Mine is the same, my card expires in 2027 (and backup in 2026) so I don't have to change cards until then.

    It didn't cost anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,157 ✭✭✭✭Sleeper12

If it doesn't work out there's always the gift cards route. I loaded enough to cover me for the next 2 years. Works out around €5 per month for full 4 screen 4K

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 124 ✭✭arrowman

Tried the chat route - didn't get very far but didn't use VPN to access it. I got onto an agent and they sent me a link to the update payment section on my account

When I attempt to add my replacement Revolut card as an additional payment option I am getting the message - "There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use."

The agent on chat seems to think that new new revolut card is not set up for recurring international payments but as far as I can see it is. I have also added in some Turkish lira on it just to be sure but still getting the same message.

Is the update of payment option through chat still going through the same online form as you use when accessing via account details directly??

Do I need to go on VPN to get this completed? I had used HolaVPN for this originally but I see its looking for a subscription payment for it now too. In case I need to use VPN are there free ones I can use?

    Glad you got sorted :)

For me, it wasn't a link. I asked for the "in chat payment update option". It was a payment window that just popped up within the chat. Maybe that is what you got though..

I used a VPN and incognito so I would suggest trying that. My VPN is "Keepsolid VPN Unlimited" which you should be able to get a trial of for free.

There is settings on the Revolut card - you can turn off online transactions for example. Unlikely to be the cause, unless you changed them, but worth a look in the app to make sure they look okay.

    Thanks stdidit

Checked Revolut and settings all ok- made a purchase on Amazon in stg just to check it.

Will try that VPN you recommended and will specifically ask the chat agent for that in payment option.

Tried to update payment info to my new Credit union master card and was getting a request to verify via sms but it's only giving option of entering a Turkish number even though i have an Irish number in my account settings .

So went on live chat and asked for the in chat update option, had to ask a few times but eventually got it and updated payment info.

I'm having a mare with this at the moment, logging in via incognito with the VPN set to Turkey, selecting live chat and then the update payment option, tried the main card and adding a back up card and no job, using new revolut card and also virtual card.

For the craic I logged into netflix ireland without the vpn and tried to update payment details and for through to verification via the revolut app however got the same error as above.

Anyone with even more basic steps that have already been mentioned as I'm at a loss for now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭NATLOR

You don't select the update payment option when you go to live chat. You have to start a chat and ask for it through an operator

Thanks Sleeper12, I just resumed my sub this morning. Great little deal.

Thanks - having awful trouble switching from Mexico to Turkey. To make matters worse now I can’t seem to resume my Mexico sub which used to revert back no problem in the past after my failed attempts to transfer to Turkey.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,157 ✭✭✭✭Sleeper12

If memory serves, I moved from Mexico to Ireland. Changed Mexican phone number to Irish number. Cancelled Irish sub and waited for the month to expire. It was then I joined Turkey. Joining Turkey is the only time you need a VPN. No VPN required to buy or load the gift cards

I don’t think you can go directly to Turkey

  • Registered Users Posts: 378 ✭✭Joziburg

So you can’t move directly from Mexico to Turkey, even with adding gift cards? Right now I’ve an expired Mexican sub (did the Irish sub many years ago on the same account) and in limbo because I can’t resume Mexico nor add the credit card for Turkey.

I was hoping I could buy the gift cards and load to my current Netflix account whilst using a Turkey vpn?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,157 ✭✭✭✭Sleeper12

Maybe others moved directly but at the start of the thread I was told to move on to Ireland for a month first.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭j_mo

I let my Mexican subscription expire today but prior to that, I logged in and made sure I had a valid Revolut card on the system and also my phone number on the account.

This morning I turned on the Turkish vpn on my phone and logged in to Netflix. I popped in the gift card number and instantly restarted the membership again.

I know some people seem to have had issues with restarting their membership but it went okay for me. I hope that you have successful with your endeavours.

  • Registered Users Posts: 378 ✭✭Joziburg

Thanks, after a bit of effort managed to add a months worth of Turkish Lira credit.

As a matter of interest, does anyone know what happens after the credit is used up … would it take the payment from the Revolut saved on my account (but only used for Mexican payments in the past)?

I was having trouble following all the messages with solutions to the payment method, but managed to get it sorted based on whats been said before.

For simplicity, here is a step by step guide of what I did to fix the payment issue

    1. Setup VPN - I used Norton Secure VPN - seems I have used my free trial on the majority of VPNs at this stage :)
    2. Within Revolut, moved 5 euro in a Turkish Lira account
    3. VPN'd to Turkey
    4. Opened incognito window on my phone, and logged into Netflix
    5. Went to the live chat
    6. I just typed in "I want to update my payment option"
    7. Kept selecting the option to talk to person
    8. Was asked to confirm my email address, and then a payment window opened within the chat
    9. Filled in the details for my revolut account
    10. The equivalent of ~1 euro was taken from my Turkish Lira account
    11. All done

No sorry should have added 100% used VPN.

Minutes before i was in Argentina updating my YouTube premium details 😂 🛩️

Well a payment just went through on my new revolut card so it obviously has been accepted. One thing though the cost has gone up this month and is now more than double than I was paying 2 years ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭NATLOR

Cost has gone up everywhere. It's still under a fiver a month

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 124 ✭✭arrowman

    Eventually got this sorted.

