    LOL

Him or Philomena should appear on a future screenwipe complaining about it.

    I really enjoyed that.

    I really enjoyed that.

Ditto. First mockumentary that I have really enjoyed watching. Nice to watch a light hearted retrospective on the year 2020.

    Thought that was quite funny.
The sound bites for 2021 was hilarious.

A few funny lines that made me smile but overall rather boring watch that was pretty much all US centric

CB has sold his soul to pander to the US for Netflix

  • Registered Users Posts: 203 ✭✭SpacialNeeds

I agree, it was very American and a smattering British except for a mention of the fire in Australia and footage of the Beirut explosion.

Some of the actors were inherently unfunny and kept making the same jokes, like Phoebe from Friends, Hugh Grant as an old man and the person with the massive eyebrows who was supposed to be a right wing soccer mom.

In fact, the narrator was the funniest thing about it. Really disappointing from Brooker. It being terrible is quite in keeping with the theme of the show, I'm sure he'd argue.

That was really good but also really depressing at times. Wondering how much of it was actually scripted and how much was improv?! The 1 of the 5 most average people in the world (Diane Morgan) is extremely dry like that sounded like she was adding bits at times.

Terrible crap really...usually enjoy his yearly wipe but this wasn’t close

Ah it had some laughs, but not even close the the standard of his old BBC wipes. And this year really deserved a UK wipe. He probably could have spent the hour on Matt Hancock alone.

That was horrendous. Don't think I laughed once throughout the whole thing.

Yearly Wipe was always a good watch but he'll never go back to that now. Unless to take the piss out of something like Death to 2020.

    Some laughs but mostly poor.

The parts with the guy from Stranger Things doing YouTube videos was horrendously bad. Not a bit funny.

Also find it quite cringy that they were all for making fun of the years events - Covid, Brexit, Trump etc. - but a big serious 5 minute montage of the BLM movement in the middle and not a joke in sight. Scared of any backlash.

It was good for what it was , a simplified wipe for the Americans:)

I've read a couple reviews on it and it really sounds dull, waste of some great actors

Netflix Developing Spinoff to Black Mirror’s USS Callister

"We’ve seen evidence that a spinoff of the episode is moving forward but unfortunetely, information right now is extremely limited. As a result, take this with a pinch of salt until any official announcement.

It’s early days but the title is expected to be simply called Callister with no names attached.

This isn’t the first time a spinoff for U.S.S. Callister has been floated. It’s been widely rumored since the release of that episode that it could be on the horizon.

definitely looking forward to it, but can be very hit and miss. Hopefully the 3 years of a break gave them good time to come up with good ideas.

Maybe they needed it. The majority of stuff is either mediocre or very poor.

I think the only Black Mirror episode that I can definitely say was great was Shut Up And Dance.

I loved this show but we now live in the dystopian world that it depicts. I also think satire is dead and after suffering through 20-30 minutes of Death to 2020 don't believe Brooker is any exception to that.

    Joan is awful

    ==========

    Really enjoyable and funny.

Annie Murphy is excellent in this a really talented actress not surprised she was terrific in schitts creek and Kevin can f##k himself.

Brilliant cast and some top notch cameos.

Good premise and a very meta episode ha ha. I did guess pretty early that netflix...sorry streamberry had the rights to her life, who reads the ts and cs to be fair! A pretty rare "happy" ending too.

Well that was a weird and wonderful opening episode

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,709 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Wasn't mad about Loch Henry - found most of the episode quite boring to just turn in to some timid

    horror episode

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,709 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Episode 3 was very predictable - hmm not loving this season so far, just random stories, past two episodes are stories already told elsewhere

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,709 ✭✭✭✭fritzelly

Episode 4 - how is this a Black Mirror episode - terrible

Werewolves - really??? Not even a glimpse of tech bar an old modem loading screen

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,659 ✭✭✭✭Tony EH

Most Black Mirror episodes aren't that good really.

Do people actually watch them as a stand alone storyline? Surely the interest is in figuring out the different underlying meanings while watching and not necessarily the storyline.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,359 ✭✭✭✭gmisk

    Yeah

It was ok but not great, pretty much guessed where it was going early on unfortunately.

The lead girl I only know from Industry was meh, her weird eye brows distracted, the young male lead was excellent, I do love Monica Potter though a seriously underrated actress.

Lot of Easter eggs, his laptop sticker was the digital character who ran for election I think, the doc was on streamberry in the last episode, reference to the San junipero episode at the baftas, the callow years doc poster pretty sure the politician and the pig guy was called Callow, probably missed a few.

Liked episode 5 but this season has been sorely lacking "tech" - may as well change the show's title to British Horror Story

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,929 ✭✭✭Greyfox

The best ones are absolutely amazing. Last season thou didn't have an amazing episode so im trying to lower my expectations for this season.

Yeah, there's only ever a couple of really good ones per season surrounded by some stinkers

Well 3 episodes in and I might be in the minority here but really enjoying this season so far. I love the little easter egg references to the Black Mirror universe

Good breakdown for episodes 1 and 3 below for those interested

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,020 ✭✭✭Shelga

I have only watched 1 and 2 so far, thought 1 was enjoyable and really liked Salma Hayek’s lines, but there was too much exposition and it ended up being less than the sum of its parts.

Thought episode 2 was fantastic though! Have long been a bit disturbed by people being obsessed with true crime. Monica Dolan was great, even though her accent was dodgy. Although why didn’t Pima have eyebrows, that was annoying and distracting 😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,147 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

As someone who has seen 1 epsiode of BM I think (the one about the PM riding the pig), could you recommend some of the amazing episodes so I can check them out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,155 ✭✭✭✭Snake Plisken

Damn that was a fine season not one weak episode of all 5 well crafted stories from Charlie Broker

I couldn't sleep last thinking about the ending of Beyond The Sea.

I thought Demon 79 was excellent they really captured the UK in the 70's and Loch Henry had a great ending

Mazey day made me smile with the call back to a classic practical effects scene of a certain movie I'll say no more.

Joan is Awful captures where we are heading with modern technology AI Streaming services.

Overall a big improvement over Season 5 I do hope we get a season 7 from Charlie Brooker in a few years.

San Junipero is oft regarded as the best episode of the show.

Shut Up And Dance is also excellent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,929 ✭✭✭Greyfox

White bear, USS callisar, and San Junipero are my fav's, they really stay with you. White Christmas, 15 million merrits and hang the DJ are also excellent

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 423 ✭✭Amberjack

San Junipero is my favourite by a long shot

For me the better Black Mirror episodes are relatively earlier in the series - IMO probably the best is 15 Million Merits. Other particularly good ones are Shut Up and Dance, White Bear, White Christmas, Crocodile and Metalhead.

Really enjoyed Demon 79 of this season. Loch Henry and Beyond the Sea were not bad either.
