Taking the 228,015 prizes, I worked out that €11,346,150 went to €50 prizes. That is 73.0777% of the total money paid out. Applying that to the 0.35% notional interest rate we get 0.255772. So every €100K in bonds would earn €255.77 in simple interest, if the product was just big prizes and interest instead of €50 prizes. That could suit some people who are not getting average luck. This is subject to confirmation when the Annual Report is published.

I did the same on Page 250 for the 2020 figures when the notional rate was 0.5% and the expected return on €100K with average luck was 7 x €50 prizes. That was 72.56% of the prize money going to €50 prizes, a return of €362 on €100K.

Nothing for me today but I did get €50 on 20 May from a win in 2015 which I reinvested.

The €50K went to Louth from PF bonds which I often note being winners, bought in 2011. They also got €50 today.

May count, this time the same 16 million bonds AZP to BAE in each of the four draws.

    Friday 06

83 prizes, average per million 5.188, highest BAC 9, lowest AZS 2

    Friday 13

    85, 5.313, BAB 10, AZT 1.

    Friday 20

    77, 4.813, BAC 11, AZS and AZX 1 each.

    Friday 27

    104, 6.500, AZX 10, AZY 3.

Highest overall AZU and BAC 28 each, lowest AZS 13

64 million bonds won 349 prizes, average per million 5.453. x 52 x €50 equals €14,178.13. Divided by 62.5 to get what €100K would win in a year with the same luck equals €226.85. Nearest to 5 x €50.

Nothing in may on €170k-5x€50 in 2022

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,951 ✭✭✭John arse

Yeah unfortunately with the current rate your 10k would only (ON AVERAGE) be due a win once every two years sadly, good luck for the future 👍

I'm really losing interest in my bonds, in nearly two years I've won nothing.

It may have been asked before but is there any benefit of buying bonds in smaller lots? Let's say if you were to buy €1,000 worth. Is there any advantage of purchasing it all at once at €1k, or split it up into 40 purchases of €25? Not saying that's what I'll do, but just using it as an example.

I thought I recalled that it's better so that you can withdraw any domination you want (say €500) and avoid taking out the full €1k if you do it in smaller lots. Is that true?

After three months you can take as much or as little as you like out - no issue.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,216 ✭✭✭VonLuck

Great, thanks. I thought you could only withdraw in the denomination you purchased it!

I just had a look through my tracker and my recent winning record is not good!

My holding has gone up/down slightly in that time but averages out at €65k.

So in the last 75 weeks since Christmas 2020, on €65k I've had €1x50 win.

I may be working off old calculations, but I believe average luck would have given me over just 4 wins in that period.

Anyway the money will stay there for another while until I need it, hopefully my luck will pick up a bit though.

Approximately a month. You can see the monthly sales in the Annual Reports. Page 21 of the 2020 report.

Wowsers! Does more prize bonds being bought mean we're less likely to win?

2020 was a record year due to Covid. More sales, more prizes, the number of €50 prizes is recalculated at the start of each month. Same chance of winning.

The post office are investing your money at significantly better returns than anyone has posted here. If you consider inflation your money is not making any money return unless you have a big win. Find an investment fund that will give you stable returns that will at least beat inflation rates. Inflation is about 8-10% this year alone. Your money is not working for you in Prize Bonds - I have €200 in prize bonds. You can live in hope of winning the jackpot or make some real returns on your money properly invested. Talk to any financial advisor.
