Kevin Feige confirmed this has been the most watched MCU show on Disney+ - not to any huge surprise I'd have said. 5.23 billion minutes of watch-time, which works out as an average of 872 million minutes per episode.

The best of the D+ shows, with Hawkeye as a close second.

I'd say it was always going to be a slam-dunk, given how popular Loki was before the show was even commissioned. The thirst for Tom Hiddleston alone likely got eyeballs on the series.

    What were the opinions though?

Disney+ doesn’t have a rating system and I’d be very interested in knowing the reaction because as I understood part of the Hiddleston thirst is that Loki is a bad guy (or at at least not a good guy).

Here he is entirely a hero regardless of his claims to the contrary.

for myself I prefer him a bad guy/up to mischief. And I couldn’t get into the show because of that. Really hoping Loki returns to the movies by the end of Love and Thunder.

As I am here, the timelines that the TVA are erasing are all belonging to Earth 616, am I correct? I assumed at the time that they were erasing other Earths in the Multiverse but that would be incursions and someone like Clea would have come mot deal with it before now.

I'm just surprised I haven't seen any overt Kang references since.

Stuff like the [Dr Strange and MoM spoiler]

Purple Energy of the Darkhold Wielding Dr Strange had me thinking maybe but I dunno. If there was stuff to see it was to subtle for me

Mod - Enough bickering. Back on topic about what's going on in the show's episodes, please.

Anyway, in actual news, albeit of the totally unsurprising variety, Tom Hiddleston mentioned during a TV interview the whole cast will be returning for Season 2. Doesn't clarify if Kang or Sylvie will return (though the latter is a good guess)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,257 ✭✭✭Spon Farmer

It is a show where no main cast member will die.

Kang the bad guy behind it all so he will indeed be back at some point.

I’d wager the previously seen Loki variants will also return for an episode- if not all certainly Richard E. Grant

A version of Kang, didn't they kill the OG timeline version?

i think he did say he would be like that but It will be the same actor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,793 ✭✭✭FunLover18

Sorry I misunderstood, this is going to be confusing now we're talking about varients. Like I keep forgetting this Loki isn't technically MCU Loki but a varient.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,257 ✭✭✭Spon Farmer

I forgot about that. It is the reason they came for him at the start and why he is at the TVA.

The series is a decision that I don’t understand.

Loki had been through a lot of character evolution but resurrecting him in Endgame gave back the fun villain Loki.

Why do that just to have him reset again?

Spoilers below for other MCU properties

Same with Spider-Man- why expose his identity in the first place just to lead to remove Peter from everyone’s memories. There were other ways to get him to back to the basic Friendly Neighbourhood hero that mean killing of May or isolating him from everyone. Love those movies but killing of May - I just don’t get it.

Same. And TBH the first episode's little montage of Loki highlights was (IMO) an attempt to fast track all the character growth "our" Loki went through before dying in Infinity War. 2012 Loki was a total **** at that stage so the show needed to get him quickly into the version audience's knew at that point.

Going forward I just hope this isn't how the MCU deals with the Multiverse, and just have arbitrary character swaps when needed cos "Multiverse".

Loki is a bit like Harley Quinn at DC he has crossover appeal with people who are not necessarily comic book fans but are obsessed with the character

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,272 ✭✭✭✭flazio

Funnily enough, Harley Quinn isn't really a comic book character. She was created especially for The Animated Series

    I decided to rewatch loki..

Phase 4 was such a disaster, but, this was quite an interesting 6 parter..

Not sure the MCU should have included it, but it is very clever .

Holy hell, I hadn't known Ke Huy Quan was in this - excellent.

I'm looking forward to the return of this: I've complained about the other MCU shows being wedded to the movie timeline, but this is the exception that has owned its advantage of an existence slightly askew from the MCU mainstream; and it looks like it'll be fun.

Edit: it can't be a coincidence that Jonathan Majors featured so little in that trailer...

Ke Huy Quan is definitely a man making the most of his return to acting.

After the disappointment of Secret Invasion I was feeling a bit burnt out by the MCU but this really is showing promise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,459 ✭✭✭kerplun k

looks promising. Hopefully can maintain the standard of the first season. It’s a shame about JM. Hopefully him staring doesn’t turn people off.

At this stage you have to just call a spade a spade, no matter the outcome of the current allegations, the work was done well before his behaviour was exposed, just release the thing as was intended. It wouldn’t be fair to everyone involved if you chopped up the story now due of his shocking behaviour.

