Anybody know if this will be available in Ireland?
I can’t believe they would build it in right hand drive for the U.K. and not sell it here too.
I emailed Volvo Ireland asking about it and got no reply.

Even if it is not you can probably get from NI or mainland UK. Now after brexit there may be extra new taxes and duty from non EU countries, so it might be impractical. However with UK car manufacturing and EU car manufacturing I expect some agreement will be reached at least for new cars to be made in EU and sold in UK and vice versa without new taxes.

Well, this is pretty disappointing. Over 100km it spent four times longer charging than the Model 3 compared to the reference fossil.

Combined with lack of cheap access to Ionity and no access to Tesla superchargers, it seems like the dream of it being a well-screwed together and better finished Model 3 are dead.

It's more like a faster and more attractive Koniro.

It's no match for the eTron due to noise and ride quality, but maybe the non-Performance version will be better.

I saw one at the traffic lights yesterday. They aren't pretty looking cars.
If I had to use one word to describe it, I'd call it monolithic.

I think I red somewhere that Polestar is coming to Ireland.

Googled a bit and found they setup a company back in September

Found then the article but seems to be behind a paywall and has a picture of DiCaprio instead of a car so not worth.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,086 ✭✭✭silver_sky

"Article" states launch in first half of 2022 and spokesman stated “early stages of preparing for Ireland which we are excited about”.

I clicked into an ad for Polestar on Boards here and it brought me here. I wonder if these prices are applicable to Ireland? I looked for a test drive but subsequently got an email saying not available to test drive yet.

    Edit

    found this.

When is it available to order?

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 50,497 CMod ✭✭✭✭magicbastarder

is it a volvo? or at least, is it being sold through the volvo network?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,484 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

That looks great value and could be an excellent commuter car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,273 ✭✭✭MarkN

They will have a showroom in Sandyford, servicing through Volvo network, seems to be an element of digital first too though if you want to order online.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,484 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

Have they indicated if they'll take trade ins?

Trying to navigate the website and it’s quite “jumpy”.

ill try it on desktop but no order button appearing for me other than book a test drive.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,593 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I booked a test drive on their site and got e mail back saying no test drives available yet but will contact me when they are.

Does anyone know if the prices advertised is inclusive of SEAI and VRT rebate?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,563 ✭✭✭eagerv

Cannot find any pricing, but fear will be over the €60K (No grant) if you go for any pack and/or possibly even colour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭Virgil°

Yeah I've been following this one closely. Most other EVs include the grant in the price on their websites. Hopefully this is an exception as the plus pack (a pretty needed addition IMO) would be circa 5-6k. At which stage the car would be a good clip more expensive than its direct competitor the Model 3 and possibly not eligible for SEAI grants. I asked their support chat client if they had any prices for the packs here or on the EV grant and they didn't know.

They've some sort of roadshow coming to Dublin on May 9th so maybe more info will be available then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,273 ✭✭✭MarkN

Just under 55 and the most expensive seems to go to around 69k.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,563 ✭✭✭eagerv

Thanks Mark, but will be interesting to see if you add anything will the €55k suddenly turn into over €60k. (Similar to the Model 3 where a red base RWD is now north of 60k.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,141 ✭✭✭circadian

That's a lot better than I was expecting, and it's within range of the EV6 as well. Great to see the EV market starting to become competitive at decent drivable ranges.

  • Registered Users Posts: 40 Mark010

Website says from 54,500, but shows packs available such as pilot pack. However in Marks review, he says that the pilot pack & Heat pump come standard on cars in Ireland. But still unclear whether that €54,500 is inclusive of grants. Just have to wait on brochure updates ect

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭Virgil°

From looking at the review he appears to be driving the car with the plus pack rather than the pilot. As the sunroof, heatpump, wireless charging etc are part of that pack and the pilot is more concerned with assist and sensor features. So maybe he misspoke? Which would make the 54.5k price tag pretty reasonable if the plus was included as standard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,273 ✭✭✭MarkN

Pilot pack with reduced spec in the form of lights (not being Pixel I think) is standard on Irish cars. Plus pack isn't standard obviously but it is as if they've taken a few bits (such as heat pump) and put on cars here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,445 ✭✭✭Virgil°

I see. So the car you were driving in the video with the wireless charging/sunroof, harmon kardon sound etc..... would be more than the 54,500?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,287 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

Hey Mark, can you bleep out the Google when you say "Hey Google" on your vids as it sets off an echo of Google responses in the home...or not, up to you

I'll try find out the exact price of the car in the video.

