Russell gone fastest now, not that anyone should be surprised with the Merc being quick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,349 ✭✭✭McFly85

Whatever about Mercedes usual shenanigans, it’s fantastic to see the Ferraris back in the mix

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,990 ✭✭✭Cool_CM

Mercedes in the mix here - it's going to be interesting to see how much everybody has been holding back come qualifying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,282 ✭✭✭PsychoPete

It's nice to see them at the front, hopefully some poles and wins coming their way. When I started watching F1 as a kid I was obsessed with Ferrari and Schumacher, love to ser them back fighting for championships

Verstappen can still go second quicker going by testing times. Still think Mercedes are about 6 to 8 tenths behind. Ferrari very close with Red Bull. Mclaren nowhere near the top half.

Graphics on screen not working all the way through P3

"Well, seems to me Martin that drivers can make a difference, and while Redbull still have the best car - the margin that we've seen here isn't quite as large. So that might put a bit of pressure on Verstappen and Perez"

Is Crofty ignoring the fact that Verstappen is World Champion? He could make a case about Perez with the quote above.

I would take that Grid if it comes from Qualification , Top Three teams almost on par , Redbull car just looks like there is loads left in it . but that would be a nice mix and battle into the first turn

Nice job from Kevin Mag .

    Very interesting P3

Mercs have found their speed although Russell is still bobbing around too much, Hamilton seems to have fixed the problem.

Ferraris 'are back' in contention too and even Haas are showing some speed.

    Bring on 3 O'Clock

McLaren are nowhere, surprised by that.

In hindsight, maybe that dodgy FIA business/Covid happened at the right time and let them concentrate a bit more on this year. I really hope that it all works out!

Hamilton had DRS open so the porpoising effect wasn't as bad as yesterday when DRS was closed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭Joeface

even with it closed on the last run he did down the start finish straight it was there but no where near as bad .

    still behind Redbull and Ferrari

I'd agree, I used to support Ferrari and RedBull but over the last few years I don't really care who wins once its good racing and close championships. Would love to see 3 or 4 teams in the mix for the constructors

Okay here we go. Good to be back for the first qualifying session because yes testing is great and free practices are a step up. Qualifying is when they start sucking diesel.

First qualifying of the season. Woohoo!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,698 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

yes one in particular that didn’t work in Melbourne which was a farce.

What's the craic with the times???

No lap times shown on the graphic??

    Ah there they are

Annoying isn't it - doesn't even look to be room for them as in not a glitch.

That McClaren looks visually wonderful - although I think it will struggle to look good in the times.

    Ferrari powered cars are flying.

Great to see the Ferraris going so well too. Merc's are a little behind. This could be an epic session.

Thought the Mclaren looked absolutely visually woeful in every shot I’d seen so far, but it looks great on track.

This is brilliant! I didn’t expect Hamilton to be faster than Russel.

    Fair play to Bottas!

This is looking very exciting indeed. Come on Ferrari! 😍

Not a surprise to see Williams at the back but Mclaren really struggling for pace

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 487 ✭✭BikeRacer

K-Mag just 0.001 off Hamilton in a Haas. Great stuff from them.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 33,993 CMod ✭✭✭✭ShamoBuc

Yeah, under lights they tend to look a little different, Ferrari looks a much deeper colour under lights but a real racing red in daylight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,294 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

    George’s Mercedes is still bouncing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,287 ✭✭✭✭Jordan 199

I was looking for what position Vettel was in. #morto.

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

The Merc’s look quick in the middle of the lap. Just are losing loads of time down the straights.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,379 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

    McLaren looks dreadful out there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,611 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Yes, Sony TV and surround sound system for full effect 👍

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,287 ✭✭✭✭Jordan 199

A right stinker of qualifying for Aston.

    Bottas ahead of both Mercs...

  • Site Banned Posts: 12,341 ✭✭✭✭Faugheen

Outside of the Ferrari’s and Max, I don’t know what that top 10 shootout is going to look like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,698 ✭✭✭✭Itssoeasy

    The McLarens look rough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,379 ✭✭✭✭namloc1980

Aston Martin very poor too 17th and 19th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,648 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

The mercedes powered teams have had stinkers here - normally straight line speed is a usp for them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 516 ✭✭✭Lawlesz

That's so poor from Ricciardo again, wow.

Great showing from both Haas drivers, I can see them mvojg8uo the grid a couple of places this year, that Ferrari engine looks a beast.

Mercs despite all their troubles still in the mix

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 747 ✭✭✭ricimaki

Well Q1 was interesting! We could have several teams fighting towards the top of Q3

McClaren and Aston Martin - will not be the slightest bit happy.

Bottas ....would absolutely love if he finished above the Mercs.
