Very shocking and sudden news, saw Foo Fighters in 2019, he was a real powerhouse, if the band continues they will have some job replacing him.

Just happened across this while scanning the bbc website literally just seconds ago. Right after Mark Lanegan as well. Awful, just awful.

Very sad. We have to wait and see what happened

It must have been sudden as they were in the middle of a tour.

That's a big shock, he was some talented lad and very well respected.

    RIP

That is a shocker. Thought those guys would go on forever. Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of people are dying prematurely lately?

    Crazy. RIP.

Never phoned it in, loved every minute of being a rock star,

Normally if it is something like a private battle with cancer, the statement would say so. I really hope not, but it could be suicide.

Seen them many times and they never disappoint. Taylor's Queen covers were always a highlight.

Huge loss to the music world.

Devastated! I only said to my sister last week that they are one band I would see countless times. Taylor really gave it everything up there.

    RIP

Always looked like he enjoyed every second of it, very sad news at a very young age too. One of my favourite bands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 455 ✭✭KieferFan69

These celebs come and go, very sad but who will even remember. Best wishes to his family, we are supposing it is drugs so they will need it, lot of religious fanaticism in u items states

Just wondering was this the booster? Thoughts

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,760 ✭✭✭Effects

A lot of people will remember him. People like you get forgotten.

Due to his age, supposing he had no other complaints, most likely he received the booster at start of year, maybe as late as February

a wealthy rock star, id say he was one of the first in line, well ahead of you and me anyway!

Can we keep Covid out of this. I'm willing to bet there's a 99.9999999999999% chance that this is nothing to do with the booster.

Good point, or maybe he had doubts and waited till he felt sure

    Yawn!

Very sad news, what a superb drummer he was. I like the Foo’s but never enough to go see them live. However, I did see Taylor perform at that rubbish ‘drummers of Slane’ thing back in ‘03; he was very much the standout on the night while the rest of the guys were completely phoning it in (including Chad Smith)…me and my mate left after less than an hour and headed back to the pub!

Thoughts with his Wife & 3 kids.

Any chance you could suppress your ghoulish entirely speculative nonsense that have no basis in fact?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,401 ✭✭✭AyeGer

That is likely to lead to speculation whether true or not.

Couldn't really believe it when I read the news this morning. Foo Fighters felt like they'd go forever. He was a fantastic drummer and musician, had some very interesting side projects aswell. 25 years in Foo fighters you would forget he joined Alanis Morissette to tour Jagged Little Pill in the 90s. He will be fondly remembered through the music of Foo Fighters

Sad stuff this, saw them a few times over the years and he really stood out in their live performances.

Tragic stuff for his family and friends. God rest.

Very sad news today, Taylor seemed to love what he did. One of my favorite bands but never got to see them live. Had tickets for the RDS in 2019 but gave them away as I decided to prioritize something else. I regretted it afterwards, even more so now.

    Very sad RIP

One of the best modern day drummers and his talents will be massively missed

Saw Foo Fighters twice and what a show it was. Hawkins very impressive both on drums and vocals

I do think the band will continue but it will very hard on them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭pah

I, for one will remember. You seem like a bit of a gowl though so I don't think I'll remember you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭pah

What does that mean? Is there an assassin nicknamed "the booster" going around taking people out? Why don't you keep your conspiracy shite in your own threads FFS.

It's a special type of person who decides that they want to be a troll on the internet to get the attention that they are so obviously unable to get off people in real life.

It's an even more special type of person who would go onto an RIP thread the day of the man's death to do so.

You have gotten our attention. Hope you enjoyed it. Now **** off.

In a statement following an initial forensic examination, the Colombian Attorney General’s Office said a preliminary urine toxicology test indicated the presence of 10 different substances, including marijuana, antidepressants and opioids.

Wife and 3 kids left behind.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,381 ✭✭✭Yurt2

Very sad. A real shirt-off hammering the skins drummer in the ultimate feel-good live rock and roll band.

Foos are one of those acts that never dissapppoint live. Give them a field or stadium and some speaker stacks and you're garunteed everyone goes home happy after seeing them.

Someone else mentioned Mark Lanegan. Another talented artist from the same era whose hard living tragically caught up with him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,401 ✭✭✭AyeGer

That’s a crazy amount of drugs. Wife and 3 kids at home though very sad on them.

What exactly does opioids mean though. I've taken some nurofen plus this morning to help with the hangover, a toxicology report would probably say I have opioids in my system now. A bit of weed is hardly going to cause heart issues either.

I was a huge Foo Fighters fan back when I was a teenager, saw them live maybe 5 times from 2000-2005 or so. Kind of went off them after that but did go to their Slane show in 2015 I think and they didn't disappoint. I had definitely envisaged them still playing shows until they got seriously old but I think they might call it a day after this, Taylor was a pretty integral part of the band and shows.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,062 ✭✭✭Hobgoblin11

thats a lot of drugs to be in ones system but many people have issues that would lead to such drug use and dont die at 50, must have been some underlying issues

Yeah I'm with Royale on this one. Taylor had said in interviews he wasn't about that sort of life anymore. So I don't think he was taking part in anything sordid, Something must have happened. Obviously he can change his mind but from reading Dave's book I just don't think it's that

Edit: hadn't looked at the news yet..so I'm obviously wrong..if what the media is saying is correct that the foos have confirmed it 😔

My wife commented recently about how thin in the face he'd become, I certainly agreed with her. Did look like he'd lost a bit of weight.

On the drugs given he wasn't a very young guy and his job he could easily have back pain or something from years of playing and not looking after injuries.