    I want all episodes together

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,977 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Ok opening episode and there is a mid credit stinger.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,772 ✭✭✭youngblood

So it's not the Marvel comeback they thought it would be? To fix all the Marvel problems of fatigue, disjointed story arcs etc?

I'm not sure I'm even bothered with these TV things any more!

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 17,994 Mod ✭✭✭✭ixoy

The first five minutes were better than anything in any episode of 'Secret Invasion'. A low bar sure, but I enjoyed this a lot more.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,459 ✭✭✭kerplun k

Loki is class. I’m loving the way they’ve just ran with the concept of last season. Loki as a character in the MCU is dead, this isn’t bogged down by the MCU, and it’s all the better for it. It’s not the same character, and it’s fully embraced the world they created in the first season. Definitely it’s own thing now.

I think this may annoy some fans, but for me it feels liberated and fresh.

The god of mischief is dead. Long live Loki.

Haven't watched the first episode yet but wasn't it established in the first season this is not the Loki from the MCU???

    Mid credit stinger.

    Can't say I'm lovin it. 😎

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 36,711 CMod ✭✭✭✭pixelburp

Correct. Of sorts: its the Loki that escaped during a time travel set piece to the end of the first Avengers film. The heroes of EndGame accidentally let Loki escape after he was captured.. so this was Loki prior to his character development when he was just a bitter brother of Thor. Then he watched a montage of "our" Loki's various revelations and had a change of heart.

Thing that puts me off trying shows like WandaV and Loki is that you seem to have seen loads of other MCU guff to understand it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,272 ✭✭✭✭flazio

You see, I'm fine when it goes that way. What I don't like is how you need to know a TV show plot to understand the movie plot. Case in point Multiverse of Madness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,013 ✭✭✭✭expectationlost

what happened at the end? i thought loki was looking for a timestick to purge himself, couldn't find one, followed the ringing found, sheila appeared and suddenly he was purging

They had contended that the TV shows would embellish the films but weren't necessary. I don't see how they could say that this is true with "Multiverse of Madness". Or indeed with the upcoming "The Marvels" (surely watching Ms. Marvel makes a big difference) or the next Captain America (if you hadn't seen "Falcon and the Winter Soldier".

First episode was an absolute tonic after the total po-faced tedium of Secret Invasion: fun, witty, well-paced with a proper sense of momentum. Looked great too in continuing its retro-influenced production design. It remains the standout MCU show for me,

I think it's a Mystery: if you watch again, you can see the glowing end of a Time Stick behind Loki as he fizzled away - but it couldn't have been Sylvie, so I guess we'll see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,233 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

That kinda bull is why Marvel is starting to tail off. I dont think its the cliche "superhero fatigue" but rather Marvel started taking huge liberties and lies causing people to check out.

    Episode 2 was a struggle.

    No end credit scenes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,977 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

    Yeah that wasn’t good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,386 ✭✭✭✭Penn

The trouble is we're being told that this is all of great urgency, and that the destruction of all these branched timelines means monumental amounts of death, but none of that is coming across in the show.

The directing was just awful throughout. It's really not selling the action, emotion or urgency.

And I have no idea why they acted like those key lime pies were so amazing and delicious when all Tom Hiddleston did was occasionally lick the smallest bit of cream possible off his spoon. I know actors don't actually eat the food or that much of it, but the way it was filmed was just so awkward and weird.

  • Registered Users Posts: 522 ✭✭✭Full_Circle_81

I was thinking the same thing when he was eating/not eating that pie😅

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,704 ✭✭✭Bacchus

This season hasn't found its feet yet. I'm just not connecting with the peril of the situation. Like Penn said, the whole purging of the branches felt a bit meh. They were literally doing this routinely 2 days ago. Just because they now know they are variants, those branched lives suddenly matter. And why didn't the branches just start reforming immediately? TBH, the whole relationship between Kang and the TVA is a bit vague. Was Kang keeping the branches in check or the TVA, or a combination of both. What exactly is the Loom doing if the whole purpose of the TVA was to ensure there are no branches. Another thing I don't get is why Kang isn't already here since time... past, present, future is happening all at once as far as the branches and TVA are concerned. Hopefully it'll be explained.

Was there some background to X-5 that we were supposed to know about? He seemed like a non-character thrust into the spotlight who had some sort of history with Loki and Mobius. The interrogation scenes were pretty poor. That was supposed to be Loki's mischievous best... it was good cop, bad cop.

OB is probably the only fun aspect so far this season, and the action with the Loom is a tangible ticking time bomb.
