Replacing Dish - Considering German/French/Italian Sats?

Had the old dish taken down as it was gone, used for the UK channels only.

I'm in no rush but I wouldn't mind paying a wee bit extra to be able to pick up the Sats carrying the German and French channels maybe even Italian as well as UK

Im just looking for informed opinions on my options. I know you can get a motorized but I've read about using one large dish with extra LNBs I think but would the sat positions be too far apart?

Im not pushed on being able to record etc just receive

This is a recent thread which you may find useful. https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058239377/second-dish-worth-it

My preference is for a multi-LNB dish with a multiswitch unit. This lets you access all the satellites from different rooms at the same time if needed. IMO a motorised dish is good fun for a hobbyist but restricts you to only watching/recording one sat at a time. Sods law dictates that the two shows you want will be on different sats at the same time 😃

whats your broadband like, is iptv an option?

I agree with Gerry on this .... I have a dish on a motor for messing about and I enjoy moving it it around on the arc to see what I can pick up. But if there was anyone else in the house that was actually going to want to watch services from other satellites, I would need to set up a more 'static' option. At the moment, I scan various satellites for Ukraine War local news coverage and if I forget to put it back to 28.2E, the other family members get annoyed at not being able to see their usual BBC or ITV programmes.

    Thanks lads.

IPTV is a no go, I use 4G tethered to android box for movies and tv shows as I never made enough use of broadband when I had it.

Family will be using too and are very lazy when it comes to learning tech so I'm not dealing with the hassle anymore.

For example I have a Tiviar with a twin sat and 1 terrestrial feed and I still have to deal with "why isn't this working" after putting all the Irish and UK channels on the same custom bouquet after 2 years and locking out all other bouquet options that it's as simple as a Sky EPG, when it's a simple press of a back button, but alas

So the multi LNB seems the best option by looks of it Gerry and Ger, what sats do ye pick up?

Main order of necessity is UK, French/German and anything after that would be a plus really

So am I right in thinking I would need

    1 LNB for 28.2 E for UK

I'm looking but a little confused I thought Italy was 13e Hotbird only but a map shows Astra 1 19e having similar coverage?

Obviously 28E is the UK stuff, 19E is mainly German, some French and Spanish. 13E has Polish and Italian stuff

Also for instance if the dish is pointed at 28e am I not goosed for the likes of 19e without another dish?

You fit an adaptor to the dish that holds the different LNBs at slightly different angles to the centre of the dish to suit whatever satellites you want. For best results a slightly larger dish than a basic Sky one is preferred.

For example if you want 13, 19 and 28, you would aim towards 19, so 13 and 28 would be off-centre

Oh excellent Gerry thanks. I think my local installer might not do much bar the UK ones so what size dish would be rec?

Also if anyone can point me to the correct dish, LNB and switch equipment I would be grateful as I may need to source the bits and just let him for them and angle them thanks
