Good man , your going to really enjoy her and I hope you like cleaning black cars lol I’ve been out at it every week . PHEV price depends on spec you choose the grant is 5k and basic list price for PHEV from what I remember was around 44k

The base price was €44,895.
The SEAI grant is €5,000 is approved before the end of June. I got a good deal on the Peugeot, better than when I thought about getting a Golf in 2019!

My first brand new car was black back in 2004. I swore after that one that I would never get a black car again. And now I'll be getting one twice the size.

Just as well black looks stunning when it is clean.

That sounds decent, we paid €36k for an Ateca FR 1.5TSi last July, I think if the Formentor had been out at the time I might have been able to persuade herself into one of those instead.

I see the dealer I bought my Superb from have Cupra listed on their website I'll have a chat with them when I'm getting the car serviced. Be nice to be driving something a bit different.

Just stuck a deposit on mine. It's the 204hp hybrid, in black. It's already been ordered, so is in production.

Just a question - these don't seem to come with alarms, or at least it has to be added as an extra. Mine hasn't been specced with the alarm. Last time I bought a new car they all came with alarms, but this doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Is it worth fitting an aftermarket one, or does it make any real difference to the insurance?

That was actually one of the questions that I asked when I was with the Dealer, that I thought it odd that the alarm was an option. Especially given that the insurance company ask if alarm/immobiliser/tracker is fitted.

I was told that the immobiliser should be enough, that the alarm is mainly of opportunistic thieves targeting items that are on display.

I was like yourself, every car I have had since 2002 has had an alarm on it. It will be odd just being immobiliser only.

I've only ever had one Irish car with a factory fitted alarm as standard, and even at that it was due to the trim level I think. UK cars seem to have them fitted as standard a lot more than here.

Yeah mine didn’t come with an alarm but I bargained the price of an alarm off the car and had one fitted the day after I bought it , even as a small deterrent I wouldn’t be comfortable without an alarm ...

If you're worried about the car being stolen look up Autowatch Ghost. It's the best immobiliser system on the market.

You'd think deadlocks are pretty standard on everything, the cars I had that didn't have factory fitted alarms all had deadlocks anyway.

I know from the spate of break ins to Mk7 Golfs back in 2018 to steal the wheels and wheel nut keys via the rear door window that Irish ones don’t have deadlocks as standard. Same with the Octavias.

I might be wrong here but I think even the Golf R didn’t have them standard. Open to correction on that.

That's mad. I have a Mk1 Octavia and I was sure that had them but maybe not, didn't realise cars that recent didn't have them from VW.

Ive a 2016 Leon SE and even that has deadlocks as standard. If you want to keep the neighbours and yourself up at night get a an aftermarket alarm! It will come with Cupra Connect which is basically a tracking device. That along with deadlocks and immobiliser is enough security imo. Most car theft I believe is using the keys fished so the alarm won't help you there anyway.

Just checked VW site. New Golf doesn’t have Safelock as standard.

New model R for €63000 has alarm and safelock standard

I don't understand why when the UK equivalent does, I can't imagine it's that much of an expense to save money not installing it.

You car has it doesn't it, with a factory fitted alarm? Ours does too but they're both UK cars if I remember correctly.

And we'll pay a hefty premium on top of what the car would actually cost in the UK as opposed to here !

Yeah mine is Uk and has both. You know they have safelock when you get the warning on the maxidot display when you turn the car off.

You know you have an alarm (on last generation stuff anyway) because there’ll be a button on the pillar to the right of the drivers seat to disable the interior sensors

I think insurance loading in the UK is a lot more heavily weighted towards vehicles that dont have alarm as standard than here in Ireland. A lot of brands here dont have anti theft alarm as standard - either way its a €300 option on the Formentor. Would much prefer things like LED lights or Adaptive cruise control or Navigation standard to be honest which are all standard on Formentor.

Golf R has always had alarm / deadlocks as standard.
I’m fairly sure any VW with keyless entry (most GTI’s, R-Line’s have it) also has the deadlocks too.

I don't think so, you need Kessy full or whatever VW call it to have the alarm/ deadlocks. It's very stingy of VW not to have the complete package with Kessy.

That's mad. I actually always though our Leon didn't have them as I knew the Golf didn't but turns out they do! I had a Mondeo previously and a Zafira Tourer now and they both need a double click to dead lock which is why I also assumed all cars were that way! I'll read the manual more thoroughly next time! VW way actually makes more sense surely you want your deadlocks on by default. Though seems others think it better that you need to consciously lock your children in the car! Don't forgot to turn of your sonic and tilt sensors on the Alarm first though! I'm often never sure if I double clicked walking away and give it another for good measure!

