The addition of Cyril Lyons and Donal Moloney to the Clare minor backroom team by the excellent Brian O'Connell was huge. Tremendous guts and determination by these amazing and inspirational young Clare men. Roll on Tipp tomorrow week. Even if we lose against Tipp, we will have another two matches guaranteed v Galway and the Leinster runners-up. Meanwhile not a word on Clare FM.

yea superb win no doubt, definitely lived on the edge on a number of times, Cork must have had at least 20 wides, Clare got the breaks but made the most of them.. the tides is turning as the roles are usually reversed when we play Cork in most grades

Yeah their workrate was outstanding. You love to see that. Getting at least 3 more games into the summer at this level will be huge for their development. One can already see how much they’ve come on since the first round. Particularly James Organ there at left half forward. Taught he was excellent tonight, 0-4 from play, big athletic lad. Exactly the type of player e you want coming through to senior. But there are a few more with serious potential too on that team. Very encouraging. Tonight will be massive for their confidence.

Clare FM had a few updates. far between them but they did have them. Clare GAA Twitter was active.

Fantastic win, especially in the context of last year. Bravo to all involved.

While Tipp will be rightly favourites in the final having beaten us already, we're not that far off so we're not without hope.

Any site available to watch the last game v Cork?

I know it was live on GAAGO but wondering if RTE might release anything seeing they had footage of it on the Sunday Game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 662 ✭✭✭supernova5

think there might have been 7 of last years squad on this years squad

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,315 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Great for them that their minor experience is not permanently tarnished by last year. Beating Kerry, Waterford and Cork. No matter what happens from here, it's been a great experience for them.

Any word on an appeal for Ian Galvin's red card in the senior? It seemed harmless enough. Until we can get Meehan, Rodgers and co. back, we need Galvin in the team.

  • Registered Users Posts: 662 ✭✭✭supernova5

havent heard anything, Are they definitely appealing Galvin's card? if we were to go by Shane Dowlings opinion last Sunday night they have every right to and also stand a great chance of overturning it [then again that's only one man's viewpoint]

If anyone needs a ticket for the Waterford match hit me up, I got way too many and don't mind selling them cheaper than retail :)

Anyone else kinda wish Clare were in the Taliteann Cup...? Maybe it's a bit defeatist but it's still a better chance of winning some tin than being in the AI. I remember when Clare beat Kildare in Croker to win Div 3 a few years back in a cracker and it was a great occasion.

Absolutely not, that's like teams playing in B because they think they'll win it rather than trying to survive in A, you should always aspire to play at the top level.

  • Registered Users Posts: 615 ✭✭✭dohboy

Fair enough. I wouldn't mind a cameo in the Taliteann Cup for a year, win it while also romping Divison 3, then go back to surviving in Division 2. Normal service is resumed with a few cups in the bag for good measure.

The problem with Clare is that they have stagnated and seem to be happy with their lot of being a division 2 team without producing anything in the championship.

Big game tomorrow night for the minor hurlers, what are our chances ? Team announced below.

As an aside, an interesting paring of Laois v Offaly in the Leinster minor final, it's been a bit of an exceptional year.

Unfortunately, one of the stars of Clare’s campaign so Diarmuid Stritch (Clonlara) has been ruled out of Wednesday’s final due to concussion sustained against Cork. Sixmilebridge’s Matthew O’Halloran comes into the team while Clooney-Quin’s Dannan Fox comes into the squad.

Clare Minor Hurling Team v Tipperary

    1. Mark Sheedy (Sixmilebridge)
    2. Eoghan Gunning (Broadford)
    3. Fionan Treacy (Éire Óg)
    4. John Cahill (Clooney-Quin) (Captain)
    5. Sean McMahon (Smith O’Brien’s)
    6. James Hegarty (Inagh-Kilnamona)
    7. Riain McNamara (Cratloe)
    8. Piaras Ó Sé (Ruan)
    9. Matthew O’Halloran (Sixmilebridge)
    10. Michael Collins (Clonlara)
    11. Jack O’Neill (Clooney-Quin) (Vice-Captain)
    12. James Organ (Corofin)
    13. Sam Scanlan (Clooney-Quin)
    14. Oisin Whelan (Clarecastle)
    15. Cian Neylon (Kilmaley)

and Stritch has been one of the better players in all games to date so quite a loss

Tipp looking stronger with each game, its a big ask to beat them.. a munster title would be mighty but not end of the world if they lose as they will have at least 2 more games after that

Massive effort from the minors so far, difficult to separate the teams.

    game gone to extra time

Beaten on a penalty shoot out

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭letowski

I’m abroad so I just was getting Twitter updates. Gutted for the team and management. But they’re still in the competition with at least 2 games left. They have improved each round. I think they’ll have a say in this championship yet.

  • Registered Users Posts: 662 ✭✭✭supernova5

Shameful of the gaa to decide a provincial final this way, it's only May 11th, it was the same for both teams and it's not being bitter but it's just totally wrong

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,746 ✭✭✭✭callaway92

They had normal time and extra time to try and sort it on the pitch. Can't go as far as saying it's shameful, especially since both teams are still in the championship.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,073 ✭✭✭Billy Ocean

Taking tonight in isolation i think a replay was possible as it wouldn't have curtailed the schedule, Leinster final isn't til Monday so a replay on weekend or Tuesday for example could have worked.

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,315 ✭✭✭keeponhurling

Maybe it's experience that will help them if they later go on to play senior and are faced with another penalty shoot out

But I do think they should really be avoided if possible, even to consider a "next score wins" type system

It's strange but now we are guaranteed two more matches, whereas if we won we're only guaranteed one more !

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,093 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

Yeah very unfortunate way to decide the match but it had to be decided somehow. It seems Clare GAA teams aren't practicing penalties at any level. They have 2 penalty shoot outs and zero out of 6 attempts is it? That's embarrassing.

Next score wins system doesn’t allow for enough variables. Bad decision by the ref, unlucky slip by player, wrong lineball call could ruin it for a team.

Penalties gives teams 5 attempts - allows for variance

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Regional Midwest Moderators Posts: 23,989 Mod ✭✭✭✭Clareman

Penalties aren't great but come on, they are under 17 years of age, far better for them to complete the game rather than having another game to worry about, these lads a probably preparing for their Leavings. Big ask to have lads step up to take a shot from 21 meters out after ~90 minutes of hurling, personally I probably wouldn't be able to lift a hurley after that much effort.

An awful way to settle it, definitely shouldn’t happen at underage level, way too intense for children to be subjected to.
