If you have more money than sense you could get the folio details from land registry for €5, perhaps they will come in handy for something else down the line...

You could look up the BER cert and it'll tell you. You just need to get the MPRN from your electricity bill.

If in doubt, leave it out.

The core of my house (cottage) was built in or around 1800, here's a serious question.

The original part of my humble abode now only forms about a 1/3 of the property, it was first restored (new slate roof from thatch), walls rebuilt etc in 1976. I purchased in 2001 and over a few years modern restoration and extensions done in circa 2007/10 to include massive new roof.

I always face this difficult conundrum when renewing house insurance and generally put 1976 as this was the date previous owner substantially restored the original cottage. It would be near impossible to get insurance on a house built in 1800 or certainly horrendously expensive.

So do I put 1800 or 1976 in the census form 🤔 I'm sure others in the same boat , so to speak 😁

It's a tricky one but I'm guessing as others have said it's when property was first built , so I'll take a stab at 1800 for mine I guess 😏

At this stage I'd say the enumerators are sick of crazy questions from idiots , not you of course.

Do I count my dog , why not , my wife's pregnant do I count the baby , I'm not sure where I'll be on the night etc.

So they can calculate what infrastructure would be needed in an area in the future, schools, colleges, hospitals, old folks homes etc.

Additonally the questions are poor, no question about electric car ownership to plan charge point availability. Why is smoker status asked, is someone planning to open a new cigarette factory?