Double-click on the VAG cars disables the dead locking. I was doing it for a while as my previous car required a double click to deadlock.

Picking my eHybrid Formentor on Friday morning.

I am getting very excited now. First stop after collection will be my COVID vaccination centre for dose no. 2.

I went for the 245 VZ. Leather interior also.

I had initially gone for the 204, but caved in and upped the spec and added the extras :-)

Can't wait for it now. Good luck picking yours up also.

There is a group on Facebook: "Cupra Formentor Owners Club", mostly UK based members. Lot of happy owners, but a good number seem to have issues with the infotainment systems. It's worth a follow.

Most of the infotainment issues came with the early release models and productions and they have either been updated via the software or re-called and replaced - newer models (Including mine which I got in April) don't seem to have the same issues mine has been fine anyway but yeah that's a decent group plenty of info on it...

2 weeks in and just shy of 1,000km covered, and I am absolutely loving my Formentor.

I have never had a car that attracts so much attention. People have actually stopped walking as I drive by to look at the car. I have come back to a small crowd at the supermarket too. I went with the leather interior, and these seats are just fantastic, supportive and comfortable.

Same as above. Picked mine up a fortnight ago and absolutely delighted with it. Just under 2k km on it since we were down the country for a few days. I got the 204hp e-hybrid version and it’s plenty powerful for me. Fantastic pick-up from the electric motor and the leather seats are so comfortable. Bonus in this weather is the ability to control the aircon from the phone app. Was playing golf earlier and turned on the a/c when I was on the 18th fairway. Lovely cool car when I got back to it 10 minutes later. Such a great feature.

Was getting the car serviced today they had loads of them around the place I found the interior a bit disappointing when I had a gander, it looked a bit plasticky/Seat like maybe a good test drive might change my mind.

My Formentor is 6 weeks old tomorrow (1,542 km), and when I was coming into work today, I joined the motorway a little enthusiastically. As a result, the Emissions Control System Sensor activated.

I rang my dealer (who wasn't the closest one to where I live), who advised me to call the closer one to book in for an investigation. So, car is booked for Tuesday, and I have been told to minimise the amount of driving I do in the meantime.

Car will be in for half a day too, and there is no courtesy car available.

That's pretty disappointing. I've had mine for the same time, and have put up over 4,000km on it. Including some 'spirited' driving. No issues at all so far.

Also, I thought the 'Cupra Care' package was supposed to guarantee you a courtesy car? Not great service from the dealer if so.

Hope you get sorted ASAP at least.

Just tipped onto 10k Km in the Formentor and touch wood have had zero issues with the car so far - I think I made the right choice for me in buying it and I really like the 150 engine , this is coming from a petrol head and the 150 is the lowest powered car I've owned in about 10 years but I've really noticed in the past few month's...

A. It's not a completely boring engine , it's decent and whilst won't light the road up it gets the job done , is fine for overtaking and feels more than 150 - Good low down pull

B. Living in Dublin it's just getting impossible to actually use additional power anywhere , speed limits are mainly 30/50 KM unless your on a motorway or dual carriageway so the Formentor is up to those speeds pretty quickly.

c. It's a fantastic cruiser , comfortable , quite and handles really well for a bigger type car

Now in saying that I've kept my Boxster S for the 'Weekend' and there's a world of difference in stepping between those two as you'd expect - but I quite like the ability to take the Formentor as a family car / cruiser long trip and the Boxster when I want to move through the gears somewhere. All in all though I get the 'Not a Cupra' feeling from people but for me in terms of looks , performance , where they've placed it in the market it's been a fantastic play from Cupra in the segment , one that Alfa Romeo completely missed the ballpark on when releasing the Stelvio by pricing them far too high and not playing at their target audience - everything in that 1.5 is more a less the same as the 2.0 300 bar the adaptable suspension , some buttons and the engine - I wouldn't pay an additional 30k for a 2.0 Turbo engine over this one.

About to pull the trigger on a Cupra Formentor. Been absolutely torn between this and a Kia Sportage.

Basically do I chose selfish ego pushed choice or usual choice of the family car? I've posted on the Kia Sportage thread too so apologies for double posting but just really do need opinions on both sides.

Anything I need to look out for or keep an eye on?

Already seeing those KIA's everywhere. They are nice but I think id have something a bit more special, which is the Cupra. It really catches the eye IMO.

This is what I was saying to my wife. Every 30/40 cars is some sort of Sportage and I've seen 3 new ones today already. Anytime I see a Cupra it turns my head. The only two things that turn my head is my wife and an Airplane in the sky 🤣
