Why do people not flash for speed camera vans anymore?

I wouldnt flash to warn anybody. If you are breaking the speed limit you deserve everything you get.

Like buying drink for underage teens, it’s just something that shouldn’t be tolerated anymore. No lessons will be learned if the “leadfoot” avoids a fine, and penalty points. Lives are, potentially, being saved by not flashing.

Having said that, I’d have more sympathy with “flashers” engaging in warning the law breakers on major, straight, roads.

Sometimes I drive a nondescript commercial van and I get lot's of warnings mostly from other vans.

When I'm driving my premium brand sports coupe I hardly ever get a warning.

By the way, I respect speed limits.

Got about 5 cars flashing me 2 days ago... then around the corner lo and behold there was a van

I think in general people flash for Google Streetview cars nowadays ;)

Why would you warn someone driving recklessly about a speed camera?

They all hit the breaks when the speed van is in sight. Flashing them gets them to slow down a few seconds sooner. This won't deter them from speeding again. A nice fine & well deserved penalty points might get them to think before putting on the lead boots.

How do you know it doesn't deter them.

Maybe they'll think that was close I better keep an eye on my speed.

More dangerous stuff going on and ignored.

Putting a speed cam van inside a low speed sign is a money making exercise.

You slow them down for seconds or minutes. Getting hit by a speed camera a few times will permanently slow down a driver.

Increase the fines & add more points imo

So you flash them if doing 10% over the limit but don't flash them doing 20 or 30%?

Some drink driving cases are handled in the same way without a court appearance. Being over the limit is also reckless

I wouldn't flash if I saw them on the motorway but would if they were located in a complete cash cow shooting fish in a barrell road.

Just the culture of driving has changed.. a lot more traffic on the road compared to 10 years ago so I think people are concentrating and focused on driving and enabling their own safety as opposed to flashing..

often wondered, it must cost a lot to operate go-safe… doing a bit of digging it costs taxpayers 1.2 million per month..14.4 million a year if my maths are correct.

red light breaking is at epidemic levels… maybe they should invest in tech at traffic lights.

100%, driving standards are deteriorating. So many drivers not paying attention, token indicator half way through making a turn, taking 5 seconds to pull away from a green light, going around corners half way across the line etc
