PHEVs are not designed by nature to give long electric range. If they did then there would not be any need for BEVs.

For context the OP is already in a self charging hybrid. I don't think a PHEV is going to get them any better fuel economy for their driving and that's even leaving out the cost of trading their existing hybrid in for a PHEV.

Not sure there's many outliers for phev range, but the rav4 is about as good as it gets on electric range as far as I know. About 50km.

SUVs are bad at being efficient though, so higher speeds will hit that hard. Also consider that some phevs won't run on electric only over a certain speed

IMO, phev prices Vs traditional hybrids make them a foolish choice. Eg. The 8k difference between hybrid and phev rav4 as mentioned earlier.

Spending 65k on an SUV, you should certainly consider fully electric. What's your typical day to day driving look like? What do your regular long drives look like? Are you regularly driving 400km a day?

I have a RAV4 phev. I live 20 miles or so from work. The concept works excellently is so far as the ic engine is never used on the (my wife’s) commute.

it returns about 6l / 100 km in normal hybrid mode.

it was a bit more expensive but has awd, better towing and is a good bit quicker. I think it’s actually cheaper than the RAV4 awd hybrid.

The new Citroen C5 X PHEV can do 55km on a charge.

It's not out yet but is soon and the OP could well afford a top of the range one even. It's a very classy great looking car with loads of neat details on it.

There isn't a big SUV type full electric car available in this price range. I am doing 210 km total daily commute and it includes 80% highways. I am hoping to switch to full electric next year once more variety is available in the market.

It doesn't work for everyone though, hence my post. The OP does 200km a day with alot of motorway driving and came from a diesel car to a petrol hybrid SUV. Diesel gets alot of bad press these days but it sounds like it suits the OP's usauge alot better than any petrol hybrid, plug in or not.