They're confirmed some prices tonight too - the car is available from €49,500. This is the same for some, but not all configurations of the L.R.S.M. (long range single motor) so €58,245 less €5,000.

Polestar, Kia ev6 or a BMW i4 Mark?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,273 ✭✭✭MarkN

They’re all really great cars in their own ways, top of the pile in their segments but for driving enjoyment, hard to not place i4 first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,646 ✭✭✭celtic_oz

They are not taking orders in the UK anymore .. so thats Ireland borked for foreseeable I'd imagine

just like nearly every other manufacturer, no EVs in stock available to rock up and purchase

They have one sitting down on grand canal dock this week for those interested in a look.

The articles I have read about this say that polestar have a stock of cars ready to go for the Irish market and they will be taking orders as well.

Took a look at the one on display in Dundrum yesterday. Absolutely beautiful in the flesh, blows the Model 3 looks wise. Could very easily see myself picking up one next year possibly.

quick get your order in last year 😆

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,291 ✭✭✭meep

Well, the website doesn't appear to want to take a newsletter subscription or test drive enquiry from me at the moment. Not a great start to my relationship with Polestar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,975 ✭✭✭Soarer

You can configue on their UK website, but there are no orders being taken.

Definitely gonna try stretch to one of them when the time comes. Would love if you could spec the performance pack without the adjustible suspension. I like to saunter, but would love the bigass fancy calipers!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,828 ✭✭✭Old diesel

I requested a test drive but got no email response.

Their website is poor vs even a budget brand like Dacia as its trying to be too fancy

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,593 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I requested a test drive and got an email a few days later saying no test drives available yet.

why put it on the Irish website if that the case?

no prices for the extras on the Irish website either.

theres actually been a bit of a change to trims for MY 23 that’s kicking in so I presume we’ll get these changes when they finally have cars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,557 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Is this Polestar the reason the new extended range S60 doesn't seem to be on sale in Ireland, looks like the Volvo would be a lot more expensive going by UK prices.

Strangely I got an email from Polestar this morning asking to register for test drives again. When I put in my details this time, it processed (or whatever) ie. it didn't come back saying there are no test drives in your location.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,291 ✭✭✭meep

I tried again this morning and it went through, but just got the 'thanks - we'll contact you when we have test drives available' message on screen.

I find it very odd that they are making a big marketing push in Ireland (demo day splashed about on various YouTube channels, display advertising all over websites etc.) but don't have the information let alone product to back it up.

It seems a lot of brands have very poor, or at least quite variable, integration between online and reality. For example, I filled a pre-launch 'keep me informed' for Kia EV6 and have heard ner a peep since. On the other side, I filled a Nissan enquiry form about the Ariya a few weeks ago and had a genuinely interested and helpful sales rep from my closest dealership on the phone to me within the hour.

Has anyone received an email about a test drive yet?

Did anyone attend the event in Cork? I thought there was supposed to be one in Dublin on the 8th May??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,828 ✭✭✭Old diesel

Did they actually announce the locations, times and dates for that roadshow.

I requested a test drive and haven't heard a word.

Bit stupid on their part as I've since worked out that I can own TWO EVs instead of one Polestar.

If I was buying a Polestar id have to trade in my car and add money on top. All very normal...

But instead I can keep my current car and buy something for under 30 k straight deal instead.

Oh well - the idea was fun while it lasted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,975 ✭✭✭Soarer

Have they updated their pricing to include the €5k grant? The prices seem different now, with the Long Range Dual Motor looking like a complete outlier now due to not receiving the grant.

    ..............................................Price........Range (WLTP)*....Power....0-100 km/h

    01.Standard range..Single motor...€49,500....440kms*.............224hp....7.4sec

    02.Long range........Single motor...€53,245....540kms*.............231hp....7.4sec

    03.Long range........Dual motor.....€61,990....480kms*.............408hp....4.7sec
