Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What Commercial Software would you prefer to your sh|twork software

Myself, I'd use da Vinci resolve with the hardware dongle - there a couple of different dongles available.

    Can't afford them though.

I use Final Cut Pro X on my Mac, but as a PC person I find the Final Cut pro community a bit too close minded.

You can also post about your preferred software at work, Don't have to mention your actual software if it's confidential.

    Notepad++ instead of Notepad.

Any of a range of other email clients instead of Outlook.

    Zoom instead of Teams.

    Okay okay I really meant

Cheap ass software not commercial software.

    The Cheap skate

(although my Final Cut Pro is fully licenced and paid up!)

Altium designer just to have a go. Although I survive fine without it. The license fees are insane €9000 or 295 a month

Hope I didn't offend any Mac fanguys or gals too much in my OP.

I use XCode on Mac which is the easiest coding environment by far to set up compared to Visual studio etc.

Holy crap! How does one do the "greater than" symbol between 2 words without this site thinking I wanted to change the paragraph style!

    Winamp > Media player

(I had to copy/paste the symbol in....)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,636 ✭✭✭dotsman

Mediamonkey > Winamp > Media Player

Winamp just makes me feel like it's the 90's

As for the ">" symbol - yes this site is $hite. Just noticed this problem when you mentioned it. As a workaround, I found you can simply write the ">" immediately after the word (without a space before it), such as "test>". Then when you have finished the sentence, go back in and enter a space, such as "test >".

As for the teams vs zoom. Zoom winds, hands down for video/calls. However, I do like the chat function, teams grouping and file sharing aspects etc. If zoom introduced that, they would really have a killer app. Otherwise, they, like slack, are going to suffer under MS dominance. With Teams bundled in O365, a lot of companies using zoom etc will switch over to teams. Likewise, with it bundled and default etc in Win 11, expect a lot of personal users to also start using it. My org is currently migrating us from zoom to teams, which sucks. I wish they would still let us use zoom as well as teams.

I presume the migration is because Teams has some unique employee-monitoring features that the PHBs all love?

TBH, I think it's just the fact that it is free (they are paying for it anyway with O365), it is MS, and consultants love recommending it (courtesy of M$).

With the rollout in my org, there is a noticeable drop in video quality as well as a massive surge in people having connection problems etc, but nobody from IT (very political, and massively dependant on consultants) is entertaining the idea of keeping zoom.

Zoom over Teams; Final Cut Pro (on my own Mac v Dell at work)

Adobe Lightroom CC - again, at home.

Also, going off topic a bit - Mac over Windows every day
