No Eircode assigned Elderly Uncles home

Hi All,

Just looking for some guidance on the following if fello boardi's are better in the know.

So my Uncles home address does not have an Eircode assigned. The thing is, he is living rurally and has never received post related to this address here but a few kilometres away at a friends address were it is more convenient for the postman (long standing arrangement). I have been looking into getting one assigned for him recently, however I was wondering would there be an implication with property tax, which down to pure mis-organisation, has not been paid (I don't think the house is registered at all). I have told my Uncle that he may be landed with a fine and a bill which as he is not too well off currently would prefer to hold off until he could better afford to pay. He fully intends on sorting this out but as it stands is not in a position to financially.

So I guess I am asking, could I be bringing a fair bit of trouble on him by proceeding with this?

Any idea or suggestion greatly welcomed.

You need professional advice.

While it may be an issue coming up with a lump sum now, it can only get worse if nothing is done - in particular if Revenue find him as opposed to there being a voluntary declaration.

Was household charge paid?

I presume you have looked at the map on Eircode.ie and checked if there's a red dot on the property?

As far as I know the property tax was assigned based on the MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number) and is unique to that property and nothing to do with Eircode. So once he is connected to electricity and gets a bill to his home he should be on Revenue's radar.

I agree, the snowballing effect of this is not good if left to itself. By Household charge are you interchanging that with Local Property Tax?

If so, No it would not have been paid as of now. Yeah I am thinking I may have to look for some professional advice on this.

Yes I have looked at the Eircode map and no red dot appears over the satellite image of the property.

Thanks for that info on the Meter Point Reference Number, I'll take a look into that. If this is the case I presume my Uncle may have paid the LPT through other means without him knowing.

An Post send the information to Geo Directory and it is from this that Eircode garner information.

It should be as simple as dropping into the local delivery unit and asking that the depot manager adds the address to the Geo Directory and that will in turn update Eircode.

As for LPT, simply ring them. Revenue are one of the more helpful and easy to deal with departments. He seems to be very rural, so its not as if his home is worth €1m, more likely it is in the sub 100k level for the initial period from 2013 and most likely sub 200k value now, so €90 a year - €855 (2013 was 6 months) + they may charge interest, but have the power not to in certain circumstances.

Also house cannot be sold or transferred if LPT is unpaid.
