A Greyhound Track liquor licence wouldn't have stayed valid when the dogs moved anyway - its a particular category of licence.

I seem to have missed this reply first time around, sorry.

Still think if you gave Jerry O'Dea (for example) the option of running it you could still make money from it.

Or, and this is a bit silly maybe, if you gave the local breweries like Treaty, Crew and JJ's the chance to supply it/run it as a support for local businesses (again with Treaty United taking a cut via rent or % of sales etc) it could be a cool little selling point. Treaty Beer watching Treaty United, the marketing writes itself...

Dulwich Hamlets done very well when they "hipstered up" a bit and invited in the craft breweries. Took advantage of the fact that non league allows beer on the terrace where as Football League doesn't.

The physical logistics of running a bar there would be simple for someone who already owns a pub and has the stock. For instance those Heineken 0 draught machines you see around can also be hooked up to real beer so you don't even need a cold room/ gas system.

God knows about the license and insurance and stuff though.

We did have beer before when Chang were sponsors.

Another debacle with the Market's Field tonight. Match called off less than an hour before kickoff, making this the third for an unplayable surface. No doubt the LEDP have serious questions to answer for the degradation of a pitch that was once an award winner while Limerick FC themselves maintained it, but surely Treaty were fully aware it wasn't going to pass inspection. It's a long journey from Longford for nothing.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,924 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Supposedly they asked for the inspection to happen earlier. They should have communicated better and told people that there's another pitch inspection happening before the game after heavy rainfall. Fans would have made their own call after the rain that had fallen today on whether to risk coming in or not.

Makes it look now that they didn't say anything so they could still make money from ticket sales. A lot of annoyed fans that would be travelling in from around the Mid West who wasted time and more importantly now fuel with the price it's at.

Feel for the lads that put a lot of hard work in getting the club up and running, developing goodwill with folks last season to then have to deal with the **** show that is the LEDP ruining the pitch just over a month before the season starts.

How many schools rugby matches were played on it in the last few months? Hardly enough to leave a pitch unplayable for a month, surely.

It might well be the LEDP's fault for not hiring competent grounds staff, or Treaty's fault for not doing likewise, depending on who is in charge of it but there's no way schools rugby would damage a well maintained pitch that much, imo.

In any event, can't see ticket sales being worth enough to generate this much bad feeling over, I'd say it's just due to run of the mill incompetence.

    Galway 2-1 Treaty

    (Curran)

Treaty were 1 down after 6 minutes and 2 down at half time, with Treaty's twitter account whining about the second goal.

Enda Curran pulled one back in the second half and it seems like we put them under some pressure, but were unable to find an equaliser.

Next game: home to Cork, Friday March 18, 3pm

Although there will be a pitch inspection tomorrow regarding that game.

    Treaty 0-4 Cork

I was only following social media updates for this one from here in Scotland, but we were 3 down after about half an hour and it looks like we never turned up at all. Seems like we had a few chances here and there, but Jack Brady had to make some good saves also to keep the score down.

Awful way to start the season at home.

Next game: home to Waterford, Friday March 25, 7.45pm.

Shocked to hear of the death of ex Limerick FC goalkeeper Freddy Hall at the age of 37. Passed away after being involved in a car accident in Bermuda.

Ah God, that's awful. Good player, God rest him.

Has a young kid too who was only born just before he returned home at the start of the 2018 season which makes it sadder.

Will always be remembered for his penalty save up in Sligo on the final day in the crazy 2015 season, and his performance up in Derry in the league cup semi final win in 2016

Yes, RIP Freddie. A super character and a great keeper too.Leaves behind such a young child as well, really tragic stuff.

    Treaty 2-3 Galway

    (George 2)

Treaty conceded 3 goals in the last 15 minutes to lose this one.

Galway had more of the ball and territory all night, but didn't do a whole lot with it in the first half. They missed one good chance early on when a player snatched a shot and fired well over from right in front of goal. Treaty took the lead when a Ludden throw in was headed back to him and he fired in a cross which Dean George glanced home at the near post. After that, there wasn't a huge amount of action in the rest of the first half.

The same Galway player missed another game early in the second half when he again snatched at a volley after a misjudged Treaty header sent him in on goal, and Treaty were 2-0 up when George poked home after an almighty scramble in the Galway box.

At 2-0 it looked like being a great night, but Galway threw on a load of giant attackers and went a lot more direct. They pulled one back with a super shot into the top corner from the edge of the box, levelled it with a free header at the far post, and won it with 2 minutes to go with a glancing header from an inswinging ball into the box.

First defeat in 7 for Treaty, and it doesn't get any easier on Monday.

Next game: away to Cork, Monday May 2nd, 5.00pm.

    Cork 3-0 Treaty

It was a tough long weekend for Treaty, as they again conceded a flurry of goals.

I was just going off updates for this, and as expected Cork had the upper hand throughout, with Treaty not creating all that much. We held out until half-time through some good saves and poor finishing, but 3 goals in 4 minutes just after the hour ended things as a contest.

We are the team not playing next weekend, so...

Next game: home versus Bray, Friday May 3, 7.45pm.

