Young Delaney would want to watch himself! A performance of Eoin Kelly-like proportions.

Some performance, another munster final to look forward to.

Indeed. I was really impressed with the level of stick passing throughout. For 16/17 year olds to be passing like that, impressive to me, anyway. Woodlock and his management doing good work.

Forde and Quigley out for this weekend. I had heard that Forde hadn't been training since before the Waterford game and has been getting pain killing injections to play.

John McGrath going in for surgery on his Achilles today

Jason Forde just hasn't been any where near his standards in the championship so that would explain a lot. With Seamie and Bubbles out he couldn't be rested either

Big opportunity for the under 20s to keep up their rate of development with a good performace tonight. Up against a side that have won a lot at underage and are very experienced. It's a tall order. But hopefully they can keep up the levels that can give Limerick a game. Full back looked like a concern the last day - hopefully he can step up a level.

So much better than our senior team at running with the ball, good to see because you need to be an athlete these days.

While we’re doing our Best, we look like minors V U20 in the physical stakes . I thinks we’d be better off just dropping ball into the square than out to the sides . Big ask for the second half

At least they're putting in a decent shift and fighting. There's a big difference in body size in a few positions. But that can happen. This will stand to them long term - now, they know what the standard is. Cummins and co have done a lot with that team in a short space of time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 906 ✭✭✭Ompala

Agreed. Can't fault the players for effort, not shying away from tackles and getting well stuck in. Might not go their way tonight, but this group has come a long way since minor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

Those boys restored some pride in the jersey tonight. Much needed. Grateful for it, tbh.

They left some goal chances behind them but they'll learn from it. They actually learned a lot from the first half and improved in the second. The more they can play Limerick the more they can learn how to get beyond this new system.

A pity there's no backdoor opportunity.

The size difference between Limerick and the rest even at underage is staggering.

I know ours are a bit younger but even still, it's crazy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,087 ✭✭✭✭Mantis Toboggan

Wasn't a whole lot expected from this team but my God they didn't go down without a fight. Cannot fault the spirit or workrate of this team thought their fitness levels were excellent. In fairness Cummins has done a great job here. Wouldn't mind a couple of them thrown in with the seniors.

Whatever limerick are doing underage they're creating monsters of men, hard to beat their academy system. They had the size and physicality advantage along with lads who could catch high ball.

The academies they have in limerick are producing huge men.

tipp and the rest will have to just accept that is the way it is , McManus money is making a huge difference

tipp Cb need to stop ignoring the elephant in the room, limerick with McManus money have changed the game forever

Will be hard to compete with a county whose system is run on a professional basis from underage squads up to senior

tipp did well tonight and it was a good game, but the difference in S & C was very noticeable.

If we get to the Munster final and loose as expected. Do we get a back door route or is it always the T cup no matter what round we go out?

If we get to the Munster final and lose we enter the qualifiers and will never enter the Tailteann Cup.

We would enter the qualifiers at the stage before the AI Quarter Finals.

If we lose to Limerick we will play in the Tailteann Cup.

good luck to the tipp lads. Good to see some new faces

hopefully we can keep it close , will be tough if get a complete hammering, Clare even though we were not great was not a hammering

the main thing for All of us to remember is this is coming a long time

tipp at underage are not producing players who are physically and mentally ready to compete with modern hurling

the CB need to get that fixed, that’s their job and hopefully they can start doing their job.

colm bonnar has inherited a complete shambles from sheedy, is bonnar the man to lead tipp out of our current position I doubt it but is there anyone who could?

Professionally run academies that produce big powerful players for the senior setup is what is needed

the true difference in the under 20s Munster final Wednesday was strength and conditioning, tipp players looked very light in comparison to limerick and it was so noticeable I had heard that comment from many people Over the last few days.

I hope the CB understand what is needed.

You must have missed this announcement:

Tipperary GAA has announced plans to overhaul its athletic development structures, aiming to create a formalised pathway for players from academy to senior level. Through a new partnership with Setanta College, the county is implementing an integrated approach that will cover both hurling and football across all grades.

