Amazon pickup locations near Newry

Hi all,

I just noticed Amazon offers several pickup locations in Newry / near the border, so the obvious question is: can I get an Amazon UK order sent there and collect it in person, without having to pay for customs charges?

Yes. So long as the order is delivered to any UK address there will be no custom charges. I get stuff on a regular basis delivered to a pickup location in Strabane and it works fine.You also save 3% VAT.

I thought NIRL was regarded as EU from a customs point of view so there would only be the VAT difference of 3% on an order v's it arriving in ROI?

I've never ordered anything over €150 value with delivery to NI so I cant say for sure but it wouldnt make any sense to apply Irish customs charges to an order being delivered to a UK address.

Just checked a confirmation email I had from a couple of months back and its actually 18 days. There was a link to a help page which may be useful.

18 days is only for "local collect", which I understand is delivery to a post office, right?

Sorry, yes its 18 days for local collect. Thats how I get my orders delivered. But the hub is a wee bit different Taken from the FAQ's here

You have 3 calendar days to pick up your parcel from a Locker and 7 calendar days to pick up your parcel from a Counter. If you're not able to pick up your parcel within this time frame, we’ll automatically return it for you and send you a refund.

Hi all. Is this still working? I logged onto amazon but can't find option to deliver to post office / collection point in NI?

Weird as I have the post office address for Jonesborough in my list of addresses but can't select it, including for orders fulfilled by Amazon.

There are restrictions on the weight and size of items that can be delivered to collection points. Most likely your items are too heavy or big.

Only other thing I can think of is the PO you have isnt operating that system any more.

Then they will hold it for up to 18 days?

No, nothing so drastic! You just go to the PO with the tracking number and ID and that's it.

Sorry, I should have clarified that at the Amazon checkout you pick a PO from their list of pick up locations and that address is then stored in your account details. The PO address and post code are included so you just pick whichever one is convenient for you.

when i look at Amazon Hub Counter - Post Office Jonesborough

it shows opening time as Mon-Sun: 07:00 - 22:00

but the post office is half day on Saturday and closed on sunday.

probably amazon has got wrong working hours. is that correct?

A lot of post offices are located within grocery stores so while the store can remain open until 10pm for example the PO part will close at 5:30. There are 2 in Strabane that I use. One is in a Supervalu shop and the other a Spar shop. Im not even sure if standalone PO's are used for this service.

Not all items can be delivered to Amazon Hubs at post offices. When you select the Hub as your delivery address during the order, Amazon will indicate whether it can be delivered to the hub.

I've used the hub at Cloughoge PO (just outside Newry) for several years, it's a very handy service to have - there's usually free delivery to the hub too!

If you're talking about returning an item then you need to get a returns label from Amazon and then post the item at any post office.
