Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Is it worth buying a nice car without a garage?

So my situation is where I currently live is a residential home, no garage. The driveway has trees that hang over-top that do drop various nuisance-like things (acorns/pollen/sap maybe?, etc.). Parking on the street/in the cul-de-sac is a thing..... Likewise, there are spots of the drive way that are not directly under the trees.

This all in mind... is there any work around to this? My understanding is car-covers blow because they can rub on the paint and scratch it; although, I don't know if this is true or not so I'm asking this sub-reddit.

Anyhow, are there any work arounds? Or is it not even worth considering a nice'ish car until i get a garage? I am really looking at getting a type R.

If it's a modern car you are getting this wouldn't worry me much having it parked outside. If you were concerned I'd get it ceramic coated and put in some effort to keep it clean and well maintained.

    It's no problem at all.

Whatever car you get, get it ceramic coated such that the coating lasts up to 5 years.

If it is a brand new car, don't allow the dealership to wash or coat or do ANYTHING with that car prior to delivery.

Just take it to your own choice of detailer instead.

If it is a second hand car, then take it to a detailer who can do a 1st, 2nd, 3rd stage polish & scratch removal and then ceramic coat it.

    Then just wash and enjoy.

    HOWEVER!!!!!

NO!! (I mean ZERO) automatic car washes!

    Only manual washes.

Even if you use a power wash at a petrol station etc. DO NOT use the fricking brushes on your car!!

    Just use the spray.

    1st Foam

    2nd Rinse

.....maybe use a waffle towel to dry it afterwards.

    And that's it!!

I have a decent hard top convertible that is parked outside. Not everyone has the privilege of a garage etc.

Paint protection that main dealers promote

Modern paint is crap, a bit of bird crap will eat into it after a few weeks. While solvent based paint was terrible for the environment it protected cars much better than water based paint.

Hence why I recommended ceramic coating.

Modern cars are however well rust proofed which is what I assume would be of greater concern to the op
