Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just the only thing Chelsea were missing last night compared to last season was control. They showed incredible heart to get it to 3-0, and at that stage they just didn't have the control to see the game through. Control doesn't just have to be possession, it can be dictating the tempo, like Madrid did in the 2nd half of extra time where the restarts were slow, players going down with cramp, all of the timewasting tactics you'd expect. In comparison, after they got the 3rd Chelsea were still playing front foot football, taking set pieces quickly ect. If they could've just slowed the momentum right after the goal they probably would've gone through last night but, as we've seen since probably around December/January, they weren't able to rely on a watertight defence anymore. As predicted, although they got over the line in the end, this Madrid team give up a lot of chances even when they are playing deep.

As a Man City fan though, the result last night was a win.

Atletico do not have to close part of the ground tonight.

Honestly, this is all proves just how good these Liverpool and City teams are.

there's a reason people are saying that Liverpool and City will be in this final - because their consistency in result (not necessarily performance in every game), is beyond anything that anyone else is producing.

The Champions League, over the last few years especially, exposes the weaknesses of teams. that's what elite competition does. over 2 legs, Madrid pounced on every mistake of Chelsea's and punished them. Chelsea weren't ready this season. they're too flawed, and it got found out, even against opposition that, on the whole, was inferior. because Benzema and Modric in particular are beyond clutch in the moments that matter.

The tie is probably beyond Benfica but I really really hope Atleti win tonight. The absolute arrogance of PL fans is astounding. City are 1 goal up away from home against a seasoned CL team and everyone here seems to already talking about City's semi final and final opponents.

A team and a manager who have more than a few chokes in this competition are up against both Madrid's who have been performing at this level for years now are apparently "dead certs" for the final.

The City game is an extremely interesting one. I don't think that is as done as many think. I think City will progress, but Simeone will shíthouse that game to hell and knows Atleti can nick a goal at any point.

Always interesting to see if Pep will over think it against Simeone.

Ah the good old CAS, **** your rules, you're not allowed punish teams or players the way you want because we say so and we'll find some kind of spurious reason. Sure we'll wait til right beforehand then make a decision so that the actual issue isn't the issue we rule on anymore.

And as per usual the ould racism goes basically unpunished.

How did the closing of 5000 seats work. Was it the ultra section that was to be closed ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,089 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

I guess it was overruled because the tickets were already sold and fans would have made arrangements to go to the game. You'd hope that the 'ban' will be carried over to their next game, although what exactly does a 5,000 seat ban do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,287 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

Fine plus not being able to sell those tickets I guess but it doesn't do much at all

The only reason that is cos you cant use the other foot adequately is incorrect.

He cut across it with the outside of the right foot which imparts a good bit of backspin which helps Rodrygo.

If he hit it with the inside of his left if would make it a more difficult ball to hit.

Ideally players should be two footed but in this case there is logic to use the outside of the right.

City will take them apart tonight , They will score first and Atletico will come out and get ripped a new one ,

City are a shoe in for the final and the only side with half a chance of stopping them are Liverpool but unfortunately i don't think Liverpool's midfield have enough legs to beat City

When was the last time you saw Anyone take Atletico apart.....at home ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,198 ✭✭✭Talisman

Liverpool's front three took them apart in the first 15 minutes of their group match. They scored 2 goals in that period but missed 2 great opportunities before scoring the first.

And came back to draw level with us and we only got the late winner from a pen after they had been reduced to 10 men.

We certainly didn't take them apart.

An Atletico win tonight would confirm La Liga is back. I wouldn't put it past them either. An early goal for them will really test City's nerve, although if City score first, I'd say they're screwed.

We could yet have 3 of the semi finalists being from La Liga, doubtful, but 4 from the Iberian Peninsula still a possibility.

Liverpool to get a tight 1 or 2 goal win tonight and City to come through but it could well go to pens I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,198 ✭✭✭Talisman

For the initial period of that game they were certainly at Liverpool's mercy - Simeone was going crazy on the side line and in the post match press conference he spoke about how Liverpool had forced them to not play like Atletico, he didn't recognise that team but they adapted and got control in midfield.

If there's another team remaining in the competition that is capable of repeating what Liverpool did it's Man City.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,124 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I'm not sure it's back for definite because there are some batsht financial issues at Real and Barca that will rumble on especially considering the age profile of a lot of top players.

Certainly shows they are still in a healthier position than the rest of Europe outside England though.

That's what Martin Keown would call a reducer if ever there was one. How that's not a yellow beggars belief....

Feels like the calm before the storm in Madrid. Atletico will have to take a chance at some stage and City will look to exploit. It does appear they are getting under the skin of several City players.

What did Walker do to himself!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,630 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Walker going to have to go off. De Bruyne also been subbed with a problem.

Not even a VAR check for that Cancelo challenge?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,742 ✭✭✭Dr. Bre

How was that pen not checked !

I know Athletico can be a diving shower of s##tbags but that was surely worth a VAR check?

How was that Benfica goal not given as offside? Liverpool have switched off and already thinking about City on Saturday.

Expecting Atletico to go all out with their shenanigans for the last 10 minutes

That's a shocker by rodri. Surely they have to go back to check that.

    Lovely dive by sterling again.

Ha Kondogbia taking a dive from the ref

That rodri tackle was worse than the Fabinho one in Sunday that city fans got in a twist about

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,124 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Should have at least been checked for a few mins even if I don't think it was a penalty in the end

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,978 ✭✭✭BenK

    City have been poor here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,535 ✭✭✭Dave0301

Nonsense. City players are not capable of bad tackles...
