I just think the try bonus might be easier to achieve than a losing bonus. Going after a losing bonus is like playing for a draw in soccer. One mistake and it’s gone in a matter of seconds. Setting out to try score tries is easier to control. Ulster did it with us a few seasons ago in the RDS. Defense became optional from both sides.

Yeah def worth a go all right. If results go our way this weekend then we may not even need any more points to secure top spot anyway. Come on Stormers and Munster to low scoring 8 point wins!

What you've said is almost correct, but just to add that I think the ranking criteria in the table is league points, then matches won, then score difference. E.g. Ospreys are ahead of Lions right now, while having the same league points, Ospreys have more matches won but a lesser score difference.

But in this case, unless Glasgow and Ulster both finish with 3 wins and Leinster lose their last 3 without more than a couple of bonus points it's a pretty safe bet they will finish top 2 if not top outright.

Edit: Never mind, Glasgow about to lose heavily here. If Leinster reach 62 league points they’re guaranteed a top 2 finish unless Munster or Stormers get maximum points and huge score differences.

I think the management are probably quietly confident. These lads are fit and theresfew opportunities for them. I hope for any kind of points.

That Munster/Ulster result is good for Leinster. Both sides are on 51 points and can only finish on a maximum of 61. Stormers can finish on a max of 62.

Leinsters points difference is enough that I think we just need two points from our final three games and we finish top of the table.

Would have been better if Munster had denied Ulster the LBP. But overall it’s a good result for us.

Only need 2 points to be top seed from 3 games provided the pack get max points from their games which is unlikely. Can’t see us not being top

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,780 ✭✭✭Jump_In_Jack

That’s not fully true, Stormers can catch Leinster on 62 if they win their last 2 matches with bonus points and then they’d be tied on Matches Won so then they’d have to make up the 131 points in score difference to pass out Leinster.

Mathematically possible but extremely unlikely. Leinster just need 3 or more points to be clear, and anything less might turn out to be enough depending how matches go.

The Stormers are flying at the moment. Seriously good side. The S.A sides are all playing well and at home they are very tough. This will beef up the urc. Leinster will not be winning the urc year after year.

Today's tilt is probably more crucial than next week. Without any front line players, we could be hockeyed next week. But, the growth and experience gleaned by the youngsters will benifit us down the road.

I'm hoping for a win today but, would be happy with any points. I hope HB has a good outing and can shake off a bad season of injury. If we were to win today, that would mean the remaining matches will have no effect on the table? We would be the top seed?

A win today would take the pressure off and perhaps we'll see more academy lads play the remaining fixtures.

I’d be amazed and pleasantly shocked if we won today.

Kelleher pulls out of the 23 with a minor shoulder injury. Massive loss for this game. Hopefully he won't be out for long.

Leicester just beaten 26-20 away to Quins. Only saw the second half but looked like a good contest. Think Leicester might have rested a few starters or at least benched them.

A losing bonus point would be a great result. But having looked at that Sharks side it's an extremely tough ask.

Best we can hope for is that the younger players can put in a decent showing and not get hammered.

Looked like Deegan made a good wrap on that tackle.

Can't agree with the referees call.

If the handling is going to be this bad against a pack like the Sharks pack then this is going to be a long night...

Did the players put their hands in a bucket of warm butter before kick off? Their handling has been absolutely atrocious so far. All the Sharks need to do is wait for Leinster to drop the ball, get a scrum, destroy the Leinster scrum, get a penalty, get territory, and rinse repeat.

    Scott Penney special.

Burrowing over from a metre out.

Some things in life are guaranteed.... Death, taxes and penny to score

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,686 ✭✭✭Shehal

Penny is absolutely deadly that close to the line, always manages to burrow his way over!

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,686 ✭✭✭Shehal

Sharks cant score on their own so Leinster hand them the try!

It must be said despite this being a young squad they really have been sloppy so far, and like another poster said awhile ago they do look like a side who's accepted defeat before kick off, hopefully that changes as the game goes on.

Jaysus this is great stuff. Two very opportunistic tries, some tackle there to stop a certain try.

    Leinster's inaccuracy hurting us.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭SaoPaulo41

This could get ugly for Leinster

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,141 ✭✭✭✭Clegg

Strange game so far. Sharks look better in the scrum and have had a lot of possession and territory. But Leinster have still defended quite well and Sharks have only scored off an intercept.

Sharks look very dangerous off unstructured, breaking ball. But their handling is a but dodgy.

    Braindead play from Tommy O’Brien.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,686 ✭✭✭Shehal

That TMO should be embarrassed with himself after that...anything to get the SA team out of dodge.

    Hendricks is a terrible 9.
