That pro Russian guy just engages in what aboutism for the entire podcast

Just listening now. I saw the title said it was about Golfgate and assumed he'd have Aoife Moore or Paul Hosford on, as it was their story that broke this. Mick Clifford instead, but that's okay - he's usually good. But it's obvious that their pals were involved here (they namechecked specifically Sean O'Rourke and Donie Cassidy on a number of occasions) and it's weird how they try to differentiate between the carry on of Golfgate and Boris (similarish times, similar issues of the "one rule for us, one rule for them" view).

Dunphy is a hypocrite all over place so dont pretend to be surprised when a hypocrite is a hypocrite

I listen to hear what the left wing loonies are spouting. But arent all left wing loonies hypoctrites just happens that one of Dunphys hypocrites regards golfgate

    Champagne socialist at his best

As for Ryan...he is some dose.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,401 ✭✭✭McGrath5

Listening to the Golfgate episode now, one of Eamon's worst. Sniggering when he said the PDs "imploded" and no "Shinner" present. Wait for the next episode with Chris Johns and he will lay into Boris for his misgivings.

Have really gone off this podcast and I used to be a regular enough listener and barely listen anymore

    "It's just not showbiz, baby"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,450 ✭✭✭JoeA3

I think he needs to mix it up a bit. Give the Tomas Ryan / Brexit / Biden endless repetition a rest or at least add something new in there to freshen it up...

I remember when he started this, it was mainly a series of 1-1 interviews with well known sports people, politicians etc, and I thought a lot of those were very good. He rarely does that now. Granted a lot of them were people he had on speed dial (Giles, Brady, Souness, etc), but I think he’s at his best when doing those extended 1-1 conversations.

We're going to have to get an update from Tomas 'The Ryan Project' Ryan soon. Surely there's a Long Covid angle that could scare people back indoors for another year Eamo.

That "data journalist" (who failed to mention data quality even once!) did not ramp up the fear levels nearly enough.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,332 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

Dunphy seems to think it’s viable Russia attacks Poland nevermind ukraine. A bit fanciful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,395 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Eamo had Paul Moynagh on yesterday who in fairness has been fairly level headed in all his appearances. Tomas Ryan seems to have temporarily disappeared into the ether. Probably saving him for the appearance of the next variant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,666 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

Paul Moynagh is great. Very balanced and informative.

Yeah I listened to that one too and found it very good... quite educational actually in terms of how he explained antibodies versus T-cells in simple enough lay man terms.

Eamon tried early on to to steer him down the hysteria route re mask wearing and the speed of easing of restrictions but Moynagh kept his replies very matter-of-fact, informative and balanced.

Great podcast with Eamon McCann on his memory of Bloody Sunday and in particular the background to it, it's effect on nationalism in the North and the UK cover up/whitewash.

I'd disagree with McCann and indeed Billy Hutchinson (Dunphy's loyalist commentator) on a lot but I fine the two of them brilliant contributors

  • Registered Users Posts: 568 ✭✭✭72sheep

It's now nearly a month since Tomas Ryan last publicly petrified Eamo on the podcast. There's a risk Eamo might regain sight of his old self, and that would be a totally unacceptable state of affairs. All these Boris/FAI/Taiwan episodes are nothing more than a smokescreen, surely this type carry-on simply cannot be allowed to continue!

Come on you are Eamons booker...

We need to get used to omicron TWO to THREE times a year

    He is a dose

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,887 ✭✭✭Deeper Blue

So Tomas Ryan disagrees with Anthony Fauci (sure what would he know?) about the potential of antivirals in managing Covid going forward.

And what's Tomas' solution you may ask?

    More testing!

He also started going on about how long Covid causes memory loss. And of course just like the time he claimed covid caused autism in unborn children, he had zero evidence to back up his theory. The guy is a disgrace.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,450 ✭✭✭JoeA3

I thought he had gone away... I don't know if anyone cares anymore Tomas.

  • Registered Users Posts: 568 ✭✭✭72sheep

I know I know, just unbelievable luck. And that episode did not fail to deliver on any level either. High entertainment; it's all showbiz (baby) for Eamo's ad sales anyhow.

As said before, can you o.n.l.y imagine being acquainted with Tomas ;-)

"Omnicron isn't much less severe than Delta. If you look at the unvaccinated population about 7% need hospitalisation with Omnicron it's 2.5%."

So a factor of almost 3 Tom??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭lee_baby_simms

Certain types of misinformation is acceptable.

Lets not forget that in August 2020 Tomas extrapolated the worst possible numbers he could find to come up with a prediction that 104 children would die of covid as a result of schools opening the following month. He then asked Eamonn “how many children died during the troubles.”

Tomas cherry picks data and frames it in such a way based on a clear personal agenda and dresses this nonsense up as science.

Someone will surely come on and defend Tomas Ryan now "but he was right once a year and a half ago about something"

Overall Tomas Ryan is best summed up imo as a Doctor Doom wannabe who actually seemed disappointed that things didn't get as bad as he hoped.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 670 ✭✭✭fm

Ryan can't go to out because his kids haven't had their second vaccination, what a load of shite. And Eamo and the team haven't got covid because on Ryan's guidance,an even bigger load of shite, Eamonn is still loving the doom unfortunately and his show is not worth listening to anymore.

I listen to it as a bizarre form of comedy at this stage

    It is **** HILARIOUS

Kind of like modern day Jerry Springer but none of them are in on the joke

  • Registered Users Posts: 13 HeavyLift

The guy talks too slow for me.