Central to the partnership will be the design and delivery of long-term development programmes by coaches from Setanta, who will also oversee the strength & conditioning for Tipperary’s senior hurling and football teams. Tipperary GAA will also have access to the facilities, equipment and technology in Setanta’s elite-performance facility located adjacent to Semple Stadium in Thurles.

The announcement signifies a new approach for Tipperary GAA, aiming to create a joined-up structure that will prepare players for the transition from underage to senior level. Previously, athletic development programmes were delivered to teams separately by their relevant coaching staff.

Chairman of Tipperary GAA, Joe Kennedy, said “I am delighted with our new partnership with Setanta College. This is a major development in the delivery of athletic training programs for all Tipperary players in both codes. Setanta College are leaders in this field and as they are headquartered in Thurles it makes perfect sense to use this top-class facility. Setanta College provide highly trained coaches and the very best equipment to measure and monitor athletic performance. The benefit of this partnership will be seen over the next few years and will give our teams every chance to be successful in the future.”

In recent years, Tipperary’s senior teams have used the Setanta facility as a base for their strength & conditioning training while the college also provided the academy teams with remote support during the COVID-19 lockdown. The new structure will see the pair form a closer working relationship.

The coaching team and programme will be led by Des Ryan, previously Head of Sports Science and Medicine at the Arsenal FC Academy and now Director of Coaching and Performance at Setanta College. A member of the Gaelic Games Sports Science Working Group, he led the rollout of the GAA’s ‘Be Ready to Play’ initiative earlier this year. Also supporting the design and execution of the programme is Dr Liam Hennessy, former Bayern Munich and Irish Rugby Fitness Head who operated in the past as S&C Coach to Tipperary GAA for multiple All-Ireland successes. Both have previously led youth development structures across Rugby, Soccer, and GAA and will be overseeing a team of 12 experienced S&C coaches who will lead on the implementation.

Speaking about the partnership, Des Ryan said, “Tipperary GAA has enjoyed great success in recent years across both codes, and our aim will be to help build on the foundations already in place as the county embarks on a new approach to athletic development.

The ambition in Tipperary is to continue challenging for the highest honours in the years to come and we look forward to supporting the teams in their preparations. Along with senior-level, our team of coaches will work at academy level to support the development of youth players, helping Tipperary GAA to harness the talent and potential within the county.”

The Setanta connection to Tipperary GAA goes beyond this new partnership as senior hurling manager Colm Bonnar and coach Tommy Dunne are both graduates of Setanta College. Headquartered in Thurles, the sports college specialises in providing higher education across the field of human performance, specifically in strength & conditioning, sports science, sports psychology, and exercise nutrition.

Notable graduates and students of the college include former Head of Strength and Conditioning with the Limerick Senior Hurling Team Mikey Kiely, former Tipperary Hurler Brendan Maher and Ged McNamara, Head of Athletic Performance with Munster Rugby.

I have heard this before but I see no mention of this on the setanta college website, I would query how close this relationship actually is

if they are fully in charge of tipp senior and under 20 this year than the results leave a lot to be desired

I cant see where we will get the scores to keep anywhere near Limerick sadly.

Depending on their humour this could be a blood bath.

Handicap is 9 or 10, I will be happy if we can keep it under or on that to be honest.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,309 ✭✭✭evolvingtipperary101

    Bloodbath incoming.

Heading down tomorrow under no illusions of what's coming our way if Limerick are in the humour to go to town on us. I just want to see honest complete effort from the team and they try their best

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,135 ✭✭✭PeggyShippen

An honest hardworking performance with some kind of game plan. And that game plan being stuck to for 70mins. That's not asking alot. They have to start fast or it ll be that bloodbath people dear it might be. I think they ll do fine and Limerick will only win by 5 or 6 .

Strength and Conditioning will take loads of time. Limerick were always a step ahead in that regard. They always went for physical players even before they were successful. They always had the rugby and rugby have being doing weights since the 1970s. I grew up doing weights since I was 15 around 1995 and that was the norm in our school

Looking at the team limerick have picked I expect limerick to try and give tipp a solid hammering, kiely despises tipp even though he is a principal in tipp town

the Man has made zero personal effort to promote hurling at the school.

Is that true? I know his school hosted the Rice Shield competition this year and he was all chat to the young lads at it about hurling. Surprised to think he wouldn't be promoting hurling.