    Treaty 0-3 Cork

Treaty viewed this Munster Senior Cup semi-final as a training exercise by the sounds of it, giving playing to 4 underage players and starts to 3 senior squad players. That comes at a cost and Cork were 2-0 up after 25 minutes, and bagged another in the second half for an easy win, though by the sounds of it we pressed late in the game and missed a late penalty.

Next game: home versus Bray, Friday May 13, 7.45pm.

    Treaty 2-2 Bray

    (Curran, Lynch)

Treaty stopped a run of defeats tonight, but it could have been a win. We were 1-0 up after just 6 minutes when Enda Curran finished a cross into the box, and we were the better team in the first half, creating decent chances and having a goal ruled out for offside.

Bray came back into it in the second half and equalised from a fine low shot across Brady after a lovely pass to send the player in. It was mostly Bray at that stage, but we weathered the storm and went back ahead when Jack Lynch arrived late into the box to get on the end of a cross. His first touch put him into space and he smashed a left-foot shot past the keeper.

The lead didn't last, as a Brady punched clearance fell straight to a Bray player who lobbed him beautifully to make it 2-2. Both sides fancied their chances of getting a winner. Treaty came close when Matt Keane got in on goal but his stretched left-foot shot just cleared the crossbar, and Bray somehow failed to convert numerous chances in an almighty scramble in the Treaty box, which was the last action of the game.

Next game: home to Cobh Ramblers, Friday May 20th, 7.45pm.

    Treaty 0-0 Longford

I was only going by Twitter updates and the like for this, and it seemed to be a fairly even game with both teams creating chances. Longford hitting the crossbar early in the second half was as close as it came to a goal being scored, while Dean George had a couple of decent chances for the home side.

A point against a team above us in the table is nothing to be sniffed at.

Next game: home to Cobh Ramblers, Friday May 20th, 7.45pm.

More arrested today in relation to match fixing in Limerick and Cork. Hopefully no current players involved.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,924 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

7 of the 10 arrested were players and only 2 are still currently playing in the LOI with the others retired. I'm sure we all know who one of the retired players is.

    Treaty 2-2 Cobh Ramblers

    (Ludden 2 (2 penalties))

Was just going on updates for this one, and the updates told me that Treaty started well with Ludden putting Treaty ahead with a 6th minute penalty, but Cobh were level just 10 minutes later after Treaty's Joe Gorman put the ball into his own net.

Cobh were 2-1 up 7 minutes into the second half, but Ludden levelled things with a second penalty just a couple of minutes later. Cobh had a man sent off for a 'last man back' foul, so Treaty did most of the pressing towards the end of the game, but couldn't get the goal they needed.

Next game: away to Waterford, Friday May 27th, 7.45pm.

    Waterford 4-0 Treaty

Treaty had a decent first half, kept their shape and kept Waterford at bay fairly handily. Only a far post header from a corner forced Jack Brady into action, and he made a decent save.

5 minutes into the second half though, they converted a low cross-shot at the far post, and Treaty needed to think about a change of shape. We nearly equalised about 5 minutes later when a free into the box was headed on and Conor Melody couldn't quite finish at the far post. From that, Waterford went down the pitch and their forward got there before Brady to nick the ball away from him before cutting back for a finish into an empty net. Treaty were just starting to push forward for the first time when they were caught on the break and it was 3-0 and game over. The game petered out then, as Waterford took their foot off the gas and Treaty were out of ideas, although Waterford added a fourth in injury time with a goal from a corner.

Not the way we wanted to go into the mid-season break.

Next game: away to Wexford, Friday June 10th, 7.45pm.

It may not be how we wanted to go into the mid-season break but the break is badly needed all the same. It's so tight in the middle of the table. 7 draws out of 16 games tells its own story.

As an aside, is anyone else a bit disappointed at how Treaty are marketing the games? It would merit a separate thread I suppose but I don't get the feeling the casual football fan is being drawn up to the games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,713 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

The casual football fan does and only ever did give a fk about Man United and Liverpool etc. It's all over the league and not just a Treaty thing.

Other problem is the amount of clashes right now. I have hardly been to a game this year because I go to all the Limerick hurling games and I'm sure there are rugby fans the same. Hopefully it picks up come mid June.

    Wexford 1-1 Treaty

    (George)

Completely forgot to write an update for this. Treaty's winless streak is extended to 8 matches (since we beat Wexford last time round), as despite taking a very early lead through an excellent Dean George run and finish from the edge of the area, Wexford equalised a couple of minutes later.

If anything, it seemed that Wexford had more of the game, especially as the second half wore on, but it finished level, and we remain in the final playoff spot (5th in a 9-team division!).

Next game: home to Athlone, Friday June 17th, 7.45pm.

    Treaty 2-1 Athlone

    (George, Lynch)

Treaty back to winning ways at last with a victory agsinst bottom-of-the-table Athlone last night.

We were 1 up when Dean George glanced in a long Ludden throw, and it was 2-0 just minutes later when, after being awarded a free kick, Jack Lynch spotted the keeper off his line and scored from all of 45 yards as the keeper misread what Lynch was doing and then couldn't get back in time.

Athlone pulled one back midway through the first half, but Treaty were on top for most of the match, had a goal disallowed for offside, and could have had another goal or two, although Athlone had their chances as well.

Next match: away to Galway, Friday June 24th, 7.45pm.