    Just spit it out Eamo.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

What's up with the sound mixing recently? In the middle of an interview there is suddenly dead air for a few seconds before the interview suddenly kicks on again. I am often reaching for the phone to check if it has paused somehow only for the audio to kick bag in.

  • Registered Users Posts: 568 ✭✭✭72sheep

Can't see Tomas Ryan's pride allowing for him to be perceived as fading into the background. Seeing as I called it right last time, I'm going to predict he boldly returns to his regular two week cadence - so that means a new episode this week!! What's more I'm predicting The Ryan Project will have a truly terrifying tale to tell that will shake Eamo (yes, Yes, YES) to his very core. Exciting ;-)

Sure last week they were talking about the Heineken Cup games being superspreader events as if it was April 2020.

Assuming Eamon has control over who the guests are I can't see Ryan going away anytime soon.

It’s embarrassing stuff, the pure definition of confirmation bias.

Bryan MacDonald has been very notable by his absence even though you'd think that it would be obvious to have him on regularly at the moment due to high interest value - he hasn't been on since January 6 as far as I can see.

Maybe he has decided to keep schtum on Vlad's latest escapades in terms of outside protestations and stick to the local propaganda drive which probably provides plenty of work to get through right now.

Nobody would really fancy a mug of Putonium's Gold Blend Special.

The bould bryan has come out on Twitter to say that he got it aresways in relation to Ukraine though.

Eamo definitely wearing his FF pyjamas today in the last podcast.

You can tell her really admires Michael Martin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,473 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Dunphy has been quite good with the frequency of podcasts this week, interesting guests too.

I'm glad for him he has new sponsors, but by God are his sponsor reads long...

  • Registered Users Posts: 568 ✭✭✭72sheep

Ok this is ridiculous, where has The Ryan Project disappeared to?!?

Never mind that war in Ukraine, last we heard from Tomas there are still multiple threat environments in Eire within which he did not feel safe. Does a war abroad neutralise the deadly threat that Covid presents? Adding flags to your Twitter profile (yay, smiley face!) is simply not good enough. Very poor form indeed. Eamo please fix.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,440 ✭✭✭Still Ill

I see Bryan MacDonald has gone silent on Twitter. I wonder has he quit RT like I saw a few others did.

  • Registered Users Posts: 568 ✭✭✭72sheep

The Indo today calling for more mask wearing and hospital numbers are increasing for "Covid cases". Eamo has already forewarned us that Omicron is certainly not just the flu, the threat from long Covid is real, there are still multiple unsafe environments... Eamo has championed the "consistent voice throughout the pandemic, who indeed saved the lives of The Stand team" and that is...[drum roll]... The Ryan Project.

Eamo, we need guidance now in these darkest of times, but why oh why has Tomas forsaken us so?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,395 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Tomas Ryan is back! And this time he's got Covid. From the Dart.

Eamo didn't even ask him how he was. So presumably he's grand.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,787 ✭✭✭I see sheep

Maybe him getting Covid, having a sniffle for a few days then being fine will make him less a zealot about it.

Utopia, you really should have prefaced that with a spoiler alert. However I expect excitement got the better of you - Tomas pushing through the public safety boundaries with treacherous expeditions on public transport - dear god I hope it was a southside Dart. I'm confident The Ryan Project, as a youngish man, will silently endure Covid with grace and dignity. Eamo, thank you for bringing us the future heroes our country deserves ;-)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,328 ✭✭✭Banana Republic 1

Was listening Tom Callanin and Eamon was in mid sentence and adds cut in. There a sort of amateur hour feel to the podcast now, others podcasters have control where adds are placed or at least work around them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,450 ✭✭✭JoeA3

I've noticed this with other podcasts too. Newstalk / Off-the-ball particularly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,666 ✭✭✭✭Arghus

I think the podcast has gone stale recently, the same guests saying the same things.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,450 ✭✭✭JoeA3

I don't think its recent... its been like this for quite a while! I'm listening to the episodes less and less, even the soccer ones which I used to love, are way too repetitive... he needs new voices with different perspectives.

Not to pick on the easy target again, but really, what more can Tomas Ryan tell us that he hasn't done already? He's just banging the same drum over and over. Maybe I'm wide of the mark but I don't think there's much appetite out there anymore for whatever message he's trying to deliver. I get the impression Tomas is mad as hell with the general populace who aren't as preoccupied with Covid as he still very clearly is. The media *in general* aren't interested anymore, NPHET have closed down, Tony has just bowed out too. Time to move on Tomas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭lee_baby_simms

I don’t listen to him these days but has it not always been this way? Eamon only has his friends on. When has there ever been any kind of debate or argument on his podcast apart from a very rare and infamous John Waters fiasco?

Every guest is someone who either Eamon is friends with or who he has prescreened and he’s happy to let them disseminate an opinion without any challenge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5 wendaluis

    🙄

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,395 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

I think it would benefit from occasionally having two guests on so the other could offer a different perspective. Like he allows Tomas Ryan for example pretty much free reign to put across his own particular ideology. With zero challenge. I know that's how Eamo likes to do it. To allow guests to spout off almost unchallenged. But it gets a bit tedious after a while.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,785 ✭✭✭gypsy79

Your assuming Eamo wants a debate....its a left wing diatribe. I listen to hear how nuts they are

And anyone who takes anything Eamo or John Giles says about modern football needs head tested. Dinosaurs

Very bleak outlook from Paul Sommerville. I don't fully understand his point. Anything but the bond market is too unstable to invest in and will lead to a bust?
