No time to actually listen to any of these today so will get stuck in tomorrow. Also confirmed we'll be getting The UK tomorrow also, with most expecting that it'll be Sam Ryder with Space Man. If it is him then I think it's actually a decent pick and The UK's strongest entry for years, although not that the bar has been very high either.

Switzerland: Hmmmm.....this could go either way. It's not a bad song but it does sound somewhat like the kind of song that would play over a John Lewis Christmas ad. He has a great voice for sure, but they will need to accentuate that to its fullest extent for this to succeed at ESC.

Georgia: LOL, I have no idea how this will do! Georgia is always among the most interesting countries at Eurovision, no matter what they send, and this one could either greatly exceed expectations and safely qualify, or it will come dead last...I have no idea. Either way, it's a fun entry and I'd like to see it do well; my main concern is that it sounds a bit like a demo, and it's the kind of song that needs a build up and longer duration than three minutes.

Cyprus: It's perfectly pleasant (and very nice to hear the Greek language again) but not a competitive entry. Still, a nice change of pace from Cyprus given their recent entries.

Belgium: Not my cup of tea but objectively it's not bad. Could do well, depending on how good the live vocal is.

I'd imagine it's a cert to win the public vote but it's a fairly rubbish song so I'd question how well it'll do with the juries. Placing a big wager on it is a slight risk in my opinion and for me there's no value in 2/1.

Personally I'd wait for Italy to drift and then back them as they're likely to do well with both public and jury I reckon.

I am not sure who I will place my wee bet on I have a decent chunk of money (well 120 euro) from betting on that's rich to win the Irish final this year. I fancy Czech rep top 10 if odds are decent.

Greece is quite decent. Could do well for them.

Austria seems to have been well-received but I don't like it at all. Sounds really dated to me, and very repetitive. Plus it's one that's gonna be tricky to stage and the live vocal could be a disaster.

I'm not sure what to make of the UK yet. He seems to be a great singer, and in that sense it is a step up for them, but the song doesn't do much for me. Again, "dated" is the word to come to mind. But at least it won't be another double zero for them.

I wouldn't rule out Italy winning at all, their song is one of the standouts in a fairly weak year and they've got an excellent pair of singers.

There's zero chance it'll get cancelled imo, unless an actual WW3 breaks out

Greece is my bet at the prices. Ukraine are getting large chunk of popular vote no matter what happens so to beat them you'll need a great jury result.

Ireland are too late with this song as usual after Netta and then Malta last year. We did something similar with a club song way after Euphoria had won.

No. They didn't cancel it in the '70s at the height of the Troubles in the North when there was a huge death toll and bombs were going off here and in Britain as well, or during the war in the former Yugoslavia in the '90s when genocide on a massive scale was happening. Unless it breaks out into a wider European war I'd say Eurovision is safe.

And now to finally add my thoughts on the weeks selections:

Switzerland: I think this is actually quite decent, and will do better than the somewhat muted reaction suggests it will. Should qualify easily enough, but certanly won't be reaching the heights of Luca Hanni or Gjon's Tears.

Belgium: This is good but not great I think, maybe a top ten contender. I agree with some of the Labrinth comparisons, this could've easily slotted into the soundtrack of Euphoria. Qualification from the more competitive second semi-final should be relatively straightforward.

Georgia: Not really sure what to make of this? Especially since we've no live performance or even a video to go on. Overall I think this is gonna be too polarising to garner any kind of solid support and will probably be staying in the SF's.

Cyprus: Well at least they've seemingly moved on from trying to recreate Fuego again. Unfortunately Ela is a standard fare ethno-pop song that is, bar Fuego-esque staging, far too lightweight to challenge at the top. Could qualify, but I can't see it finishing much higher than about 20th

UK: I like it! I think this is the strongest song the UK have sent for years, although that is admittedly a pretty poor measuring stick. It's definitely overrated in the bookmaker odds, but if he sings the hell out of it coupled with great staging he can possibly finish in the 8-10th range.

Greece: Not sure that a song called Die Together is what anyone needs in a still-ongoing pandemic and with war having broken out in Europe 😬Overall though I think this is decent and will sail through from the much weaker first semi final. Surprised this is currently the 5th favourite to win though, I think 6th-10th is its peak range.

Austria: The exact kind of throwaway EDM that you'd have found on one of those Clubland compilations, staging will make or break this. A possible qualifier, but not much else to say about it right now.

Hoping they make the right decision and send Cornelia! I actually think Hold Me Closer will likely win the whole thing if it's sent, nothing else has emerged in the last few weeks, and a possible sympathy vote for Stefania will only take it so far.

The general consensus seems to be that the Swedish televote will vote for Anders, which I don't understand, but I imagine the juries will do their jobs and get Cornelia through thankfully. There's also an Irish international jury tonight, I wonder who our spokesperson will be.

That is definitely Sweden's strongest entry since 'Heroes', imo. I just love her voice. There's a strong chance this will be the year thar Sweden finally equals Ireland's record of 7 wins, which may be the kick up the arse RTÉ needs to take Ireland's selection up a level (one can dream!)