Using the VPN is essential otherwise they obviously pick up that you are not located in the jurisdiction you are subscribing to and keep pushing you back to the online account update option and the dreaded SMS verification using a turkish mobile.

The VPN didn't seem to want to connect properly on my home network - I am using a DECO mesh system which must have something to do with it. I'd need to be a network engineer to be able to figure that one out!!

Anyway I went to a relatives house and went online - set up the VPN to Turkey and logged in to Netflix, went to chat and asked for the in-chat payment option. It took a bit of back and forth with the chat agent to get the steps finalised but eventually got there. Agent was very helpful and it was straighforward enough. I should be OK with this card hopefully until its expiry in 2027 so that will keep the family off my back till then. I hardly ever take the time to watch Netflix myself

Many thanks to all the contributors on here and to stdidit in particular for the help with this.

Glad you got sorted arrowman & good to know about the VPN being essential :)

It seems to be hit and miss. I just changed my card details without a VPN and it went through straight away. No messing at all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭quinnthebin

Thanks for the summary. That worked perfectly for me :)

Is it any help or a hindrance to add an Irish recovery phone number to your account prior to trying to update/add card details? My Revolut is a month away from expiring and I never added a recovery phone number when I first set up the Netflix account in 2019.

  • Registered Users Posts: 819 ✭✭✭setanta1984

Chat option is the way to go :)

As per post from bazwraf, went on to the chat while connected to Turkish VPN, and said "I want to update my payment option" - had a number of questions, like what type of card it was, last 4 digits - they sent me an email which was just a link to access your account to update the payment option - I told them it still didnt work, and they sent the fabled payment details form within the chat - seems this is a way for them to insert the details manually on their end. After a minute or two the test transaction went through, and they said it was all updated :)

Playing dumb to get that in chat payment form seems like the golden ticket.

Revolut card I added has a 2027 expiry so hopefully sorted for a long while.

Just done updated cards via the chat option, once for myself and another time for a friend.

First lad just asked for my email address and sent the form, second asked for email, name, date account was set up, current payment method and then asked for a security code - he noted the code was to confirm my location, not sure if it was but had VPN for Turkey either way.

thanks for sharing the chat option

I added my irish number and it worked after that doing the chat option but I think this may be just a coincidence. Not sure if other people had anything similar?

What is the reason in the OP to set up an Irish account first then use vpn to Turkey for payment option. Will it work to just set my vpn to Turkey from the get go and sign up that way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,056 ✭✭✭cletus

Fair play. My Revolut card is about to expire, used your steps, and now I should be good for another 5 years 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭NATLOR

I'm presuming it's so you can continue with an Irish version of Netflix as opposed to have a Turkish version

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,931 ✭✭✭✭mailburner

Another voucher option here 75TL cost me 4.68+ service fee of 14TL/80c for 2 months of netflix/2screen basic https://www.ronesansmarkt.com/NetflixGiftCards paid by revolut

I set it up for a family member so when it asked for a turkish number to verify it just seemed easier to go down this route especially

so if you have a family member who only knows how to turn on a tv.

For around 2.50 a month v 14.99 it's sweet knowing you're saving someone money (or in my case just paying a little extra)

My Revolut card is due to expire in July; whats the best alternative as when trying to add my new card it's asking me for a Turkish phone number to verify the account?

[edit] just seeing https://www.boards.ie/discussion/comment/119122695/#Comment_119122695 now and will try this option

[edit #2] worked perfectly - did ask for a phone number but I pointed out that I had a (irish) number already linked to my account; they launched the payment form within the chat window and took my new Revolut details; saw a 1e charge come through and revert on my revolut straight away. Payment details now updated with my new card...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,529 ✭✭✭irishgeo

so I cancel my Irish sub today, I have a revolut card.

what's the next step, wait one month and try the Turkish option.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,595 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

You should prob state "VPN geolocked access" as regular access is no issue

One question here — did you have an active subscription elsewhere or did you have to let you current Netflix subscription expire?

It was a while ago since I did the initial part, I think the OP has good information on what to do, but I think I did the following:

I cancelled my existing Netflix subscription, so that I had a few days left, already paid for.

When my subscription expired, I signed out of my Netflix account.

I then opened a new incognito window, and vpn'd to Turkey, and went to Netflix.com and renewed my account

At that point, I dont think I was able to setup payment via my new card, so I recommend having your card all setup before cancelling your subscription

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Ya, the key thing originally was to have an Irish sub with the payment method you plan to use already all set up. Once it's all working, cancel the Irish sub, wait for it to expire and then travel to Turkey and set it back up again.

Anyone also tried the chat payment option and failed?

I tried it, unsuccessfully, as the agent said my payment was declined by the system..

Chat option failed for me, all my cards declined

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,807 ✭✭✭Xcellor

OP here. Had to go through this process again due to revolut changing my card. The trick is to get the agent to send you to a "special" payment screen.

i was getting "There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use."

Then the agent sent a different payment screen and I reentered and it went through fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,446 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

My tip on getting the agent to give you the screen: act like a complete idiot who doesn't know how the Internet works.

  • Registered Users Posts: 178 ✭✭inel

It is strange why it works for some people and not for others.

I also got this 'special payment screen' within the chat (after some 'negotiation' though, the agent was claiming it is only for credit cards, not debit), entered the details and then after a few seconds the agent said it was declined..

Unless there is another 'special' screen that the agent can also send?

    (I used wind-scribe vpn)
