Will crazy old bat radio stations still exist in 20 years?

The auld wan type radio stations like Shannonside which pipe out Richie Kavanagh, Brendan Shine and the likes ad nauseum in between the death notices. So i'm thinking that their listenership will die out, but the new-old peeps won't tune in?

On another note, do you think old people will be playing Mario Kart and the likes in nursing homes of the future, just remove the statue of Jesus to make room?

They’ll be around alright. They’ll just be playing the “forgotten favourites” of S Club 7 and Atomic Kitten.

Someone who is 60 now has a life expectancy of around 20 years. Plenty of people aged 60 and younger in rural areas who still listen to these stations. Yeah these stations will still be around in 20 years.

In 20 years every nursing home will have a xbox or a ps6, or some 5 year old gaming consoles as almost everyone under 40 plays games, also theres loads of free to play games ,games like warzone, have new content every 6 months.or they,ll have switch consoles or whatever nintendo releases in 2042.FM radio will exist, the classic hits stations, will be playing lady gaga, dua lips, ariana grande.if you look at digital streaming, right now older music, classic hits, queen,the eagles, creedence clearwater, elton john, is more listened to the the latest top 50 songs in the billboard usa charts.If you go to total time listened per track.

sunshine dublin will still be playing the same 300 songs on rotation in 20 years .i think it would make a great tv comedy ,the life of a dj, playing old hits from brendan shine,daniel o,donnell, kenny rogers, in some small local radio station, eg radio clare , average age of listener is 55.

he thinks he,s cool,cos he knows how to work an ipod, and he buys most of his cds from the local charity shop for 50 cent.Alan partridge with a kerry accent.

Local and regional radio is massively popular. Yes, folk get up and listen to Morning Ireland and making their tea of an evening they will listen to Sarah and Cormac, but all during the day it's local radio playing in the kitchens and shops and cars all over Ireland.

Considering 20 years is not very far away, I'd say it'll definitely be around. The broadcast medium might be very different and it may be consumed in different chunks, but a local voice with local interest for local feedback and a bit of harmless easy listening in between is the bedrock on which this Country is built!

Oh god yes don't get me started on that GAA commentator (Pat...Phelan i think?) with his "Oh i thought it was a goal but he's put it wide there". Knows nothing about the opposition players. Just calls them all "Armagh player" or whatever county that's there.

Anyway, the folks keep it on to stop the dogs from getting lonely when they're out. I can't see another purpose for it TBH.

Probably they won't exist in 20 years, as their audience has passed away and the listening habits of the younger generation changed.

It's a bit like BBC Radio 4 in the UK, whose audience is getting older and older, and the younger ones who are interested in news prefer the format of BBC Radio 5 Live.

The audience didn't arrived out of the sky at whatever age group they are (or people assume they are). So plenty more will reach that age group in future, and they could just as easily develop a liking for the existing tried and tested format.