I think this is very nice. It's great to have some indie-folk and the lovely Icelandic language, but it's hard to tell how it will do at Eurovision. It could stand out strongly as something different (like the Common Linnets) or it might just get lost in the shuffle (à la Latvia 2019). Am hoping it does well though.

All three songs chosen tonight have gone straight into my top ten. This Eurovision was looking like a weak year but the later reveals have really brought it to life imo.

I was quietly confident after the Late Late Euro Song that we could break our 2 contest streak of coming last in the Semi Finals and actually make it the final. After hearing some of the songs, my god it makes our song look incredibly amateurish. I can see why we are currently 2nd last in the odds. If Sweden don't win this year they will certainly win soon and then we can't trot out the old we are the greatest as we won the most contests. I doubt that will spur us to try harder though.

Unless there is a major escalation into World War 3, I think the Eurovision will continue as planned. Eurovision has only ever been cancelled once. Wasn't cancelled while the Bosnian war was going on.

Iceland: It's... alright? Just plods along aimlessly I think. Quite the comedown after two years of Dadi Freyr. Could qualify from the weak first semi final though.

Portugal: Much the same as Iceland to be honest, there's little for me to get excited about here. I wouldn't rule out qualification.

New Maltese song: I actually kinda like this! Head and tails above they originally sent, although not that that would've been hard. Gives me some Dotter 'Little Tot' vibes, which makes some sense I guess as Dotter provides backing vocals on the song.

Also, since Homer J Fong didn't want to post the Israel revamp I thought I'd do the honours 😛

Qualifier Predictions;

SF1 - Only certs to qualify are Norway, Greece, Netherlands & Ukraine (if they're able to take part). Austria will get in if their live performance is strong. Albania & Moldova have a habit of sneaking in against expectations so I'll count them in. Of the plethora of female ballads in the 2nd half I think Armenia is the strongest so I'll also count them in. After that, it's anyone's. Switzerland is quite boring but it is the only male ballad in this semi final so will stand out. Lithuania mostly qualify but they are going to suffer without Ireland & the UK voting in their SF. Latvia will likely be buried by the juries but may do well enough on the televote. Everyone seems to hate Bulgaria but I don't think it is as bad as the fandom makes out. Portugal seems to be a bit of a dark horse.

Prediction: GRE, NED, NOR, UKR, AUT, ALB, MOL, ARM, POR, LAT/LIT

SF2 - Only dead certs are Sweden & Poland. Cyprus, Belgium & Estonia likely to qualify too. Then it gets tricky. Australia & Azerbaijan are both in the first half & could could potentially cancel each other out. They will also suffer with Poland in the second half hoovering up the male power ballad vote. Of the 2 'YAS QUEEN' entries, Israel & Romania, I feel Romania has the stronger chance of progression. San Marino could be viewed a a Maneskin ripoff, which would be unfair, but could happen. Finland will likely qualify but may be seen as a bit dated. Georgia & Serbia are tough ones to predict how they'll be interpreted by juries and viewers. I feel Serbia's message could be lost and people will wonder why this mad woman is washing her hands repeatedly. Czech Republic is a good dance entry so will stand out. Montenegro & North Macedonia don't have great qualification records and could suffer being in the same half as Sweden. Then we come to Ireland. Reading comments on here it seems it is a bit marmite. I think it could be either Sarah McTernan 2.0 or potentially, with eye-catching staging, she could pull a Jedward 2011.

Prediction: POL, SWE, CYP, BEL, EST, ROM, CZE, FIN, SER, AZE/AUS

I wouldn't say so. I think they'll get pushed up the table a bit but can't see them winning. Juries account for 50% of the vote, if the juries do their jobs then I doubt this would even make the jury top ten.

Moldova - Never let you down.

Israel - I could eat my ice cream to it.

Estonia - Strong ‘Hey Brother’ by Avicii ‘vibes’, as the kids say.

Lithunania - Found myself singing ‘Live Is Life’ by Opus over the top (contemporary pop culture reference there).

Latvia - Didn’t Iceland release that last year?

Montenegro - Toilet/Put The Bins Out break.

Serbia - The ‘Daily Mail Sidebar Of Shame’ song.

Croatia - I tapped my foot.

Norway - I tried to fit an entire banana in my mouth.

This is an incredibly weak SF, so there's quite a few cancelling each other out and could go either way. I had Lithuania and Portugal in ahead of Iceland and Austria originally but changed upon watching a recap video. Lithuania is terrible, I'm not sure even the juries are getting behind that, and as mentioned above they'll be down 24 points as Ireland/UK can't vote here. I think Iceland and Portugal are tapping into the same market and only one will make it through, but Iceland is more of an ear-worm so I reckon they'll make it in. A lot could change as always when we see how they'll be staged. Also keep in mind that an extra spot may become available if Ukraine aren't able to enter after all.
