Took a good ball to get rid of him. CdG dropped straight after lunch. Difficult catch.

Second new ball is close and Maharaj is looking dangerous in the meantime too.

    227-9

dont understand why New Zealand, 1-0 up in this two match series once they were 6 down, didn’t just abandon the win and attacking cricket and play conservatively for the draw… still trying to hit sixes… mad.

wow, this rain wasn’t forecasted at all but it’s coming reasonably heavily, covers on, early tea taken… looking back at the forecast the chance of rain…3%..

should be enough time and good weather for the SA win, disappointing I am not a fan of this SA team. Elgar arguing the decision to go off…. It was chucking it down ffs…Hmmm no good.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,413 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Well SA take a *deserved win…

disappointed in their sportsmanship on field however, both the manner of their appeals, deliberate delay tactics and more importantly …

28.5 Fielders not to encroach on pitch

While the ball is in play and until the ball has made contact with the striker’s bat or person, or has passed the striker’s bat, no fielder, other than the bowler, may have any part of his/her person grounded on or extended over the pitch.

In the event of infringement of this Law by any fielder other than the wicket-keeper, the bowler’s end umpire shall call and signal No ball as soon as possible after delivery of the ball. Note, however, Law 27.3 (Position of wicket-keeper).

Short leg and silly mid off both encroaching on the pitch at the point of or shortly before the ball being bowled for each delivery for multiple overs, umpires looking straight at it but all that time doing nothing…

surprised the batsmen didn’t complain to the standing umpire I’ve a feeling they missed a trick but ridiculous to think both umpires for multiple overs can be watching the laws of the game being broken yet saying nothing.. piss poor..

New Zealand surrendered very quickly after lunch. It was like they had somewhere better to be. Jamieson and de Grandhomme really poor shots in any situation never mind trying to save a game.

New Zealand miss Williamson's leadership as much as his batting. Must be one of their worst home summers in a good while. Losing to Bangladesh means it might be their worst one ever.

I said it after the first game, don't discount South Africa turning things around. Great team performance. They need to do something about making terrible starts in series.

Yes a lot of careless play, the Jamieson shot, I’d have done better myself ffs

I’d say Pakistan vs Australia is going to end in a draw, two days play remaining

Pakistan 476/4d Australians 271/2 in reply… unless the Pakistani team run through the Aussies which in fairness is unlikely….

Do you still think they will end in a draw after today's game? Sorry not much of a cricketer and just getting into the game as a novice.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,269 ✭✭✭Gillespy

Unless something mad happens, draw is the most likely result defiantly. Only a day left with the scores almost level and still in the first innings. Even without all the lost overs to rain and bad light this game was destined for a draw given the pitch.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭cruais

So they need to complete for innings in tomorrow's game? Am I right in saying that? Pretty unrealistic then

Three will do. In this case, Australia can bat themselves into a lead and then bowl Pakistan out.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,200 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Dreadful test match in Pakistan on a dead pitch where the bat completely dominated.

Pakistan ultimately ended with 728/4 from their two innings. Their goal on the final day was to fatigue the Aussie bowlers ahead of the second test match but the Aussie pace attack bowled very little so it was all very boring.

England against the West Indies begins at 2pm. England have only won one test series in the Caribbean since 1968 and are at the weakest point in test cricket for quite some time. The Windies batting still doesn't look great but they should have enough to eek out decent scores. Jayden Seales has had an electric start to his test career so it will be interesting to see how he goes.

England are handing a debut to Alex Lees despite a modest record of just 34 in first class cricket. England without Broad and Anderson look set to play Woakes, Overton and Wood alongside Jack Leach. Hardly an attack to fear.

Root won the toss and they will bat. Woakes is lucky to get a game after being so ineffective in Australia. Leach is as well. If they won't pick Matt Parkinson, his twin brother Callum is worth a try. It would be a like for like replacement

17-2 now. Same ole, same ole for Engerland.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,413 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

I gave up on Pakistan vs Australia… morally and sportingly corrupt of the Pakistan team carrying on like that…

absolutely nothing redeemable about a sporting team having that level of total and absolute contempt for cricket fans..still, we shouldn’t be surprised it’s endemic with that lot…

England 17-2 after 4 overs… two rank bad shots and one great world class take behind the stumps by Seales and both openers are history… top of that order continues to misfire..

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Familiar start for England, Root at the crease with nothing on the board..

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,413 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

And then leaves a ball that was heading for middle and off from the second it left the bowlers grip… 27-3

that was the leave of a tail ender…

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Root out now for just 13, big wicket!

I see umpires are not bothering to call wides now,,, delivery last over you could have had two bats glued together and still not reached it… ball went through the return crease…

WI bowling well, Stokes 3 runs from 40 deliveries…

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Looks hard work for the English batsmen..

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,413 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

True, hard work watching too . Run rate 2.8 zzzzz

over rate is slow as fück… Tea and only 51 overs bowled…

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,413 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Joel Wilson the absolute useless clown, the ball misses Bairstow’s bat by at least 3 or 4 inches and that donkey gives it out. A vociferous appeal in fairness which isn’t great if that’s all umpires are going on…Overturned on review, Bairstows reaction was priceless… wide eyed amazement, I think you could read his lips to Ben Foalks…”I didn’t fuckiñg get near hitting that”…

I too would like to congratulate ul-Haq and Shafique for their maiden test centuries and the pair of them from sharing Pakistan's record opening partnership against Australia.

It nust be a long time since an Australian Test team bowled 240 overs and picked up only 4 wickets.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

Only catching bits of the test but a good England fightback let by Bairstow, he's been good since his recall in the Ashes.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭MFPM

From 48/4 to 268/6 at the close is a really good fightback by Bairstow, Foakes and Woakes. The WI struggled late on and had little impact with the new ball. England right back in the match, if they can push on to 350, they certainly won't lose the match, the WI need early wickets tomorrow.

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,413 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Yep…First session is key.. England get to lunch still batting and have around 330/340 on the board they’ll be delighted especially from 48/4… West Indian bowlers and fielders looking jaded in that last session which was surprising…

  • Registered Users Posts: 25,413 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

England ladies vs West Indies a cracker…

England need 60 from 73 chasing 226… England were cruising but for some reason chose on several occasions to go aerial when they needed way less than a run a ball… poor game management as they are 8 wickets down because of it…really not managing the game situation..

More useless umpiring, a ball is bowled to Mark Wood.. the side on replay shows that it passes Wood who was stood in an upright position throughout about two and a half feet over his head….should be a wide but no signal, Wood looks at the umpires in disbelief …How can you adjudicate on tight catches, lbws, decisions based on millimetres and centimetres if you cannot make a judgement call based on ‘feet’… bizarre… entertaining test though.
