My bad, the Tribe app was showing the Leinster game as kicking off at 5.35 not 7.35. That makes more sense.

Delighted for Deeny. Hope he is up to it! I would guess that Osborne will be announced today with Maloney.

    Is Ruddock out of contract?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,041 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

Not that he was in any danger but Foleys performance at the weekend was enough for me to be happy with a senior deal.

Good zippy pass off the base of the ruck with very little wind up

Yep need to keep him around and see if he can push on.

playing 9 regularly at AIL has helped him developed, who knew that was the secret to developing young scrumhalves.

    Foley just announced too.

Expect Joe McCarthy, Martin Moloney and Jamie Osborne to join him. Maybe they'll all be announced today?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,172 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Sexton extends his deal for another year. Just Henshaw left now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,041 ✭✭✭✭Exclamation Marc

I'm sure you could include Dev and Cronin in the rumoured to be leaving part of the table. Even Jackman on Saturday was referring to this season as both of their final seasons.

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

Joe McCarthy signed a senior contract.

Should McCarthy already be a first choice player in Leinster's strongest XV? I think he's close to it.

Some posters thought he shouldn't be playing league rugby yet because he's only 20.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,667 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

In your head Rich probably lol.

Rational people think he shouldn't be in Leinsters strongest 15 because he's played 3 games against sub European standard competition.

As is always the case with Leinster, if he's good enough he's old enough.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,556 ✭✭✭RichieRich_89

Yeah, I think I'd like the look of a Ryan/McCarthy combo, with Baird on the bench. Molony is a good option too, obviously, and, as you say, it's very early days. But he has looked so impressive.

Jamie Osborne moving up from academy.

As per RTE: Former Leinster and Australia coach Michael Cheika has been appointed coach of Argentina through to the 2023 World Cup in France, with current Leinster backs coach Felipe Contepomi set to be part of the new management ticket, according to reports.

Contepomi then to take over as head coach after the world cup.

Interesting to see who the new backs coach will be?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,172 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

I think Contepomi has done a good job with our backs. A criticism leveled at Leinster in the past was that our attack could be too rote with little invention. We've changed to a more offload focused game that places a lot of decision making responsibility onto the players. It's worked quite well in matches this season I would've liked to see us continuing to develop this style under Contepomi in the coming seasons.

I see Joe McCarthy is the new Conor O’Brien.

He’s played three games. Let him develop. There’s no point suggesting he should be in Leinster’s strongest XV for the sake of it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Must love hardship

Would Felix Jones be an option for backs coach?

    Lives in Dublin I believe.

Currently the European-based coaching consultant for south Africa.

Might be interested in getting involved with coaching more day to day?

    Noel McNamara return?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,194 ✭✭✭Must love hardship

Would be welcomed with open arms no doubt but is he even in his current role 12 months?

Richie Murphy? Or even Payne? But, Payne would probably not leave Ulster.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,914 ✭✭✭Rigor Mortis

I thought Jared had already left Ulster in January

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,920 ✭✭✭✭stephen_n

Don’t think he has left yet, just announced he will be doing so at the end of the season I think. But yes, one way or another he is definitely leaving Ulster.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,667 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

Payne has been pictured in the coaching box with Ulster recently but has confirmed he will leave.

We could do a lot worse than someone like him I think

  • Registered Users Posts: 882 ✭✭✭Lsdrugbyfan

    Isnt he going to clermont?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,667 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

From the raft of contracts announced from the academy yesterday it would appear Martin Maloney has missed out on a senior Leinster place which is a pity.

I thought he showed some good promise in the limited stuff I saw of him.

Having said that we have 8 senior back rows (7 internationals) next season the oldest of whom is 31.

Combined with Baird always as a 6 option and Soroka who still has another year in the Academy likely to be looked at as a back row going forward I guess there just wasn't room for him.

As a 7 he'd be behind Josh, Will, Dan, and Scott and as a 6 he'd be behind Rhys, Doris and probably Max too.

Not sure if there's room for him at the other provinces. Maybe he already has a deal. Hard to know.

Hope it works out for him

    Don't forget Will

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,667 ✭✭✭arsebiscuits1

How could I have?! Edited there

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,581 ✭✭✭Dubinusa

Maloney is a good player, from what I remember. I think he will go abroad, maybe L.I or Ospreys (Mike Ruddock) will sign him. Munster don't need him and he'd be behind others at the other provinces.

I'd give Soroka a development deal right now. It would be mad to lose him in a year. He is a potential international.
