I think people should fly from shannon, cork or knock but saying that i know alot that flew from Belfast with no problems, this is just a lack of staff isn't it at dublin airport, hense why i think the new runway isn't in service yet, and also numbers have to pass 30M a year for terminal 3 to be built, 2019 we got close to that

If only there was some piece they could have to show they could call it a ticket or something

Being stuck on a cruise ship for a day or days is a very pleasant experience, being stuck on a ferry is not… it’s 19 hours from Rosslare to Cherbourg…

rail sail can be an interesting trip but certainly takes it out of you.

A defensive DAA trying to ensure that any payouts are 100% their fault and that the passenger didn’t just forget to set their alarm or never had any intention of flying (and might not otherwise have claimed). Seriously, the number of people who will opportunistically claim when they might not otherwise have had a justification will be tiny in comparison to the hundreds who have a valid case. The substantial effort (and resources) of trawling CCTV seems utterly disproportionate

I was in Dublin airport about 2 weeks ago. It was only about 25-30 mins at around 4am and was quite busy with Ranger's fans flying to Spain.

I think a bigger problem Dublin Airport could have is hiegene. The place is filthy. Toilets are not being cleaned and it looks like the terminals get cleaned once a day. It looks like they only has 2-3 cleaners in the whole of T1 for the time I was there. It must be horrendous working conditions for them.

Health and Safety could have a look at it and issue a warning or two, before a closure notice.

Not lost on anyone is of course members of the Opposition shouting about this.

Had we listened to people like Paul Murphy and the like, the airports would still be closed and we'd be still attempting to achieve zero covid.

Paul Murphy is a gas man. Said Willie Walsh knew nothing about aviation and yet he was a pilot :D

Murphy knows everything about everything and is never off the airwaves. Next week I am sure he will be telling farmers how to manage their herds

I'd head for Paris Thursday afternoon if you can. Wouldn't risk Saturday. It will cost a bit more but certainly ease the stress.

    Good luck.

Thanks. And as somebody who can check in online and will be travelling with only hand luggage, should I be able to just join that queue from when I arrive at the airport? Or are there other queues to navigate first?

The staff missing on Sunday morning must have been out watching the Champions League Final.

See my post on the previous page, it took me one hour twenty mins to get through. It was saying 50 mins on the app at the time. While I had plenty of time to spare the que I was in had grown an awful lot by the time I reached the head of it so had I been twenty mins later I'd have been under pressure.

First they came for the socialists...

    Thanks mate.

I wish I could, Saturday was my only option without staying an extra day / night in Paris

The transport committee will also hear that an “anomaly” led to 17 new recruits being rostered on security detail last Sunday before they were certified, causing travel chaos at Dublin Airport.

    From the Irish Times

Early passengers to be held in holding areas under Dublin Airport plans

I’ve just arrived at T2 for a 18:45 flight. It’s pretty quiet in the airport in general. Security queue estimates 30 minute wait.

Let us kno how you get on - am flying friday at 6.15pm from T 2. Thanks.

Just through security now, so just short of an hour. Just a few security gates were operating. I’d imagine it’ll be a lot worse on a busy Friday.

Yeah, it’s not good. It’s entirely down to staffing levels. There’s just not enough security gates open.

It was the same for me on a Weds afternoon a few weeks ago, took an hour to get through. The estimate on the screens was 35 minutes. Three lanes were open but two of them were working at a snail's pace.

They should have one person who wouldn't need much training telling the que about having the bags ready. The same person could be asking passengers if the flight they are queuing for is leaving soon, that way they can move them up the que after seeing the boarding pass.

    Headline says it all!

Appearing before the Oireachtas Committee on Transport and Communications, Dalton Philips said that the rate of passenger increases from March of this year "took off" at a level they were "not expecting".

I would imagine the big issue with triaging the crowds as they arrive is where do they go if refused entry because of early arrival. It will take a complicated system for the refusals to be coralled into different lines depending on how early they are.So you have a line at the door that may or may not be allowed entry and you have as many as 3 different lines that are to be integrated into the line at the door as time moves on.

I suspect you will queue for an hour during quiet times as they will be holding back staff for known busy times esp during the morning rush

He also was fast tracked checked in for Saudi Arabia for his flight no long wait only an hour in total

€295 Euro to jump the queues. Sounds like a bargain. Solid promotional work by Rick Dalton.

They dismissed the suggestion that other airports could be usedto ease the pressure! Said something along the lines of it would be difficult to administer!

    Grand as is so?

  • Registered Users Posts: 78 ✭✭paul321123

Gates normally close 30mins before the flight takes off so going by that do you turn up 3hrs before a short hall flight,

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,593 ✭✭✭theteal

Was that that Dalton guy just on the news? Whoever it was didn't really give a crap and his whole demeanour does not inspire confidence

Wages are one thing, but again there is only so much a job is worth. Ireland has become such an expensive country to live in we have effectively forced people out of the very industries we need. People can no longer afford to stay in jobs where there is no real salary progression.

Terms are also an issue, I believe there has been problems with staff getting hours (no guarantee of full time hours), shifts being changed last minute.

Realistically who is going to take a job with low pay, unsocial hours, no fixed hour contract?. Its an employees market now and people are better off working elsewhere.
