No never..asking for such a big deposit?

My deposit roughly 20% which is plenty to start with.

And no quoting them either, sorry @MAULBROOK.

I can't edit quotes so had to cull your post too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,469 ✭✭✭MAULBROOK

The was a pure mistake and definitely not intended.

Oh aye I know, I was just letting you know why I culled it. Not because you had sinned, but a flaw in the boards software, or my understanding of it.

    Hi,

    I got the following:

    16 PANELS 370 WATT 5.92KW.JA SOLAR

    5KW .BATTERY PURE DRIVE

    5KW.SOLIS HYBRID INVERTER.

    EDDI WATER DIVERTER.

    WI FI .DONGLE

    PRICE11900 EUROS INC.VAT.

GRANT 2400 EUROS APPLY TO SEAI.

    TOTAL 9500 EUROS.

Seems a bit over the formula but are prices just that bit higher now? I don't think I need the diverter, I've a smart immersion so can turn on manually if I need hot water, we don't use that much as have a power shower and dishwasher.

EDIT: if I remove Eddi it takes €300 off, upgrade to 6k inv. extra €400.

BER not included, what's the BER ballpark?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,469 ✭✭✭MAULBROOK

Definitely upgrade the inverter. The eddi can be fitted at a later date, DIY job.

Cool thanks. I was told there no longer a need for a BER to get the grant, is that the case do you know?

Na ya still need one done. Its a SEAI thing. It looks good on a pie chart for them.

    System size: 2.64 KWp

    Panels: 440w x 6

    Solis Inverter: (included)

Eddi power diverter for water heater: (included)

    BER: (included)

    Cost: €6850 (VAT included)

Less solar panel grant: - €2280 (full grant of €2400 only applies if 4kwp)

    Total cost after grant: €4570

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭bullit_dodger

The quote isn't too bad - maybe a few €300-500 or so over the odds, but nothing outrageous.

    Couple of thoughts.

    a) Have you considered solar as a service? You don't pay anything down and it's about 20-30 a month and at the end of 10 years you own the system. Some of the lads here can speak better about them than I, but smaller systems like yours are ideal for it.

    b) It's a pretty small system your going for there. Most houses would need 4-5Kwp to make a serious dent into their electric bills. That's not to say that you shouldn't go for that size, but it's on the low side. Yes, large systems are more money , but you get better "economies to scale" with larger systems, meaning that your payback timeline to break even is shorter paradoxically . (It does depend a little on your consumption though)

Grant is overestimated by 300 I believe. Should only be €1980 I think if a 2.64 KWp system

    Hi,

Been looking at this thread for a while. Finally decided to do something about getting solar panels and got my first quote today.

    System size: 5.28 KWp

    Panels: Leapton Tier 1 440W x 12 (Width 1.134m x Length 1.909m)

    Solis Inverter: (included)

    BER: (included)

Warranties - 25 years for both performance and panel, 10 years on inverters and batteries.

Whole system Workmanship warranty - 5 years.

Cost (without battery): €8700 (VAT included)

Less solar panel grant: - €2400

    Total cost after grant: €6300

Total cost after grant and with a 4.8kwh battery and hybrid inverter +€3500: €9800 (VAT included)

My initial impression is that it is bit expensive, but not over the top.Am I wrong?

    Any comments welcome. Thanks

The quote without the battery is very competitive. Pretty much on the money and I'd pay that.

The quote including the battery is less competitive. Now we don't have the battery grant anymore, but I'd be thinking something closer to €9200-€9300 myself. If you can haggle them down a little, might be a fair enough shout. Be interested to hear what others say.

Has anyone had installs done on a flat roof? What type of mounting system did you use? What kind of costs were you looking at?

Would you mind sharing cost and supplier via pm please?

  • Registered Users Posts: 45,465 ✭✭✭✭Bobeagleburger

Both of those should be only coming in at about 6.5 to 7K.

It's a small enough system. What about Saas??? (Solar as a service)

    Shop around.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,136 ✭✭✭championc

Dear lord !!!! Don't buy local so.

You can get 8 panels for Solar as a Service for €3600. I think that tells you all you need to know about both of those quotes

  • Registered Users Posts: 45,465 ✭✭✭✭Bobeagleburger

Can you pay the full price of SaaS install upfront?

Not for me but a relative.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users Posts: 991 ✭✭✭cubatahavana

    16 panels, 6.2kw

    5kw battery

    €11.5k before grant

    €9.75k no battery

    Got 2 more quotes,

    Quote 1

    8 hyundai panels 400w each

    5kW inverter

    Battery ready,

    Ber cert incl.

    All paperwork,

No need for eddi, no battery,

Cost circ 9k net of grant 6.9k

    Quote 2

    10 jinko panels 4Kw

    5Kw inverter

    No ber cert

    €8300 or net €6900,

Both look a bit high, any thoughts.

Also both didn't think benefit from a battery due to size of panels, cost and our annual usage 5000-5500kWh a year.

We do plan to get an EV at some stage, but still wondering if this would push towards a battery, or when time comes use excess from PV and night rate.

Looking on solarcity.ie a kit for 12 Recom 390w with 5kW Solis inverter and all the mounting and parts is €3,150 ex vat, so that would be €3,875,

10 panels 3.9kW pack is €2,600 ex vat or €3,300, so with grant of €2,100 would not be that much, but then would need to be installed/signed off etc.

Taking the 9k gross price, and 6.9k after the grant where is the extra €5,300 going in installers quotes?
