Our current DSL broadband package is up with Eir in the coming weeks. We've used DSL broadband the last 16 years or so after dial-up (do you remember the days?) and the maximum speeds we've ever gotten are download 2.1mbsp and upload 0.25mbsp. We've had Eir workers etc. out but there is nothing can be done until the NBP happens. The latest update for our area was late 2023/early 2024 and the website states our Eircode is 'pending survey'. Needless to stay between school work and working from the past two years, we can't take much more of our slow internet.

We've been looking into the various mobile broadband packages with Eir, Three and Vodafone. We have a €8 sim with 48 and as a hotspot on an old Moto G4 mobile we've been getting speeds of up to 21.4 mbsp download and 12.3 upload. It can vary widely every time you test it but in most cases it's faster than what we get through DSL. We're just not sure whether to commit to 12 month contracts with any of the above providers until we know which one is the best.

There are loads of sim only plans out there at the moment - is it possible to buy an LTE router i.e. this https://www.currys.ie/ieen/computing-accessories/networking/network-routers-and-switches/routers/tp-link-archer-mr200-wifi-4g-router-ac-750-dual-band-10157625-pdt.html or this https://www.harveynorman.ie/computing/networking-and-connectivity/modems-routers/tp-link-n300-wireless-4g-lte-router.html and try the 48 sim we have, the eir connect - 30 Day plan or Virgin Unlimited Plan to try in the router? Or must they be specific mobile broadband sims?

Also leaving a DSL package could that have repercussions down the line if fibre was to become available like connection / re-connection fees etc?
