I got a new L40 SVE at the start of the year, and it came with a spare tyre (one of those temp ones), much to my surprise!

Great news. My biggest pet hate about the Leaf (and many new cars) is the lack of a spare wheel in place of useless goop. Was it under the carpet in the boot in the usual spot?

Irish spec Leafs come with a space-saver spare wheel - it's an option (at best) in the UK and most other markets it seems. It's in an under-floor carrier in front of the rear bumper IIRC (mine isn't due to appear until July, so won't be able to confirm for a while :) )

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,647 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

I was hoping it wouldn't be in that rear cavity. So awkward to access, but at least it's something if in a real bind and can't get a tow. Some markets legally require a spare. I'm just amazed as to why Nissan waster the space in the boot by reversing the cavity space designated for a spare.

Mine is also due in July :)

I just realised when I read your post I've a space saver for the Leaf out in the back of the shed unused, don't have the Leaf anymore so must find a home for it!

Yep, as @pron says, it's under the boot, you get to it by unscrewing a large bolt under the car near the rear bumper. Not as easy to get to as in the boot, but still great to have one. I'm like you, would much rather have a spare than that spray stuff.

I was contact4ed by my Nissan garage about 2 and a half weeks ago, asking me to bring in the car a 171 30kw leaf for a "recall " as they needed to update the Lib soft ware . Dropped it in and got it back in an hour. Have no idea what the Lib soft ware is but I seem to be getting more kms on a full charge though that could be the milder weather. Anyone else get a call like this.

Also have a 62kw on order for delivery in Sept what are the advantages/disadvantages of the ePedal

  • Registered Users Posts: 352 ✭✭Snugbugrug28

Guy on YouTube says you can use the epedal all the time and avoid ever changing your brake pads

  • Registered Users Posts: 33,589 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

AFAIK the epedal uses a combination of regeneration and the brakes.

It is so strong it couldn't simply be the regen stopping the car.

I decided to just embrace the ePedal and try it from day one. I've gotten very used to it now and really like it. So much so that I have to remember to use the brake a lot more if I'm driving my Wife's car! :)

I use the epedal almost 100% of the time ... probably just lazy driving. Only time when it is a bit of a pain in the ass is when trying to parallel park or get in to a tight space

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 19,021 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

That's a known issue with that era Leaf, the cars BMS was misreading and understating the battery capacity and therefore the car was displaying less range and its possible it dropped a battery bar if around certain percentages. Your actual range is unaffected but the cars reporting of it is more accurate

Many thanks Interesting they got this done when it’s being traded in in a few months

Came out to a software update in my MY21 62kWh Leaf. SW 283C30861E.

Seems to be not picking up the fact I rebooted though and looks like it's on the old version still.

Edit: Left the car off for 5 mins and it's gone through ok.

Got called yesterday by the local Nissan dealer with grim news; the UK plant are after just cancelling many recent orders on foot of the semiconductor shortage, so no doubt he was having a rough day with upset customers. Luckily though he said, my SVE hasn't been axed so is still set to be completed in June, for delivery by the end of July, but was warned that still could change. Probably best holding off on getting a home charger installed until it's physically delivered. Anyone else get a similar call?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,647 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

I'm currently doing some work in the states, so my Irish number is unreachable. I ordered my SVE end of March with expected delivery in July. I got the last of the 0% finance deals before they closed the door.

Are they sending emails? When did you order yours?

Just remember you cannot avail of the €600 grant if you get the home charge point installed prior to Grant Approval....maybe this does not apply to you but worth mentioning...Hopefully you get your car come July

Had an appointment with the Nissan dealer in mid-March; came back again the following day after test driving a 2018 model and then placed the order for the SV Premium, but decided to upgrade it to the SVE since a family member who specialises in vehicle component manufacturing, pointed out a few things which were worth the extra cost of the upgrade. Like yourself I also availed of the 0% as it was March; I believe it ended in May?

The Sales Manager emailed me a letter to confirm what was said in the call from the other day; he volunteered to do so, just to reassure me and have it in writing as he put it. But when I saw it, it seemed much more of a template that you'd generate off of a typical Case Management System; not headed, dated nor signed and a lot of the grammar was faulty. More a robotic narrative of the component shortages, along with an option to commit or voluntarily cancel - a full deposit refund if the order was cancelled by the manufacturer IIRC. But it did say my vehicle was still set for build in June and that if all goes to plan, it'd be end-July delivery.

Thanks for the info. So, if my order is safe, I'm looking at end of July too. The 0% ended in March. I took a job offer in March with a car allowance and ordered my car the last weekend of March. One of the guys on here wanted to place an order in April, but the deal was over.

Yeah, the 0% was what encouraged me originally and was warned by the dealer that it was finishing in April, so had to make the decision! Perhaps you could chase up with your dealer about where your order is standing?

Whether or not it's the wisest choice as my first car (20's and living at home) I just couldn't bring myself to fork out what most places were demanding for a used Golf or equivalent, especially on those with high-mileage; it seemed almost more sense to buy new, and EV with the way running costs have gone. However I'm planning to apply for a mortgage in a year, so this commitment to the Leaf could well hold me back, being on PCP. Anyhow that's another discussion!

Will you be getting a home charger installed if you haven't already? If so, do you mind me asking what make? I still need to sit down and do the research - I'm no expert in that area and it'll be the first EV in the family, although the brother has a 3-Series PHEV which he regularly plugs in via the socket in the hallway, so a home charger to suit both vehicles would be ideal: @slave1 - also many thanks for your reply above! I could probably survive without a home charger as I'll still be cycling to work most days, and there's an ESB charger next door to my workplace, but I'll probably be sharing the Leaf with the rest of the family so it wouldn't be a bad idea to have it at home also - be able to plan around road trips etc more easily.

I went with the regular 0% finance rather than PCP. The regular finance option means no balloon payments and it can be paid off early at no penalty if that's what was preferred.

I've already got 2 Gen 1 Leafs. The new one is I ordered because I have a commute which is covered by the 24 Leaf, but leaves no room to deviate. Having the extra range will be welcome.

I intend to get a hypervolt charger. You'll need a home charger with a type 2 plug, or an untethered charger. Any new EV takes the type 2 plug AFAIK. My existing charger is a Rolec with type 1 plug which the Gen 1 Leaf needs. Rolec is a dumb charger, but the options at the time were very limited. I think having an outdoor socket alongside the home charger is worthwhile. Handy when charging 2 cars.

someone posted here at some point..... but with this new boards site searching this specific thread doesn't seem to be an option anymore.....

anyways, it was posted that someone had a cargo extender that could be mounted on the rear door(boot). not something that is connected through a towbar/hitch as my car doesn't have one. it looked neat and easy to put on and remove.

    does it jog anyones memory?

I ordered and paid a small deposit on a 62 kw Leaf originally due for delivery early Sept. Not unexpectedly got a call last week saying due to supply issues etc I MAY get the car towards the end of the year but possibly Ian 2023.I'm ok with this as long as the original agreement and price hold. I have sales offer showing the deposit my current car as a trade in and the amount of money to be paid. The dealer seemed very anxious to cancel the sale but I am saying no

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,647 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

When did you place the order?

Maybe we should post here the names/location of dealerships cancelling or reporting delays on Leaf orders. Not to shame, but to give others with pending orders, or yet to be placed orders an idea of the local landscape. Is it possible that some dealers could be cancelling orders in favour of customers who now offer higher margin to dealers?

I heard of a dealer who had all their Leaf Orders cancelled by Nissan saying that Leaf production had halted due to lack of chips until 2023.
