need to shoe horn Dan elsewhere for the start when we have great options there.

    Hawkshaw in for 10 cover.

Bennetton shipped a heavy defeat at home to Sharks and they're as hard hit by 6N as we are. Unsure if they're getting any players back.

With that thought in mind it might be the case we see some newer caps rather than wily veterans. Soroka could see himself at 19 and possibly a debut for one of the Academy hookers - although I think an academy hooker debut this season would coincide with Dev also being on the bench for obvious reasons.

TOB signed a new contract. Seems like another day of 3 announcements made. It’s a nonsense way to do it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,581 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

I reckon that Penny should get as many starts as possible. He should get a contract asap. Leavy and Connors are having disasters with injuries. Connors has played 25 times for Leinster! And 6 or 7 times for Ireland! He's 26 and has played so little. Penny has played more for Leinster than either of these boys over the last year or so.

Surely Penny is worth investing in. He's young and dynamic and is very good. I would prefer keeping him over the others and will Leavy or Connors get back to their previous standard?

Adam Byrne will be released, imo. There's too many good young and cheaper players available. I can see him going abroad. It will be interesting to see who gets promoted up from the academy? I reckon this years intake will be small. A smaller squad and less need. This would provide other provinces with an opportunity to select Leinster players into their academies. Looking at the u20's, I can't see too many getting into Leinster's academy. Good players all but there's less of a need for large intakes.

New contract for Larmour announced too.

Doris not getting a central contract is nearly as mad as JVDF

    Isn't Lasisi a lh prop?

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

said in a recent interview that he was focusing on TH prop going forward.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,581 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

    Ok? That's good.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,157 ✭✭✭Serbian

There’s a good bit of hype around Jack Boyle who is around the same age as Lasisi. Presumably, Lasisi is being moved over over largely to avoid competing with Boyle, and also because he’s 10+ kg heavier

    Max Deegan has signed on.

    That is huge news.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,172 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Excellent news on Deegan. According to the list above, the players I'd be desperate to keep are Henshaw, Baird, the Byrnes, Sheehan, Connors and Sexton.

Still a big ask to get all of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

Henshaw is on a central currently, can’t see that changing.

I would imagine we will keep all of those players. The talk of Ross moving is hopefully just contract negotiation talk.

I think with Deegan signing that we might be losing Penny though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

Penny isnt out of contract and has turned down moves elsewhere already.

    Leavy is at risk IMO.

Is Josh injured? If not, I'd prefer him on the bench to Toner.

It will probably be one of Leavy or Connors.

Hope whoever leaves stays within the Irish System.

Either of the two could make a nice replacement for Chris Cloete
